GUITAR MAGIC
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 เม.ย. 2020
GUITAR MAGIC - an audiovisual love affair with the guitar and its people! Viewers ride with Little John Hammond on pilgrimages to guitar wonderlands and get to know iconic players and influential friends of the instrument through guitar-in-hand interviews. You can expect slice-of-life experiences and expertly crafted interviews that humanize guests by revealing their stories, hopes, dreams, music, and sense of wonder about the guitar.
Guitar Magic's travel component allows viewers to see the natural habitat where interviewees thrive and develop a "sense of place" where guitar magic happens. For episodes that require ground travel and vagabond accommodations, Little John's 1987 VW Westfalia - affectionately named Guapo - will serve as transportation, lodging, and mobile production studio (a.k.a. Studio Guapo).
This show wrestles with questions that Little John and many others have had since day one: Why does the guitar have such a hold on me and how I feel more of its magic?

GUITAR WAS MY BEST FRIEND: Celebrity actor Jeff Daniels speaks candidly about his deep musical life.
@OfficialJeffDaniels tells Little John the whole story of his musical life and lifelong connection to the guitar. Jeff describes how he became a prolific songwriter; sometimes he's hilarious, sometimes he makes you cry. Little John was fascinated by Jeff's perspectives on the story-arc of songs and the emotional contours of a set list. This conversation goes deep. Spoiler alert: Jeff is a serious musician whose day job is "Famous Hollywood Actor." Enjoy the long form interview!

Such a great interview, good job. JD is a wonderful fellow and I am very impressed with his playing, singing, writing. So down to earth.
Love This! Thanks for doing this!
Great interview! Jeff is a real guy and gentleman! It was nice to get to know him and his journey. He owes a lot to that 6th grade teacher that saw his talent and kept him trying new challenges. We should all be so lucky to have someone realize our talent and give us a boost.
Agreed. The people who see great potential in others and help are also heroes.
It’s like I heard Emmylou Harris say, “Music is too important to leave to the professionals.” Me, I say “Play for yourself first, your circle second, your audience last.” Not that the audience doesn’t deserve the best you can give them, but playing for the audience alone will not sustain you or give you joy, in my experience. Now, if I ever get to the place where large audiences turned up to hear me, I might change my mind.
Personally, I think, if we aren't making room for regular folk to create music, we are squandering a lot of potential. I'm glad the pros are out there doing it and giving us a reference point of what's possible, but a lot of us feel compelled to make music for no good reason - and that's OK!

What's the name of tims vocal record?
Great interview.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
I hope you come back to Fort Lauderdale again.

Hello from Port Townsend
Hello!
This interview is great on a bunch of levels. ❤❤❤❤❤❤ Tim is top shelf in my book.
Appreciate your comment. Thanks for watching. Glad you got something good out of the interview.
"I'm in the happiness business..." That says a lot, from within and outwardly. This is, to my mind, one of the best interviews I've had the pleasure to absorb. Thank you. I feel grateful and invogorated, inspired, and informed for a productive day of practice and composition.
❤️ Thanks for watching. Glad you got something meaningful from the interview. Be well.
Really enjoyed that. A lot of things that Jeff talked about rang true with me as an ex actor and a singing/harmonica player. Thank you for your channel and bringing Mr Daniels on and sharing his story. Wonderful. UK Based Musician.
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching. Be well.
Another facet of Jeff, good Travis picking! I liked your singing and and enjoyed the song, well done! Oh yeah......... almost forgot, you're a damn good actor! 😊
He's got many talents.
Great interview!
Thank you!
Both the interviewer and the interviewee seem like great accomplished human beings. What an interview! Thanks to both!!😢
Really appreciate your comment. Thank you. Glad you got something of value from the interview. Be well.

great interview!!!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Bill is the best. Be well.
Tommy is unapologetically an entertainer.
He’s so good, an apology would never be needed!
Probably the best interview I’ve seen with Tommy. Very cool guy with a great passion to play for people.
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching. Tommy is an amazing musician, showman, and human.
Love this man!
He's a good dude!

What a great guy, I need to study and explore Jeff more.
I love his acting in The Squid and the Whale - a great movie... but I'm so impressed with his music too. What a cool guy.
Great interview! Jeff Daniels a Michigan treasure. I'm from Michigan. Been to The Arc saw JJ Cale (after show got back in line bought a ticket for his second show) saw him & Christine Lakeland twice in a row. Originally from Lansing so grew up going to Elderly Music. Love your work Jeff! Thanks!
Thanks for watching. Glad you enjoyed it.
Whaty a beautiful interview, Tommy share so much wisdom. "stay open, stay teachable" and so many others. Thanks for making this happen!
Happy you got something useful from it! Thanks for watching.
Thnx for this great interview.... Just subscribed your channel brother...
Thanks and welcome. Appreciate your comment. Be well.
🎉🎉🎉thank you for sharing this interview. Very down to earth positive reflection of Mr D’Ambrosio and the Eastman team he is such a vital part of, defining why these instruments are highly valued. Oddly I am today scheduled delivery of a model DC62, s/n 24004. Likely you’re aware how grateful I am to be blessed as a steward of that guitar. Just considering the journey of raw materials making their way to combine sublime with harmonic resonance. Thank You 😊
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching.
Love Jeff ... All around American .. Where can I get an album? Put it out Jeff... please... I have 100+ songs... never had the balls... show US.. Yes, there's an US... show us that it's okay
There are some albums out there. Get your album out too.
excellent interview and fantastic job as host. How Jeff mention in the beginning “It will be refreshing to ignore the other thing I do," He just took us to another knowledgement about music .
Thanks for watching and I’m glad you enjoyed it.
Just stumbled across your channel and this episode, and it made me think about why I got into acoustic guitars in the beginning. Several years ago my mom was diagnosed with dementia. I researched this terrible disease, and it seemed I should strive to keep my left and right brains sharp as I aged. Always having a love for music and a firm sensitivity to the relationship between music and emotion, I decided to learn to play guitar at the age of 50. The acoustic guitar seemed to be the perfect fit for me in terms of my musical tastes, and to paraphrase Jeff Daniels in your interview with him, …"have you ever seen a group of women standing around listening to a guy play trombone?" So, I bought a solid top Yamaha FG800, took some lessons and jammed with other dads in my neighborhood. To cut to the chase, what I did not count on was this new found love affair I have with the acoustic guitar. I guess better to arrive late to the part that to not go at all, but I sure wish I had found this love 40 years ago. Anyway, I am a recent subscriber and am enjoying your content. Keep it up, John, and thanks!
Thanks for watching. I appreciate your comment. I think everybody, no matter who they are, has some meaningful music within their reach. Keep on pickin!
Mike is a friend, I saw him twice with his trio, featuring Stephen Hodges and Watt, I always catch his performances here in FL.. I'm going to see him this month with Peter DiStephano . We talked about this particular interview and he really enjoyed talking with you in this setting.
Mike is a thoughtful guy and I learned a lot from him during our short time on top of the mountain. I was going to see him play the last time he came through my area but he the show was cancelled due to a massive rainstorm. Next time! Be well. Thanks for watching.
What kind of thumb pick is he using??
I’m not sure.. but I know that somebody in the comments knew exactly what it was… maybe they can answer your question.
Kinda sounds like the opening theme song from the Archie Bunker TV show.
It is!
Awesome and amazing, I love this. Sub now, and hope to meet again through both of our channels ,my friend. See you again 🎉
Thanks! Be well.
Truly an amazing human being 🙏🏻👍🎸🎸
Agreed!
He's old and copies Chet Atkins. Not a pioneer of guitar. Plays well but there's a many like him.
Personally, I think he’s a unique talent… but that’s a great part about the guitar community - there’s plenty of room for different opinions. Thanks for watching. Be well.
The man is more than a guitar virtuoso. His technical ability is augmented by a stage presence that is unsurpassed. He is an entertainer of the first degree.
Well where is his “damn good guitar” playing?
Zoom kept rejecting the sound of his guitar so we didn’t get any usable recordings during the interview… but he has a bunch of albums available and you can Google plenty of videos of him playing.
"pushing music where I haven't been before" ....hallmark of a musical genius
Bill is on a path of his own!
That Martin story is amazing!!!
Almost too good to be true... but I think it's true!
What a wonderful interview, not much a movie buff, but can relate to speaking through strings, and Elderlys professionalism, some of the best music ever is 1 or 2 on a porch
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching. Be well.
This interview as a whole was very warming to listen and watch. Maybe it was just the vibe between Tommy and the interviewer, but that was really wholesome. Thank you for a great listen all.
Glad you enjoyed it!
There are so many wonderful stories about guitars and having Jeff Daniels tell some of them is a rare treasure indeed! Thanks for this interview!
You bet! Thanks for watching. Be well.
A great interview with one of my favorite actors.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching.
Are you related to the other John Hammonds?
My dad is John Hammond, the jazz pianist. Hence the Little John nickname (so what if I'm much than my dad is now). There is no relation to John Hammond the record producer or blues guitarist, although, we have all received phone calls meant for the others over the years.
New to your channel. Appreciate the way you let your guest talk without interrupting. Jeff Daniels needless to say, is an amazing person!
Thanks for watching. I try to let the guest be the focus of the interview. Just seems like the right thing to do. Jeff was great. Take good care.
Would love to hear that song about pants/relaxing 😂 That’s gotta be good no doubt!!!😆
🤣
@@guitarmagic I saw Jeff in a panel of people and a reporter asked him a question, he cut loose and told her and all listeners just how bad it was, and with truth and a little sarcasm, silenced the whole place!!! I think it had to do with politics and basically the state of the country and world. He literally gave a complete speech, no rehearsal, and it wasn’t short. And he was spot on. He’s smart!!!! And I feel underestimated. He’s an amazing person in so many ways. GO JEFF!!!!👏👏👏👏👏
Love Guild’s too!!!!
What's not to love? I'm a big fan of their late 50's T-100 slim archtop guitars. Magical little things.
Anyone who appreciates and loves what Doc Watson did is sure ok in my mind!!!
👍🏼
Saw the fabulous interview then came here to see the playing. Really wonderful ❤️ and I love that Tommy keeps it all simple! The results when he plays are so phenomenal though! 😊
Simple ain't easy. Tommy gets the most out of every note.
@@guitarmagic oh don't I know it!! 🤣 He makes magic with every note!
Wonderful interview with Tommy .. never grow up! I love this attitude to life too! He's the best ... I see him play at every opportunity for the past 16 yrs at least! Always gives me goosebumps and a warm heart. ❤xx
So happy you enjoyed the interview. Thanks for watching. Tommy is a great guy and a legendary musician. Be well.
