caught a few kings on dead bait before but they all took a while each lol . they mostly seem to prefer the oily type of bait. been trying dead bait but only produced shark for me lol plus pickers. those greenbacks r so hard to get i'll give u that....
haha, yeah not easy to catch but so rewarding. I believe dead whole pipers are also a great bait option for them and I previously caught one on a whole salted banana prawn. From my experience Kingfish like pink lures. I'm planning to brine some baits and add some pink food colour. Will be interesting to see how a pink salted pilchard will perform :)
@@DogFish-NZ Yes absolutely. I also previously caught a kingfish with a whole banana prawn from my kayak. Just on a stray line rig. So they eat everything as long as its looks yummy :)

I once caught a baby 53cm kingfish in Australia off the beach when targeting Kahawai! Using the similar method & same bait.

Hey man, haven't done a video on the rigs yet. But I usually just use a one hook dropper or a pulley rig with some size 5-7 circle hooks.
I catch all my kingies in tauranga harbour on dead baits, don't see it often, great vid

Cheers Josh 👍 Yeah mostly I use circle hooks when fishing with bait. I really like the BKK circle hooks size 5 - 7 for bigger fish and bigger baits.

ye boi caught one about 86cm in gb top of the south on a whole peice of yellow eyed mullet in a tiny channel on light gear
