Unfortunately it is actually common for people with service dogs to be robbed while they are experiencing a medical episode. So alot of service dog handlers didnt find it very funny to joke about something that does happen when we’re at our most vulnerable. And this world sucks. FYI regarding the service dog thing, some service dogs have been trained in that as a task but it's largely frowned upon in the community...specifically for this reason. Finding a stranger is basically handing someone a free, well trained, $20,000 dog. There is the more ethical and safe task of finding a specific person you were shopping with, although this is also considered a fairly risky task - but far less dangerous. This was a huge controversy in the service dog community. The task sounds like a good idea in a fantasy world but, even on paper it's fairly...stupid. Like, sure, in an emergency maybe the dog will find someone who will help, but the reality is, if someone doesn't steal the far more valuable dog, they could rob or hurt you.
Yeah so would it make more sense for the dog to stay where the person is and just bark really loud to bring attention to the person being down or something?

With the email thing. Like, you could easily have solved the problem by just going to her directly and going "Hey! Sorry i didnt reply. FYI regarding the service dog thing, some service dogs have been trained in that as a task but it's largely frowned upon in the community...specifically for this reason. Finding a stranger is basically handing someone a free, well trained, $20,000 dog. There is the more ethical and safe task of finding a specific person you were shopping with, although this is also considered a fairly risky task - but far less dangerous.
This was a huge controversy in the service dog community. The task sounds like a good idea in a fantasy world but, even on paper it's fairly...stupid. Like, sure, in an emergency maybe the dog will find someone who will help, but the reality is, if someone doesn't steal the far more valuable dog, they could rob or hurt you.
