Saw this video at the beginning of the pandemic and then I saw your Asmodius sculpture. This pendant is so simple and is a beautiful representation of your skill and dedication. It is awesome to see you scale up your work and overcome your camera shyness. Thank you.
Yes, I certainly did enjoy watching and thanks for showing the important parts so we get an idea of what techniques you use! Your finished piece is fantastic!
Lol this zip-lock-bag idea is great! Until now i will never again have to jiggle around with lots of glasses and tins in all forms and sizes! The pendant is super cool!!
One tip. If you are using movie maker, in the top right corner under captions, a free upgraded copy of movie maker will have an option to outline size and outline the color of your text. A medium outline in black will greatly improve your text and make it easier to read. Very nice pennant. I enjoyed your video and the quality of your craftsmanship earned you a sub. God bless you and yours.
Hey man! thank you for the comment. I am trying to find a better program for my editing and i can see that the text is hard to read :) now i got another way to improve my videos and that is great! thanks
if you have a mac, imovie is quite simple and easy to learn, if not, VideoPad is quite good and has a lot of options, even though its a very light app..
I plan to order one of these in blue for my daughter. She has loved wolves since she was a toddler. She is a teen now and still plans to work with wolves as a career. She collects a lot of wild stuff and plays online wolf games etc.. she's and I also have a deep love for art. this is definitely on my list as a gift for her. Amazing work.
The part where you say you are camera shy and then jump out of the way of the camera actually made me laugh out loud! I just recently graduated from a fine woodworking course called Studio woodworking at the Okanagan College in British Columbia, Canada. One thing I have learnt about us woodworkers, is we are pretty shy/keep to our selves, outgoing at times, but like the freedom to do our own things. Keep up the good work!
I love the quality of it all. The time it took to form the shape, the choice of wood, even the chain looks much stronger than any chain you get at a store.
Wow, just wow. I was holding my breath, on the tiny parts, lol. I am just a beginner, I started working on wood that I use to find on a walk. One day I picked up a piece, and that was it ! It has been 3 years since that day. Watching you at work, I just hope I can make something close to this. And I am nuts about wolf, I am not scared of them ether, lol. Anyway thank you for a great video, no worries about being camera shy. I have social anxiety. There is something so special to me , when I bring a piece of root, and I just clean the parts eaten by bugs, and amazing shapes come to life. All the best !
Jon if you really want to bring out the pop in the burl you should try practicing with dyes a bit. I always taught that You wipe on a dye and then a quick washcoat of shellac followed up with the stain of your choice is the best way to go so you can really bring out the color in really figured woods. Shellac is really good as a sealer if you know how to thin it out. Stains are used to pop the grain and Dyes are used to accentuate the actual color of the wood.
@@Jonasolsenwoodcraft great work there, some more tips, i have worked alot with burls and i find that you go even higer on the gritt with some 800 or even 1200 you pop out the textures and formations even better. when i soak my knifes in linseed oil i heat up the oil to about 60-80 degree centigrade and let the peace sit there for about 12h, then you can acomplice a see true effect on the wood. it looks like a glass pieace. that mabe not what you whant for all wood to turn out but it really pop ut on some work. great work and fun to see skilled persons work with wounderful wood cheers from Sweden
Jonas this another stylish piece, not too much detail,l to make you see the foxes mask, and what makes it so nice is the stain and Danish oil which I feel brings out the beauty of the different grains in the wood, and gives the impression of the foxes fur. Well done you picked a good piece of Burl. Thanks for sharing your gift with us, regards from John in England.
I am always mesmerized with your level of detail. definitely want that you make a knife with some beautiful carving on that and some animals or dragon face at the handle. I think you are capable of making that my friend.hoping to see that build on your cannel soon.

Ok, I started watching this video out of a passing interest (I've only just started woodworking myself), but after finishing it... Wow. That was truly a privilege to watch. That pendant is a work of art fit for an Úlfheðinn or Odin himself! You, sir, have yourself a new subscriber and fan!

I like that you are camera shy. It's nice to see the process in detail and you do this beautifully. I like the style of your video very much: close up, no music; it makes it more of a meditative process and is soothing and calming -- thank you! I am concerned about the amount of dust in your workshop, though; surely it can't be good for you, and doesn't it impede your work? You have made a beautiful little wolf there, I like that very much as well. I'm off to your website to see how much they are and look at what else you make :-). I.just found your channel and I am amazed by your great work! I am going to attempt to make the wolf pendant today , would you please tell me the size of the picture you used for carving the pendant?
Personally i think you should go for whatever you feel like trying to carve. Your questions makes it seem like you are afraid of failure, as most humans are, including me! My best advice would be to just set a timer. Try to carve for half an hour and dont think too much about the result. Then do this multiple days and if it feels correct, increase the time. Also take breaks if frustration builds up and go do something entirely different for 5-10 minutes. And this is very important: Not all types of wood are suitable for carving, In fact many types pretty much can not be carved because of its hardness or sapp content. So if you choose the wrong type it will be very damaging to your motivation. You should do a quick google search for which wood is most suitable for wood carving. In this video i am using birch burl wood. It is not unsuitable, but not the best either i would say. That is why i often stick to a certain level of detailing in my work. If it is possible for you, i would try to get a few different types of wood and just try them out to see what is best. But back to your original question. The design in this video is ok to start with, but it is symmetrical and that always increases the difficulty. Lots of good luck to you!
Hello, I plan to make a video about learning wood carving, and I would like to replicate your fox model to learn the basics. Would it be okay if I show it in the video? I won't show it step by step, just some frames of me carving it and the the end result to sum up what I learned during the process. I would of course say it in the video that it's your model and I'll credit your channel in the description. Please tell me what you think! 😊
Anyone are free to copy my designs as long as they dont do it to sell the final product. I wish you good luck and i am grateful that you want to make a video like this!

Hey and thank you! Wish you all the best with your hobby. My biggest advice would be to fail a lot and have fun doing it. This advice is one i do not always find that easy to follow myself.
This is such a beautiful piece. I love the video progression, very informative, straightforward, and a little humor that is much appreciated. I learned a couple little things that make things easier. That scroll saw is a beauty! One day I too will hold Excalibur. Thank you for posting, I look forward to the rest of your videos.
I really enjoyed this video, it was perfect, informative, easy to learn from, excellent. I hope you are back to making and creating videos about your art soon!
It's absolutely beautiful. I used to watch my ex carving wooden items. I loved every minute of it. He's an amazing craftsman too. Lovely work 😀

Yeah, but to be honest i think i will stop using that technique cause danish oil is so expensive and i use a lot more oil that way
Jonasolsenwoodcraft What about reusing the Rest? I collect my leftover boiled linseed oil
Great vid and piece of work.
I particularly appreciate how well the veins of the wood have taken place especially on the muzzle

Fantastic work. I would highly recommend investing in dust extraction or making a small extraction booth to work in. Thank you so much! i do use protection against the dust, but it would probably be smart of me to clean the workshop a bit
I myself also does hand crafted to certain materials from wood to foams lots of work but as to your tools i do needed as. Much great work i love it
Would've been so cool if you made the eyes out of blue resin

Then hollow it so a light can be put inside

It is mesmerizing to see your art of detailing sir!!!
Personally do you think this would be a good first carving, I just got into power carving and need something to get my confidence up.
That is amazing!!! Wolves are my favorite animals. I wish I could do that.
Wow. Beautiful. I'd buy it in a second. :)
It made me so anxious to see your fingers so close to that little saw!!! Really enjoyed seeing the process though!
Scroll saws are pretty safe. You have to push hard into the blade to really cut yourself.
And because I love wolf's 🐺
Thank you so much :D
Mate all your movies are just amazing like for all video's. can't wait to watch next movie
First time I ever used a 1/4 sanding drum the bloody thing shed on me, blew off and upwards shooting the tiny little screw across the workshop.
In addition, that birch burl wood is exquisite!

Great talent. I just started to pick carving as a hobby. Your work inspires me. Wish you had tutorials for total beginners.
