      As a machinist, I recognized the marble slab they were using to check flatness. That and all the other testing they do reinforces my choice to go with Prusa. I will be ordering soon! I can't wait!

      That's where a lot of the cost comes from. You can probably source similar parts to build a clone for probably $300-$400, vs the $749 or whatever the kit cost is of the i3 Mk3s.

    I am currently waiting for my first 3D printer from Prusa and was impressed by their operation show in this video. I am a retired mechanical design engineer designing production machines in Silicon Valley. I worked for start up companies and established companies and know production area very well. After seeing their operation, I am pretty comfortable now with the decision I made to buy their machine. Thank you for the video you made.

    Any time you can get on a factory floor I’ll watch.
    So much testing, such a young workforce, and so much in-house manufacturing. No clone for me ever again, I’ll save a little longer to cover the extra cost to support Prusa.

      My thoughts exactly. I worked with a guy who ordered Prusa. I was impressed that they emailed him at one point to say that his MMU was going to be delayed a few weeks because they were coming out with an upgrade, and wanted to ship him the upgraded version instead of the current version.

    • @homeweingarten1286

      @@paularcher17 same story for us. We are a Makerspace at a uni in Germany and we ordered 5 Prusa mk3 and when they arrived to our surprise we noticed a "MK3S" sticker on all of them. So i emailed them whats the matter with the S version because i have not heared of an upgrade yet and we ordered the normal version. As a response they congratulated us on having ordered them and that an announcement for the upgraded S version is planned for later that week.
      So yeah, they sent us the upgraded version for free before they were officially introduced. Such a great company!

      I know it's 2 years late, but I just got myself an i3 mk3s+. Came as a kit, asembled in 7 hours with a steady slow pace. Aside from a few tweaks, it was pretty much running perfectly out of the box, and now I'm printing day and night high quality board games from Fillamentum reels.

    The filament data on the QR code they have on the spool is the best part I think. It makes a lot of sense and I’m sure some other manufacturers will start doing it as well.

    • @internettoughguy
      @internettoughguy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There's no real value added to the end user. Its more gimmick than anything. Once you have the filament what difference does that information make to you as the user?...Nothing.

    • @steveh1792
      @steveh1792 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Internet Tough Guy No, none to you if you just sit on it. It might be very useful if you have an problem with the filament; get the information back to Prusa and something useful might well come of it, whether changes to manufacturing or transport or even just finding out you got a bad one that slipped through and you're due a replacement for it.
      Everything isn't just about you alone, big guy.

    • @jasongram1287
      @jasongram1287 5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Update Slic3r to parse that data in to extrusion multiplier for even cleaner prints? Also keeps them honest, lots of people can claim +/- something but if you have per spool data you can't go "Eh, its just one point out of spec. Ship it!"

    • @aaronbeckman
      @aaronbeckman 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Internet Tough Guy now people can't blame filament diameter inconsistencies on the spool (that is, if Prusa records correct/true information which I would hope they do) and as Jason said, you could parse the extrusion data, although that would not matter with the tolerances that they have. Maybe for smaller nozzles though.

      1) Thanks for your answer Josef ^^
      2) Are you using multiple independent parts (extra PID regulator for every heating zone) or better PLC to drive everything? And are those parts you can normally buy, or is it specifically made by you / your people? I'm just curious!
      3) About 3D printers, were you thinking about extruder with valve? Something like hot-runner system in injection moulding industry. Maybe even nozzle on rail under extruder might work, just move it with small servo to open/close extruder.

    This is why Prusa has consistently been considered one of the top consumer grade 3D printers. Ya it's a bit more expensive then the kits from China. But that's because of the superior parts, quality control, tech support, all the additional features, and stuff like load testing on their frame. Compared to an acrylic frame copy of the i3 with inferior parts cobbled together.

    • @eenlow
      @eenlow 5 ปีที่แล้ว +24

      I was thinking the whole time they do all this for a 800 machine. I would even pay more. These guys are obviously taking the profits and reinvesting in their company which is better for the consumer ultimately. With a better product and service. Profits to pay more so employees are motivated, happy, and skilled too. You can see where your money is going. I am a proud owner of a 2.5!

    • @steveh1792
      @steveh1792 5 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      David You don't have to, don't forget. There are less expensive alternatives. They'll usually require more tweaking to get right, more maintenance time per hour of useful work, etc etc. Don't worry, someone else will be just as happy to take your money.
      I used to build my own computers; it was fun, and a little to a lot less money. I don't any more; my time is worth more to me now, and the things I want to get done don't include building a new server or workstation.
      Something for everyone.

      David That depends on what you want. I like fiddling a bit, so I buy a China printer. If you just want something that will work perfectly out of the box, you buy something just like this where there is good quality control.

    • @DaveWirth
      @DaveWirth 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I just checked the price of the Ultimaker S5......$5995.
      Any time someone asks me "what's a good 3D printer to buy?" I tell them, well you can get a kit from china for $150 but it will take a lot of tweaking to get it printing well. For some people that is fine and the fun of it may be all the little fixes. But i also tell them that if they want the best printer around that works right out of the box, get a Prusa.

    I bought a Prusa is MK3 kit and was impressed with the detail they provided in terms of setup, calibration, potential issues, problem
    resolution, support forums etc. etc. Needless to say, the result of following the detailed instructions, carefully, listening, carefully following the instruction, have been almost perfect prints of gears and many prototype mechanical parts. The "almost" is my bad on the build files. Now that I see their operation, I know why they did so well for me and will continue to support them.

    Seeing exactly the diameters across the spool is definitely something I wish more companies would do (imagine if it were integrated into the printer in a way where the printer always knew where it was at in the spool and what diameter to expect - especially important for Prusa's MMU to have accurate diameter). The only filament I know of doing it now is Veracity filament and now Prusament filament.

    I would love to tour there and I am a total PRUSA fan. My MK3 has been a great experience. I had a problem with a gen 1 heat bed. I was online with support for 10-15 min diagosing the problem and 4 days later a new heat bed arrived here in Northern California and printing again 30 minutes after that. I jumped in with the SL1 with full set-up, due to that customer support. PRUSA's constant firmware upgrades, support and quality is all worth the premium pricing.
    I live 40 minutes from a recently closed well known 3D printer company, I got my first 3D printer from 4 years ago. The printer was well designed, solid and pricey, but lousy customer support.

    Super honest video guys! If only every company was forced too produce videos like this, the world would be a different place! Thank you🤜🏼🤛🏼🍀😎

    Was pleased to see the amount of quality control they use. Love my Mk3.
    Also was wondering what the filament extruder part that had the filament going through tons of pulleys was. Should have known or guessed it was a buffer system.
    Kinda wondering if all filament should be put through the dehydrator to dry it if all filament is passed through water to cool it.

      Yeah, old trick in the paper printing trade (forgot what they call it now, but buffer will do). Allows them to change over spools without stopping the production line.
      Guess the filament in the cooling water is still hot enough to expel moisture. only after cooling it becomes a problem.

    I'm planning on buying a MK3, although due to my desire of visiting Czech Republic next summer, can you purchase the printer directly on their factory?

    12:00 Jeez...so many printers in one room it was generating enough EMI to mess with your wireless lav mic! 😵 Great video! Wow, what an _absolutely amazing_ place! 😄👍

    • @MadeWithLayers
      @MadeWithLayers  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually, EMI was no issue at all - what you're hearing is heavily processed audio to remove the noise from the printers and the ventilation system. Sometimes that just sounds a bit glitchy!

      Oh, hah! That makes more sense!🤔 Somehow I didn't notice that the 300+ printers were far too quiet, I was so fascinated by the production process! 😂

    Great video. I like my Prusa MK2.5 so far. Seeing so many in a room at once is awesome. :{J

    Awesome Video i wish this Tour was shoot in 360° or better be there. 😁
    I can remember when Prusa made his own Videos about his 3D Printer like printing a Speaker and stuff like that and look what he got now all because he got a great Printer and tweaked a few Things and stuff like that.
    The time realy runs away in technical Stuff like that and i wish him realy the best with his Printers.
    Hope to see him personal some day. ✨✌

      Lol, initially I read "I wish this tour was shot in 360° or better", and started wondering how a video could be "better than 360°" - like maybe a 720° video? :D

    Hi Thomas, I saw you had a Mk2 build video series. Affiliate benefits aside, are you considering creating a Mk3 kit?

    Now I want a Prusa machine even more now. I don't know why but these behind the scenes videos always make me feel better about a company. What are they doing with those 300 machines they are changing to the mk3? Can we buy these used machines?
