It’s also how we as tenants do with our sometimes outdated spaces I personally feel less is best & it took me sometime to get there but I promise it has been a definite upgrade for me😌 cool video.
ugh i know. the whole heat situation is a whole other story that i can def delve into in another video, but the long and short of it is that it isn’t really my landlords fault but rather the government who seems to be overbooked with appointments to give us the okay to turn it back on after a leak was fixed. idk at this point and i still don’t have heat but yeah 😅 that’s the nyc life sadly
def something to be aware of if you’re looking to move into the city… lots of apartments aren’t renovated and especially anything that is cheaper is often not renovated. but this apartment works for me and my partner well and we honestly couldn’t ask for much more considering everything!!
Lovely apartment. Perfect example of working with what you have and making the most of it! Thank you for sharing, you rock! Much love from Northern California 😉❤️
wait this is brilliant hold on ✍️✍️✍️ only concern is shelves being above the stove getting greasy bc we don’t have an exhaust fan…. but def worth a try!!!
I'm quite familiar with these old apartments. On one hand it's very spacious and on the other hand they were originally built with no closets. Putting cabinets above the stove and fridge would be very useful to minimize the clutter. Maybe your landlord would reimburse (or go half) for the cabinets if you go ahead and install them. A large mat under the kitchen sink would protect the floors. Overall you're doing a great job!
thank you!!! and honestly yes to the mat under the sink and the shelves! only worry is that we don’t have an exhaust fan so any shelving above the stove i’m worried will get gross fast… but idk idk. something i’m def looking into!!!
This is great. Thank you for the useful information. I'm kind of at a loss because my full-time position starts in August after i graduate grad school. Peak time (especially summer) is the worst time to look but i can't find an alternative. Now I'm searching for roommates online and hoping it works out since I'm moving from Texas with no friends or relatives in nyc. Oh well, can't wait for more apartment content from you.
thank you!! and congratulations on the new job!!! incredibly exciting getting something right post-grad, truly congrats ☺️ and totally get it. i was definitely in a bind when i first came - with a two week airbnb and a dream 😂 it will all shake out how it shakes out, and ultimately as long as you have savings (save as much as possible now your future self will thank you!!!!) you will land on your feet. new york chews people up and spits people out but it makes you all the better for it. you got this!!!
Very pleased that some TH-cam deity recently put this video on my Homepage, and happy to support you by subscribing. I commend you on a refreshingly amusing, informative, and realistic tour of your home and a fine example of how real people live. Also, very grateful that you don't find it necessary to constantly be checking yourself out in every reflective surface as do so many creators who primp and preen obsessively throughout their videos. I don't live in the U.S. so real estate related videos, particularly from major urban areas, are of particular interest to me. Just curious whether you originally sought out and rented this apartment as a single tenant, or if it was for you and your partner from the get-go. Keep up the good work.
This apartment is so piecemealed it would cause me anxiety, and depression. It's attempting to be organized, but it's just organized chaos. It's not esthetically attractive or calming in anyway.
Hi! I just stumbled upon your channel (new subscriber!), and I have to say I loved everything about this video. I'm hoping to move to the city soon and It's nice to see a realistic NYC apartment on this platform. I also love how y'all utilized space. You mentioned the second half of 2022 was the worst time to be looking. What do you suggest is the best time to be looking?
aww thank you!! so happy you liked it, i remember when i was moving here struggling to find apartments of people not making millions LOL. in terms of moving, peak times (meaning more inventory but also MUCH more competition and thus higher prices) hit between may and september-ish, while low times (meaning less inventory, less competition and lower prices) i've found happen between november-february. there are def pros and cons to both, but ultimately i would recommend looking during a low time because you can save thousands on rent! in 2022 however the prices just were not going down... in 2023 they seemed to thought so hopefully the rush to move here post-covid has subsided?
Your apartment has a lot of natural light, wow. I suggest you watch Alexandra Gater on YT, it might give you some ideas. Your decor could be improved. Your bedroom looks like a cozy retreat , the wall color and the drapes are perfect. Maybe you could use a curtain to close off the closet. For the clothes stand, maybe organize your coats in color blocks to lessen the visual clutter. The artwork seems to be hung a bit high all over your space. In the bathroom , you have done a good job in diminishing the visual clutter with the beige organizers. The wrap over your shoulders is not a flattering look for you, the shape is weird. The neutral colors of the pants and pull works well for you.
when I here "realistic"I immediately think oh ok she is messy and label it realistic! your apartment looks pretty tidy but you have sooooo many things! try to declutter once in a while and you will be amazed of the things we don't actually need! good job though for such a small place!

cool video.
This makes me depressed, why cant these landlords update and maintain the units better.. these people are rich af and dont care at all

Railroad apartments are a NY classic! You're very fortunate that you have so many windows because sometimes the inner rooms can be very dark!
yes i’m so thankful!!!! every room gets such beautiful light i’m so spoiled

Viewing for 1st time 8/2024, OH . Suggestion: add shelves in tall window sills.

How many sq. feet?
By the way…. What the heck is a “ Railroad Apartment “?????😂
omg a railroad apartment is an apartment that doesn’t have any hallways! so it’s just a straight line of rooms if that makes sense
luv the character...not a fan of the cookie cutter, modern, all white...
thank you!! it definitely has its pros and cons but i really love it :)
