STO is not a bad game, but its one that needs a true Next-Gen update to reflect current canon and gameplay habits. I've always said we needed more bridge/onboard ship gameplay while on missions and the ability to send away teams to handle issues without having to get involved. Sadly since Dekka took over maintenance on the title from Cryptic, I don't expect that to happen..
Ground gets easier the more you get into it and learn how it works. Regardless of what level you are do the daily events! The rewards are worth it if you stick with it.
sto player here, basically with some changes to sto. deca's doing more event's and combined the year campaign rewards. so youll have a chance to earn a t6 token to buy t6 ships with, 1 lockbox t6 token to choose a lockbox ship and lobi. most event's will also include of getting a free t6 ship. while yes it needs some revamps but sto is a pretty fun game and you can get tons of free stuff without spending any money.
They had the 'Q' christmas event on while I was playing with the chance for a T6 Ship. You for sure can get alot of stuff for free, and there is a ton of ships available.
8:42 Ground combat is way better using the free camera mode. You press "B" by default and you now have a gameplay that resembles a FPS. It's more fluid, and you can target enemies with skills by simply aiming at them, it's how I've been playing the game for the past 7-8 years and so much better than the "Tab Targeting" of the RPG mode.
10:17 On normal difficulty this is true but on Advanced and Elite if you keep dying, both on ground and space combat, you start to gain penalties to various stats and they stack to the point if you keep dying and don't remove them your performance will be so bad that you can't simply do anything meaningful to defeat your targets. The game is not really hard, most of the "hard" content is basically a gear check but you need to be aware that you can't simply keep dying on the other difficulties and power through it.
This is a horrible take. Yes the game is aged. Honestly the majority of MMOs are. The ground play is aged but can be fun once you upgrade your toon and get better. The space combat (which is the majority of the game) is incredible. The customization for your ship is top tier and they give away free ships all the time. It's free to play so don't expect a AAA game. There's TONS of fun to be had
I've been with the game, almost from it's inception. I have taken breaks from it here and there, but I always come back after a while. I would love to see a new version of the game but that is very unlikely. The game was recently bought from Cryptic, and maintenance has been taken over by Dekka, known for maintaining old games and little else. I seriously doubt they'll be making an STO 2, unfortunately.
most of the story quests are single instance, but you see alot of players in public areas like space stations and flying around in space. There are a few places where people play together, but I didn't have much luck finding people to play with.
Do you think their should be a star trek online 2. Using the last 15 years of Star Trek Online as a proof of concept and a test bed for making a Star Trek mmo ??
The story is worth the time BUT the latest parts of it have become worse and worse. Not sure if it's because of cost cuttings or other reasons but the story and dialogues are getting worse.
This game is a paradox. It's pay-win as it gets but also gives a ton of free stuff and in-game items that will be truly useful even in the end game and many free items and event ones are meta. I've been playing for 13 years and so far with all the highs and lows, the game is nice if you want something different from the usual fantasy MMO RPGs and don't want to play Spread Sheet online(I'm looking at you EVE) while playing a sci-fi game.
Been thinking about picking this up for my xbox s. I play in my easy chair so i dont like using mouse and keyboard because i dont have a desk. Is it possible to play without m&k?
@@CasualConsoleGamerYT So not even a T6. If you can find a f2p sci fi mmo with both space and ground combat I'll remove the downvote. Don't even try to say swtor.
To be fair it’s the ground combat that is shitty. The space combat is actually unique and interesting. Albeit with an incredibly high and poorly documented learning curve to understand how everything in your ship build interacts and comes together. Most people play it almost exclusively for the space combat. The ground combat is just to experience the stories. There is one really good element to ground combat though. The full 4 companion landing parties.
I agree, the ship combat isn't terrible. But the ground combat is a big turn off and alot of the early game that new players are exposed to is ground based.
I was bad when it came out. It's slightly better but still terrible. They ruined it with the removal of the foundry. The controls are clunky and the game is mainly a money grab
I remember this game used to be fun and finding people to play with in-game was so easy now finding people to play with in game is extremely difficult and most players that you'll meet is extremely toxic and downright abusive I felt like I was in the GTA v lobby listening to players in this game absolutely disgusting This games community has become, I've been trying to find people to play with for days and I'm probably one of the friendliest players imaginable and can't find anybody on the extremely useless discord which nobody ever responds feel like I couldn't pay somebody to respond to me on there for help and sent probably 50 messages in game over the last 3 days and not one of them got a response and they all were like hello I'm new here haven't played in a while can somebody help me and nobody wants to respond. I just gave up This game is officially dead to me cuz they're obviously no one ever plays anymore I guess every ship that I see in orbit is an NPC because it sure as hell don't talk

The Trekkie in me can never resist this game.

I just want a remake of Bridge Commander so badly 😭😭
that was a total bashing of a very good game...sry
Not really a star trek fan but this video popped up and was an enjoyable watch! 👀👏

Having played the title on and off since day 1, it seems to me that it has for the most part become a ‘space barbie’ focused experience…👍🏾

You can buy from supply officers the medicals and mechanical supplys needed to repair on the fly

I agree, as much as I would like to see a sequel. Even if they kept the voice acting and storylines, the gameplay needs a rework.
DECA's doing a bang up job though tbh.
Yes, it is heavy P2W with most of best ships and weapons lock behind paywall.
Game belongs to Gearbox, that should tell you everything.
Great game ❤
I want a mirror universe faction. Start out as Terran human or alliance.
That would be pretty cool, but the ships are just Federation with red stripes.
@ you get a mirror universe tutorial. Long one like the romulan. Plus agonizer phaser.
STO is a fun game. I enjoy it.
It's for sure fun, it just needs a big update or a sequel.
it felt old 10 years ago lol
CCP should by it and incorporate it into EVE Online lol
I feel the opposite. I have no problem with the ground combat, but I cannot stand space combat.
hows the online aspect of it? Do you fight along real players?

@@CasualConsoleGamerYT can those people randomly attack you?
No, I never had it happen and I don't think it's possible.
Do you think their should be a star trek online 2. Using the last 15 years of Star Trek Online as a proof of concept and a test bed for making a Star Trek mmo ??
That would be ideal. The ship combat isn't bad, it's the ground combat that dates the game.
The story is worth the time BUT the latest parts of it have become worse and worse. Not sure if it's because of cost cuttings or other reasons but the story and dialogues are getting worse.

This takes a lot of story beats from Discovery It is my next favorite game next to Swtor of course

It is, people say that flying the ships feels better on console than PC.
You flew around in a Miranda so you're an expert eh? What an obnoxiously bad review and "console gamer" is an oxymoron.
I used the footage from the first part of the game. I had a Miranda, a Nova, an Akira, A Galaxy and a Sovereign.

GROUND TOO EASY
I am a huge startrek fan but every time i try to play this, the incomprehensible ui and shitty combat is terrible.
