Norm is an American treasure! Thank you Norm!
Yes!
Loved the story about the horse’s ads 😂 Norm’s wife is a treasure! Glad that Norm listened to the youngsters and started the TH-cam channel- I’m a bad guitar player but I do like to collect and learn about them 🤗. Thanks for sharing your story and taking it back to Norm’s!
Yeah, the horse ad story was great. Creative! Thanks for tuning in. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Been following Norm for a long time, always has great content, would someday like to get out to Ca. to visit his store. Thanks for
the memories Norm & crew!
Norm is the Man! Great Person also👍🏻.
Love is the driver of the whole gig. The heart strings of life need to be plucked.
Thanks for posting this great interview with Norm. You covered a lot of interesting ground, glad to see Norm doing well. Very cool.
Glad you enjoyed it. I had a great time in the shop. Be well.
That was a great interview.
Relaxed and informative and Norm's love of the business is palpable - right thru the screen.
Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it. It was fun to chat with Norm. He's an inspired dude.
Good interview. Love Norm's. Much respect for him and his team. One of a kind place. A lot of times it's not about the guitar. Glad he is still around. Soon at 70 myself I thoroughly understand what he is talking about discussing the future. As Carroll Shelby said, Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, we are alive today." We just don't know what is coming but sure as hell the end is.
Yeah, I didn't want to get too heady, but I wanted to be sure to ask Norm about his perspective at this point in life. There's important stuff there, beyond the guitars. The guitars ain't bad either. Thanks for watching. Be well.
1987 Norm’s my first visit-Tampa Ave days.
Guitar talk, shock & awe-
A lot of “hanging out” back then. Admiring both guitars & customers with beautiful commonality. Every guitar player knows Norm and his work for the community.
Legendary history here with this man and his shop-
Jordan’s all grown up now. Probably still going to Tatsuki’s for Sushi- Now he’s in the Back Room…. Nice
Great exchange/interview~
Years of guitar dedication, still in the making,,,
Thank you Norm~
Yep, a lot of history. Regular guys, dedicated and trying really hard, making history every day as they go along. It was wild for me to see Jordan and also Rob. When I was young, Rob seemed like the coolest guy in the world. Jordan was just a young guy. Now I go back 25 years later. Rob still seems like the coolest guy in the world and Jordan is all grown up, but hasn't aged a bit. Me, I'm not any more cool and I've got a white beard...
Brother John! What a great video! Thank you so much for putting out such great and important content.
When I first moved to Santa Barbara in ‘13, I was hearing a lot about Norm’s. Curious, I had to make the pilgrimage. That day, Norm made me a deal on my first laptop. I still have that instrument and it is my most played of my lap steel collection. Fond thoughts as I survey and play it.
Thanks to NRG, Norm and everyone there who make it happen every day. A true gem.
Brother Mehmet - thanks for watching! If anybody understands the magic of guitar, it is you. Keep in pickin' yer gtrz and lap steels. Too much fun!
Glad to hear the Norm's doco is finally done and will be out soon. Last time I was there they were showing me clips from it. It's going to be fantastic.
Yeah, I heard they had a screening a few months ago at a local film festival. Looking forward to seeing it myself.
Great interview inside "the 6 & 4 String Paradise" often heard about but never seen. Compliments.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Man, that secret stash of guitars is the stuff dreams are made of....
Great stories and insight into Norm’s evolution. What a great guy!
Glad you enjoyed it. He's super entertaining.
Great interview. All the best from 🇬🇧
Thanks for watching. Appreciate you dropping a comment. Be well.
Fabulous.
Many thanks. Glad you enjoyed it.
@@guitarmagic Always fabulous Norm, always. God Bless.
I’m a kiwi who visited norms and it was a pleasure meeting the staff , really down to earth vibe, bloody bonza place to hang out
Hanging out in that place is bonkers. So much fun.
Great interview. I was there during covid so full masks unfortunately. Nicest moment was Lemmo getting excited for me to show him how I was playing a Smiths song on an old Gretsch
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching. Going to Norm's ship is a complete experience. I encourage all guitar nerds to make a visit.
love you norm, also for what you said about john lennon… the next time i get to LA, i definitely have to make it to the shop! i wonder if you ever met and remember a guitar player named larry weber from playa del rwy? he was a dear dear friend of mine and a huge inspiration. just a wild guess, but as you say, the guitar world is well connected, i‘m pretty sure he would have bought from you… nevermind! much love & respect! david
I was there just last October. I’m from Norman, Oklahoma. Nice place. Friendly staff.
When I did this episode, I was in Norm's shop for about six hours. I watched his crew closely. They were very friendly, helpful, and super knowledgeable.
I started as a musician 1979 and walked away from playing live in the mid 90's because I was making a great living mixing sound, running lights and working for companies doing it. I worked a lot locally also and worked mixing on live broadcast shows and it was fun, sure, I couldn't grab a beer and play rock star but I was making a lot of money and it was paying my bills plus big time. It is my living. Most people who make a living a in live entertainment that know what they are doing can make money anywhere. Techs are in high demand.
Sounds like you had a good run! Glad to hear it. Everybody’s has to balance the equation in their own way. Some are more practical solutions than others. Hope you enjoyed the video. Be well.
Norman is the real deal met him at a guitar show totally cool took time to chat guitars & basses ….must stop shop when
in So Cal you won’t be disappointed.
You might leave with less $$$ and a guitar, but it is worth the visit even just for the experience. Thanks for watching.
Way cool-I don't play but my uncle does. Watch Norm video's all the time.
Glad you enjoyed it. Although my main audience is guitar-nerds, I'm hoping the important lessons from the guitar community will land with a broader audience. Thanks for giving this a watch.
Fantastic interview GM, I love Norm's place, thank God for youtube, I've watched many of them, Norm's "nephew" JB , Richie Sambora, Eric Johnson, Orianthi, Frank ( a regular as is Bonamassa....lol), too many to mention, all fantastic videos. Thanks GM and Norm.
Thanks so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it. Norm's shop is a landmark for guitar players. I was lucky to spend so much time there when I was younger.
I’m an east coaster, but I try to make an annual pilgrimage to Norm’s. It’s always a thrill, and Norm is such a great person to spend time with. And I always leave with a guitar 🎸
Man, I've only left Norm's with a guitar once... but it was a good one. Maybe I'll see you in the shop one day. Until then, be well and keep on pickin.
I'd rather go there than Graceland
I ENJOYED THIS INTERVIEW
SO GOOD TO SEE JORDAN
I’M GONNA SUBSCRIBE

Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the interview. Happy to see your comment because I know you are a friend of Norm's and of the Guitar. Be well.
Norm has a great attitude. Best wishes to Norm and his family.
Thanks for watching!
The famous " harp guitar " Robbie Robertson used in The Last Waltz movie , was owned by Mr Harris and rented for the closing scene ...its an all round brilliant ending to an all round brilliant movie ...the very finest ever made in my opinion . Mr Harris is a true gentleman of the highest order ...check out his kind deeds to others .
I actually went to the benefit show for Midnight Mission that he mentions in this video. It was a night to remember and I think it raised a lot of money for folks who really need the support.
Very interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Those Guilds are fab jazzers.
Agreed. I think totally undervalued compared to the Gibsons. Wish I still had my old Guild. I miss it. Thanks for watching. Be well.
Love those.
I never made it out there..Sure wish I had. He's a legend in the industry.
Next time! You'l enjoy it. Thanks for watching.
From a devoted NRG fan and loyal customer........ Norm's is the only guitar dealer I trust when purchasing an expensive vintage Gibson guitar.
Norm knows what's up! Thanks for watching. That shop is such a fun hang.
Great stuff. 🫡
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Norm seems a great bloke🎸
He's a good dude.
real cool
Thanks!
💜💚❤Top man
I could just imagine the amount of old Gibson acoustic guitars he found. LG and CG series.
He was at the right place at the right time, that's for sure. But he worked his butt off. When I was younger, I never quite realized that. Now I see it.
3:21 - Uh, what? Norm got his years mixed up.
3:29 - Hah! He did it again
Hah. Good attention to detail!
He said 2000; maybe he meant 1970?
@@vayabroder729Yup! Ol’ Norm’s brain is playin’ games.
I bought a 2009 Fender Jazz bass there. Mark Agnesi was the salesman. I instantly got a bad vibe from him.
He had no love for customers and was soon fired. 2 years later I returned the bass as it was just not up to the task.
I bought 2 Sire basses with the Fender money and have never looked back.
Mark left to go to Gibson; can’t recall that he was fired.
.
Norm is the real deal.
And he'll make you a real deal!
You didn’t ask the question that I’m interested in: where does Norm think the market is headed? Still higher for vintage guitars? It seems that we’re so saturated with guitars today that it’s only vintage that can hold value. And I think that certain types, like old archtops, may actually lose value as baby boomers die off.
That would have been a great question. Wish I would have asked. If you check the show notes, I listed the shop's address. If you wind up in Tarzana, CA anytime soon, go visit Norm and ask him! I bet he would tell you his thoughts. Thanks for watching.
At this point, Norm wants to sell his inventory and then sell or lease the name of the store.
Can you just walk in to Norm's shop to browse, or do you need an appointment?
I think they have business hours. I don’t think they are open every day, but at least on the same days every week.
I would have thought the son would take over.
the used car saleman of vintage guitars.
He does know how to sell! But I think he tries hard to sell stuff worth buying. Thanks for watching.
👌👌👌😎

Be nice to see Norm put together a shared ownership plan for some of his loyal staff like Lemmo.
@grahamsimoson768. You dont know norm do you
I think a few of his previous crew members have gone on to have their own successful shops.
That’ll never happen in a million years.
@@Chainsaw_HM-2 norm‘s previous employee, Jack Ryan Sullivan and I opened Malibu Music last January. I think we have a great shop without Jack. He decided to become a daddy in March and left the business. But come into Malibu Music across from Zuma Beach in the Trancas market center, and we will hook you up.
we have many people come out and say they appreciate our collection and we’re disappointed in Norm‘s currently. That being said, I respect Norm immensely and I think he has had a great run with many great guitars. I am hoping that some of his customers will come take a look at our shop because I think they will find something similar and maybe even better.
Thank you Norm for being who you are. You are definitely a frontiersman in the Guitar world. And I appreciate your charity work!
Like for Norm and to support guitar content!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed the video. Be well.
Norm is a talented man.
I opened a GREAT guitar store in Malibu with one of Norms ex- employees(Jack Ryan Sullivan) who decided to leave the business to become a full-timefather.
My store is called Malibu Music, and we would love to see any of you down there. We have quite a variety of guitars and many customers who have been to both of our shops believe we currently have the most variety.
Look forward to seeing you there.
Thanks for dropping a comment. Next time I come through Malibu, I'd love to stop in.
