  • Head out on this 11.1-km out-and-back trail near Lake Louise, Alberta. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 4 h 44 min to complete. This is a very popular area for birding, hiking, and running, so you'll likely encounter other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are June through October. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash.
The Sentinel Pass via Larch Valley Trail is a beautiful, but difficult trail. Bringing a good pair of hiking shoes and hiking poles is recommended.
Moraine Lake Road and the parking lot are closed to personal vehicles. To reach the trailhead the park provides a shuttle service from Banff or Lake Louise which must be booked in advance. Alternatively, you can reach the trailhead by cycling or walking. Follow this link for more information or to reserve your shuttle:
The trail begins along the flat lakeshore path, then branches to the right and climbs for 2.4 kilometres, along steep, long switchbacks through the stunning forest. At the junction, the trail continues to the right, with Eiffel Lake being to the left. Once past this area, there is a gradual but steady (and less steep) climb through Larch Forest. The trail opens up once it passes the tree line, which allows for panoramic views of the ten mountain peaks. Packing an extra layer of clothing is recommended, as it can get quite cold at the top.
During the winter months, this trail is exposed to avalanche hazard, so visiting is not recommended between mid-October and mid-June.
Romans 1:20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.
