    My zebra plant, along with two small barrel cactus, have survived semi freezing temps in a bush cabin! And brilliant super hot woodland summer sunlight! All 3 doin fine!

    Hi, I have this plant too. My plant flowered a while ago and and after flowering, a baby plant grew along the stalk. I don’t see any roots under the baby plant and I am worried the baby plant will die if I cut it off from the mother plant. Any advice?

    • @growingtolive2383

      peri My best advice for now would be to let the plants be together for a while and don’t try to separate them. This will allow better root development for the younger one. Sometimes “pips” or baby plants will still absorb nutrients from the mother plant.

      @@ahmadrabbi2275 they do well in partial and full natural light. Water them until it comes out of the bottom of the pot and then dump any extra out of the drip tray if it’s on one. They don’t like wet feet. Then, let the soil dry out completely before watering again. Don’t get the leaves wet. Use cactus soil and not regular potting soil. Keep them between between 60 and 85 degrees.

    Bright direct light for at least 6 hours a day?
    After two days of direct sunlight my Haworthia was heavily sunburnt showing red leaves.
    Never going to do the same mistake again. Bright dispersed light - OK. But never direct sunlight!

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, looking back at it I think I intended to say bright “indirect” light. Though, I have also grown these in a high-heat greenhouse 80-90 degrees F.

      Thanks for reply.
      Greenhouse is a totally different thing. With high humidity there, most plants can cope with very high temps.
      But one thing is high temperature, and another thing is direct sunlight.
      In a jungle the temperature and humidity are very high but there is little direct sunlight...

    Is it normal for the flowers on the stalk to be wet?

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Feliciano It can depending on several things. Several different plants have moisture trapped within the closed flower and when it opens it’s going to be wet. It also depends on the humidity of where your plant is placed, how much/often you water and if the soil media you use holds on to water longer. But, in general it’s not a bad thing. Succulents and cacti retain a lot of moisture, so if they’re not in a typical desert habitat, the chance is highly likely that they have excess moisture than they need to survive. So, they might get rid of some through flowers or absorb less through the soil.

    I have one too, what type of soil should I plant it in and how often do I water it? mine is an indoor plant by the way

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Diego P. With my indoor succulents, I used a cactus soil mix. I water once every two weeks and they are only in indirect sunlight. What size is the container they’re in?

    • @d.p.2375
      @d.p.2375 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Growing To Live thank you so much! Oh and my succulent is in a medium sized pot, like 11 inches tall and the plant is 4.5 inches tall

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Diego P. Ok, so you’ll still stick with the watering every two weeks. The larger the plant, the larger the roots and the more water needed to maintain it. If you don’t have drainage holes, you’ll want to water even less to prevent mildew and fungus growth.

    Hello my zebra plant is look dry and thin..what should i do about it?hope you can help me..thanks..

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honey Grace Andong Hi, thanks for reaching out! If the leaves are getting thin and wrinkly it’s most likely a sign of being dry for too long or being over watered. Zebra plants like being more dry, but they need a fast draining dry type of soil. Don’t put sand in the mix. You can buy a cactus soil mix and add extra perlite or vermiculite. If it’s drying too quick, it could also be getting too much direct sun or there’s too much wind/air blowing on it. They like “bright” light but not direct sunlight. East or west facing windows or rooms work well. Keep them away from heater and air conditioning vents. Most succulents and cacti don’t need watered more than once a week, depending on plant and container size.
      I’m not sure if that was helpful or not.

    Hi. Cool video! I’m new at growing succulents, so I’ve been watching about 10 videos every day to learn more and I ask lots of questions.
    I heard other people say on their videos that it can handle cold temperatures as long as it’s no colder than 40°F. You have 65° lowest temp listed in your video. And many people said that it needs indirect sunlight because in the wild they grow under rocks, trees and bushes for shade. What are your thoughts on this? I think I heard a dog in the background, do you also have a bird?

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      tmkafer Thanks for your comment! At the time of filming this, I was actually at a family members house. She has a bird and dogs, but the dog featured in this video is mine.
      Succulents can handle colder than 60-65 degrees, but they don’t like it in a regular basis and it can vary depending on variety. Succulents seem very hardy, and most of the time they are, however some are much hardier than others. The Zebra Haworthia in this video has been placed in direct sun for a while and it got sun burn spots all over it. Most succulents prefer indirect sun. If you have them indoors, indirect sun and watering every two weeks usually works perfect. Along with keeping the temperature in the range I mentioned.

      Your dog is adorable. I’ve had birds my entire life and kept hearing a weird noise. I thought it sounded like some birds I’ve either had or been around, like my sisters cockatoo or my cockatiel. ;-)

      Vianca Queen There’s a chance it has been over watered. Feel the soil. If it’s too wet, let it dry before watering again.

    What should I do

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To get it to bloom? It will need ideal conditions. So you’ll want to research the exact soil acidity, the lighting requirements (which mine was primarily in filtered indoor light), the heat requirements (mine was around 70-75 degrees Fahrenheit). When they start reproducing that typically means they are happy and healthy.

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maryjane Leones Let me ask a few question: 1. How often do you water it? 2. How much water do you give it each time? 3. What kind of light is it in/ how long? 4. What is the regular temperature of the area it’s in?

    • @maryjaneleones8690
      @maryjaneleones8690 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I only watered it once a week.
      I do spray when I watered it. The light? I only expose it to the light (the sun doesn’t that strong coz it’s winter) with 3-4 hours (coz i have work, I can’t barely let them expose in the outside might someone stole it) .

    • @growingtolive2383
      @growingtolive2383  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maryjane Leones You don’t have to spray it when you water. Make sure when you water it that the soil is mostly dry. If I remember correctly, they love a lot of light. So leave it in a bright, warm windowsill as long as possible. Don’t let it get colder than 55 degrees Fahrenheit.
