    I used to be sooo skeptical of things like affirmations, but man. Done properly, they really make THE difference in changing your life.

      Same! I had a tutor pushing me to do them when I was kid and I thought it was the dumbest thing. 20 years later, I’ve realised it truly is powerful lol

      sorry, do you have some tips for doing them properly?.?

    • @KayKayBayForever
      @KayKayBayForever 2 ปีที่แล้ว +64

      @@sweetdreams62728 There’s a lot to it, I think, but the main thing is you have to feel it. Just repeating sentences that you don’t have any positive emotions for won’t do anything, imo.
      When I first start with an affirmation for something, I use it almost more for analysis. I notice all my negative feelings around a sentence. Why do I not believe this sentence, and is it REALLY not true or is it just my lack of confidence? How could this sentence actually be true? I feel the feelings of it actually being true, and after a while it gets easier and easier to believe the sentence.
      Then usually I have to do some action based off that to prove to myself that it’s true, and by then I’m golden.

    The problem with "I" affirmations is there's also another part of your mind (the Unconscious) that will say, "No You're Not". Because if you've never believed or done a specific task which requires you have the kind of self-confidence needed to achieve a specific task, your Unconscious will prove you wrong.
    The interesting thing about your mind is it cannot tell the difference between: what you're rehearsing and what you're practicing - it just recognizes patterns and repetition. And if you're investing a lot of time and emotion into what you're constantly repeating, (like self-loathing, self-hate, and etc.) it will give you that. It just recognizes you're rehearsing or practicing something in the moment, and it will gladly try to be helpful and assist with what you obviously want - not necessarily with good timing and that is really helpful to you.
    So what can you do? It's far better to use "You" than "I" because we normally don't refer to ourselves as (You), this also causes your unconscious mind to open itself to accept any new suggestions and new affirmations, while associating them to "You" - which it can't obviously disagree with.
    So rather than "I am self-confident" replace with "You are self-confident".
    "Don't speak negatively about yourself, even as a joke. Your (Unconscious) and even your body doesn't know the difference. Your words can shape your reality. Change the way you speak about yourself and you can learn to control your thoughts as possible as you want. And, what you're not changing, you're choosing; and you're also allowing yourself to believe it's true.

      This is such useful info, thank u! So that’s why there are both “I am” and “You are” affirmation videos on TH-cam. I will choose the “you are” ones then :)

    • @ceeeceee8753
      @ceeeceee8753 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      I agree, I started with “you” statements but now that I’ve developed a bit of confidence that I’ve never had in my life I feel great saying “I” statements now

    • @dstinnettmusic
      @dstinnettmusic ปีที่แล้ว

      Show me scientific evidence that there is such a thing as an “unconsciousness”, or a “consciousness”
      Like, if that works for you, then that is great, but everything you just said is babble. None of it has scientific backing based in research.
      We have a subjective experience of consciousness, but what it is, how it works is a mystery. So to speak of an “unconscious” is meaningless. If consciousness is a thing we don’t understand then it would be its shadow.

    Yes! I was taught directly and indirectly my whole life that self love was bad because we need to be humble, when the truth is that true self love and self compassion gives you the ability to truly excel in every area of life because you are no longer looking, waiting and performing based on other's stamps of approval. You have your own back, and you are there to guide yourself through the tough times and lessons. Self love and compassion has been THE difference maker in my outlook on everything, including a DEEP love and genuine appreciation from others.

One of the things that helped me get up again were the self loving affirmations even when I wasn’t feeling it. It was like speaking to my inner child and soothing her bc no one else was going to do it but me.

    • @imagitext1342

      Yeah. People who are all in on this concept are horrendous. They don't believe they can fail and they look down on you for "giving up" when there just isn't a solution to a problem yet. I'm disabled and no amount of believing I can do everything will change that. It's just not medically possible right now. And humans are super susceptible to confirm bias of wrong beliefs. She's basically brainwashing herself into believing in something that isn't true, and the deeper you go the harder your brain fights to prove what you believe

    The idea of having to be the best enforces, a belief that we are competing with each other and ourselves This mindset can put expectations that are difficult to keep up with and let you down when you don’t live up to it.
    As an alternative, you may look at anything as practice. The more practice you get think about the feelings that come along with it. You usually get better at whatever it is. And the anxiety that you felt from trying something new goes down because that action is no longer new. You may have made some new connections in the process and some new friends. Taking a look at the little things that show your progression over time. shows growth. So it’s not about being the best it’s about seeing that you overcame something that was difficult or seemed difficult at one time. And you don’t have to be perfect. That is true confidence.❤

    Self-Affirmations can be life-changing for most people, if you make a pattern of repeating them to yourself, any time you face a challenge or a task that you're not 100% confident about.
    It should be noted that self-affirmations to build confidence toward success, is NOT the same thing as pride, arrogance, or ego (all of which are excess forms of an exaggerated sense of one's own importance or abilities).
    The distinction is very clear... very black and white.
    Confidence says "I can do it and do it well... I got this!"
    Pride/Ego/Arrogance says "I can do this better than everyone else, I can do it easily, and I can do it without any preparation, research, or practice."

    I was resistant to this, and have always been overcritical of myself. 7 years ago, it finally occurred to me that affirmation (or mirror work, you call it?) is a way to self-hack your own cognitive biases -- specifically things like frequency bias, recency bias.
    Still working on internalizing this, making it reflexive. And for me, it helps and it has to go hand in hand with iterations of doing actual work, achieving small measurable milestones that provide a tangible basis for me to believe in my own further self-affirmation. (otherwise it's just building a castle in the clouds for myself)

    I realllllly struggle with affirmations, I’ve been in the process of trying to believe them when I tell myself without feeling like a fraud and that im full of it 😅 slowly but surely!

    Almost like having faith in yourself. With a little faith you can move mountains.

    Reminds me of Marissa Peers advice "Tell yourself a better lie". The negative self talk isn't necessarily true, so why not talk to yourself positively even if it isn't necessarily true, but you could make it come true.
    Also, about sports it's so true that confidence in sports is key.
