Mississippi River Expedition with Clay and Brent

- Clay Newcomb and Brent Reaves embark on an iconic expedition down the Mississippi River. Their journey begins with a 250 mile boat ride with their custom SeaArk boat, Laura, down the very the same waters explored by foundational players of American history such as Crockett, Collier, and Mark Twain. After two days, 250 miles, and downright soggy weather, Clay and Brent dry off and get down to hunting business. In the morning, the boys join friend, Lake Pickle, for a flooded timber duck hunt. With weather less favorable for waterfowl, they switch their aim to whitetails which turns much more prosperous. Ducks, deer, hogs, and bucket list adventure all checked off the list. The beginning of last year I heard Mr Brent Reaves talking about some of his law enforcement past on a podcast. We exchanged a few messages and I had shared with him that the officer who arrested me years back probably didn't know it but he changed my life that day. I shared how that arrest lead to me getting clean from a horrible drug addiction, and that later that year I would be celebrating 5 years clean. Months later on June 9th I woke up and found a video message from Mr Reaves congratulating me on my 5 year mark, and offering some kind, encouraging words. I'm a total stranger to him. The fact that he would mark that day on his calendar and reach out meant a lot. And also says a lot about his character. I believe these are truly good folks, and I look forward to every podcast, video, and book they create. Maybe someday I'll get an opportunity to introduce myself, and shake his hand.
Incredible guy.
This is quickly becoming my favorite duo to watch
Uncle Brent, Hello from FL. I'm so happy to see you on the small screen. I love your Podcast and can't wait for the new episode every week. Keep sharing your love for the outdoors, some of us have fallen in love with it thanks to your teachings.
It’s nice to watch humble good people doing outdoor stuff!
Should do more videos like this. It was really fun to watch!
I have to say , the way clay narrates these is top notch! Becoming my favorite to watch
Clay has become a MeatEater favorite!! Always dropping fascinating knowledge and doing awesome hunts, fishing trips and adventures! Brent is great too, this is a really great adventure and episode!
My all time favorites!! Brent & Clay!!!!
Really? 😂
@@IAmAMeateateryep. Brent and Clay seem like genuinely good guys, with good senses of humor and likable personalities. Janis fits into that same category. They are the best MeatEater has to offer.
@@SammyMoore-tg5gs hard agree. Janis, Element boys, Brent & Clay really make this channel worth following
I am **so** impressed with that shot Brent took. Holy Moly the freakin tree swayin like that and ever'thang! NICE job sir. And congrats to Clay on some wonderful freezer-fillers!
Two of the best guys ever in the hunting media industry!!
What a shot on that buck, that footage is amazing. The trees swinging all over the place in the wind, I was thinking there is no way I would be able to squeeze a shot through that. WAY TO GO!
Love that enclosed canopy on the jon boat.
A once and a live time float. Gods Grace to your objective and family!
love the Brent and Clay combo!!
Lake Pickle is a perfect name for a guest on this series
That was fun to watch - always enjoy Brent and Clay's expeditions together!
easily one of the best duos on Meateater (The Element boys are also up there) you can really tell how good of friends they are
Hell of an episode guys always a pleasure to watch!!! Just wanted to say as a person in the Coast Guard that has worked the Arkansas River and the Mississippi River, we are the ones who do all the AIDS to Navigation on the river!!! Just wanted to throw that out there guys!! Can’t wait for the next episode.
You 2 clowns are awesome! Thanks for sharing history and lore of the muddy miss. I am attempting to get an archery buck in all the Iowa counties along the river. Got 4/10 tags filled so there's altleast 6 more years of adventures to go before conquering the challenge
Doesn't get any better! Cheers fellas.
More adventure stories like this please!
Clay man I really enjoy your adventures. Definitely my favorite outdoor show. Man I need to go hunting lol.
Man you packed 8 days into 34 minutes, I wanted it to be longer. You guys are great. Keep it up.
The best duo on TH-cam
Heck yeah. The turkey calling king chasing some other animals
Should’ve been Jani vs Tony
I came to read the comments of whether other people liked clay as much as I was starting like him, he's just a solid funny character, more videos of him
Brent’s a cool dude! Him a Clay are a good watch together 👌🏼
Such a great adventure! Really enjoy Clay and Brent hunting together. More, please. Huge respect to both of you!
Love it,,Lake Pickel is/was with Premo's outdoors great camera man
Boy that was fun! So glad for both of you. I am not a hunter. but everyone associated with "MeatEater" are class acts.
Love watching you guys, I rode up and down that river for many years on those red top boats you had in the video, now i just work on them.
Awesome experience, thanks for sharing it with us and keep them coming please.
I feel like I’m watching an episode of Bear Grease and it’s awesome!🐻🇺🇸
Lol that sidebar gaze at the camera when clay was talking about that sandbar
I don’t blame you clay for wanting to just go down the river. Sure you could have driven to where u where hunting in 4-5hours but instead you to 2 days and now have a beautiful memory for life. We rush to much of our lives now and don’t make enough memories.
My phone must’ve been broke when Clay called to invite me on that bad ass adventure. That was awesome boys good work!
Take a shot every time clay says Mississippi River
Father of rivers*
I tried rhat andnd jdjsi cany sklell
Heads up for the ones reading this before watching the vid… within the first 3 mins the word ‘Mississippi’ is mentioned 9 times 🤣 good luck
Ok. I've always wanted to die from alcohol poisoning
Did it. Am dead now. 😂😂😂
Meateater and Primos crew working together!
Awesome idea and footage! Now it’s time for Clay to come down to Louisiana to catch some reds, trout, shrimp and crabs while eating crawfish and some fried catfish. Absolutely the best exploring/hunting content on the web. Keep it up Clay, and if you ever need a “tour guide” for south La hit me up
Damn Clay likes Half & Half with coffee lol!!
lol nah… he likes a little coffee with his half & half.
Great video Clay and Meateater crew! Always putting out bangers !
I wanna see a collaboration with outdoor boys in Alaska PLEASEEEE!!
Great segment.
Excellent!. Best episode yet!
Great episode!
Have to say that it’s great to see someone on TH-cam, shoot a button buck and say they’ll probably make the same mistake again. I only started hunting when I was in my 30s and my first deer was a button buck. Felt real torn up about it at the time, but now just see it as part of the learning experience.
Clay what a great video man. Love to see y'all's hard work pay off. Keep it up guys. God bless
Loved it
What a great adventure!
Just watched this. Let you know, after listeningto Bear Grease, I thought Brent would have a dark brown beard. 😂 I got a good dove story or a couple deer stories from my step-dad if you want me to write. Love all your stories, from both of you.
Another great episode! Take me to your journey Steve I always wanted to experience your hunting ways! All love from Philippines! ❤❤
Coming from MN near the Mississippi river.
Use a one or two ounce slip weight depending on the current from shore with a shiner or fathead
minnow and a circle or hybrid j hook . Loop a rubber band on the handle of your fishing pole below the reel, open your bail, loosely tuck the line under the rubber band and set the pole up on Y stick. Crack a six pack and watch the tip of the rod. Recast after 45 minutes.. ish
Nothing like hunting that cold morning as soon as it gets done raining. add the rut. game time
another piece of outstanding content from the maeteater family
Epic!!!
Sweet episode!
Brent's look at Clay at 10:24 is priceless
My favorite fellas on TH-cam. Arkansas makes some damn good men brother. 😉
Awesome content!
"Don't touch my horn" 😂
I’m commenting at the point where they are camping out, and I’m very envious. What a fun adventure!
👍🐿👍awesome adventure.
Great video
Brent looking at the camera after Clay told him they would have been pushing the boat if they followed his plan.. 😂
I really enjoy clay and Brent
Great video.
Can we talk about how impressive Brent's shot is from a moving tree with a rifle?
Let's go!
“That’s good, can you do a duck?” 😂😂😂
10:27 Brent’s look LOL!!!!!!
Went duck hunting for the first time on that river this year, would have been sweet to run into them!
Keep living the dream and keep them cameras on
“Well, you aren’t Daniel Boone, sir.” LOL
Theeee best
Name a more iconic duo.
I don’t know why but I was a lil shocked Brent shoots a bow. He just seems so practical I thought he’d be a rifle only guy. Anyways…
Good work boys!
The Primos boys took care of Meateater. Good to see.
For sure.
I just had the sudden urge to buy 15 jet boils
You guys should head up to Northen MN at the Mississippi rivers headwaters where you can step across it
Tip of the hat running “The River” from Memphis to Mayersville.
Dude loves the Mississippi River
I love your guy’s videos. I don’t understand how you don’t have 3mil subscribers. I’m set comfy in my work van relaxing before a job, don’t envy them sitting in a tree stand.
I just ripped a real long hard rumbler… felt like someone slowly dragged a piece of barb wire between my cheeks.
always makes my day when these 2 are out doing fun stuff👍👍👍
Red right returning is a good way to figure out bouys
Such a great episode! Now I have to find out how part of the Mississippi is over 400 feet below sea level
I think he said the riverbed was 400 feet below sea level - that is obviously quite different to the surface of the river, which wouldn’t really work!
That makes more sense! I was trying to imagine how that would work, haha! I looked it up and they are actually working to install underwater dams that will help stop salt water from flowing upstream below the fresh water, in order to preserve the ecosystem
Man you came to Memphis?!?!?
Well, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles and they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em, on down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico!!!
Must be an Arkansas thing, but what you call "inside" the levee, we have always called "outside" the levee. Inside of the levee is the portion of land that is protected by the levee, and outside the levee is the land that floods. If you were talking to somebody and they said "man they are really killing the ducks outside the levee", that meant they were hunting on the river side of the levee.
Awesome episode, I loved it.
I wish you guys would tell us about your rifle, bow and shotgun set ups
The alegash mountains are from Maine the adriondaks are from Ny
That might have been the best meat eater episode of all time.
Brent with the SXS shotgun!
Anyone know if they're First Lite is planning on releasing that camo pattern they have on their jackets/pants? Kind of looks like the mossy oak bottomland stuff
Yes, it’s called Cache. It’s for sale now.
Anyone know what kind of step aider Clay has on his climbing sticks?
Rinella Putelis or Newcomb Reaves??? Talk about a tough vote!
Clay, you should have started off at the Head Waters of the Mississippi River in Ojibway Country, in Minnesota.
😍
I wanna see a ft with luke from the outdoor boys plz!!!!! In alaska!!!
Whats the name of the grunt call you are using?
Phelps Akern Grunt/Bleat
Did clay ever say what river they were on?
