I've always wanted to make an underground beat, even got myself a pickaxe and a helmet, but the miner chants and explosions get a little too much for me so I think I'll stick to making beats aboveground
I think one of Madlib’s greatest innovations is that he never limited himself with what to sample. He genuinely loves music from all over the world, so when he dives into sounds from Brazil, India, and more, it never feels forced. Also, I could be wrong, but it feels like he actually listens to the records instead of just rushing through looking for what to sample.
These videos have helped me analyze my own beats and my favorite producers and I’m now starting to mangle ideas together into some sort of Frankenstein type of beat
It’s true that u don’t gotta feel bad for using minimal chops or even just chopping twice and stretching it to make it a cohesive loop. Sometimes stuff that sounds like a loop is really just two chops. One can be for the beginning of the bar then the other one connects it to the end. Many samples aren’t easy to loop but can be made into loops with minimal chops
India ( My country ) needs to know that bro sampled Legend Dharminder's movie song so greatly 😂... ❤ Love from India... Been so long since I'm following you... You are really a great guru , charan sparsh sir 🙏🏼, thankyou so much
I will be trying to experiment more with the MPC stems to give me additional grounding on the beats I make moving forward! I play instruments on my MPK alongside my sampled audio on my beats too!!! Great video bruh!
I believe the bass wobble Madlib has is just a side product of the timestretching in SP-303/404s. Audacity, which is free and most people have, will also do it - if you up the tempo and keep the pitch. Maybe a bit fiddly for some as you'll have to export and import, but it's probably more like that sound than just using a tremolo plug-in.
Underground is where it's all as far as unique beats these days. 42 Dugg recently had an interview and said beats are on a decline and its hard to pick a good beat... I guess so when they all sound the same 😂
Ive done this ever since i started beat making if i couldnt add bass of my own i would eq the highs to keep the low end and pitch down or enahnce the bass if the sound was dope
Yes this is real beatmaking. I would only introduce layer for half of loop or even less like madlib does. Dilla also did this on donuts. Its such great technique and beat is never boring.
I see a lot of similarities with the style of Russian producer SLIMUS. what's interesting is that he's really far from being "underground" in Russia - he was a member of what's might be the most successful and loved rap bands from 2000s Moscow, CENTR (doesn't sound like much to people not from Russia, but it's a huge deal here) interesting how really similar ideas sparked in heads of both underground legend from LA, and one of the biggest mainstream producers of cold Eastern Europe. also fun how more folky and Russian-native samples SLIMUS likes to use are really similar to the indian music in context of sampling

This is kind of unrelated- but if anyone can advise I’d really appreciate it ) I’m new to beat making. I understand that boom bap beats are usually made on MPC etc. does anyone play their own beats on an electronic drum kit? Would it be possible to assign samples to drum pads and play a boom bap beat live and record that into a DAW and have it sound as good as a beat from MPC/Maschine etc? Could I sample a beat made on MPC and play it live on a kit?
I also been doing music for 15+ years and i think making a beat like that (madlibian/dilla) raw, drunken drumming, grid off and all around raw sound is way harder than making trap beats or any other type of beats.
Any other type? Is pretty ignorant genres outside of hiphop sometimes require a constantly evolving song one beat is like 5 hiphop beats not even comparable
@@lilwoodiewood3457 not to me... very few producers can pull that 90s sound now days maxbe madlib alchemist conductor williams and few others. Trap beats are very easy tobme because i also produce techno and house. Why is trap har to mix? You literally have drums 808 and synth or two with most basic notes and progressions
@jovantrendmaker4722 making boom bap is easier because mixing a damn boom bap is so damn simple it requires no skill .. mixing fat 808s on into trap beat is not easy

kick kick snare or clap
That's RZA inspired
Pattern Holds beat steady and leaves much space between kick and snare hits

That's great news. A producers sound is often just an amalgamation of their influences, so you're on the right path

Could you do classic G-Funk next? The ones from some of the first G-funk albums (The Chronic, Doggystyle) With that high pitched synth they all used.
if u wanna make that synth its just two sine or triangle waves with one detuned slightly, plus portamento
the rest is mostly in the sampling
