Great tips Alec! I do TH-cam as a side hustle and the small income mainly helps pay for my woodworking tools/supplies. I have a full time corporate job, but when I retire I hope to start selling more of my crafts. It's tough to try to do it all and hold down a 50 hour / week corporate job. I wish I had more of the entrepreneurial spirit that you do. It's great that you have your own business and it's sustaining you. Best wishes to you!
Sorry to folks who commented on the last post of this video! Ended up reposting it! Appreciate the feedback!
I’m taking an independent study class senior year focusing on how I could turn carving into a profession. You have been a huge inspiration for that.
Great idea! Keep it up!
Thanks Alec, this is really useful information.
Fantastic buddy! Another great video!
Thanks Alec, those are some helpful insights 🙂
No problem!
Great info Alec ,,Thank you for sharing your knowledge
Thanks Gene!!
Thankyou. That's great advice. Mine is for pleasure. Yes don't try and teach if it's not comfortable for you. I taught for 30 years. Enjoyed immensely. Once again great information.
Thanks for sharing. Interesting stuff. I have a couple of questions. 1. What are your prices for art? Lessons? For example, how much for the tall thin piece you showed? 2. How is it treated? Is it coated or painted? Is it fragile? Would it survive shipping? 3. Do the articles pay well? Is it standard per inch? $250-750? 4. Do you have a website? Just curious. I'm new to carving, but love it. I also enjoy your chats with Linker (he's been my hero as a beginner) and how I learned about and subscribed to you. Thanks again for sharing. Can't wait to get your book.
Thanks, Alec! How do you sign your carvings?
Well summarized. Thanks for taking the time to prepare that information. To clarify, TH-cam videos are not content for your teaching videos but are public outreach?
Right, TH-cam videos are a way for me to grow an audience, teach them about carving, and spread the word about my online carving school.
As far as tools go, where is a better place to buy them ?
I hit a lot of mine through Woodcraft. They are really getting high now.
Is Amazon a okay place to get them?
Hey Alec, this is Christine Hill. Thank you for sharing. I have 2 questions for you, 1 is, how do you do your taxes at the end of the year. Do you receive a 1099 from youtube etc.? 2 is, can you tell me what kind of wood is the white barked wood that you ate using, where you get and do you get already dry. Thank you
Would you be able to carve a Santa?
Thanks Alec I sold my first piece to a friend. I didn't think it was worth that much but she was willing to pay anything. So don't put your work on a second grade level let them be the judge
Congrats Greg!!
I really hate the art fairs. It’s just a pain. A lot of time spent and too many people.
