    She peaked at the US Open and was mentally stronger than the rest of the field. More experienced players underestimated her. She didn't play anyone in the top 10. Older players will not be making the same mistake again. This is a tale as old as time in women's tennis. You peak, win a slam, your game is then studied, your weaknesses attacked, you lose. Again and again. Emma is not the first and certainly not the last to experience this. She has been hyped up beyond reason but will need time to adjust to the tour. I hope she figures it out quickly bc these girls will fight hard for a slam champions scalp.

    Rybakinas level was jaw dropping! A clean and effortless ballstriker. At the same time Raducanus shots didn't have enough bite to cause any problems. And she was often caught behind the baseline while facing great length from her opponent. And when she could step inside the baseline her shots were weak and Rybakina count counterstrike and Raducanu was too far infront. It led to the powerless shots and it was easy for Rybakina to dictate the rallies. Emma's serving and returning was badly excecuted as well. She was constantly on defense.

    • @bonzwah1
      @bonzwah1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      well yeah, she would be unstoppable if she could defy physics...but the aspects of her build that prevent her from being at the elite tier of flexiblity and agility are also the aspects that give her great striking power for her serve and ground strokes. Rybakina definitely strikes a heavier ball than ivanovic, and probably Venus (though its tough to compare, since venus's prime took place during an era of somewhat flatter hitting and faster courts). though her height is similar, rybakina definitely possesses a bigger, stronger, build. But I am already very impressed with how balanced and smooth her footwork is. I don't know how much more she could really improve these things realistically.

What you say is poetic, but untrue. human ingenuity is not about overcoming physical limitations. it is about working within those limitations in creative ways. Tennis is a beautiful sport because there are many paths to success. But if you want to isolate one specific aspect (speed and flexibility, in this case) then there is definitely a hard limit that each athlete has due to their body type. the key to improvement is crafting strategy or technique that circumvents those physical limitations creatively, rather than foolishly believing that you can just ignore those limitations.

    I've always thought that winning a GS wasn't normal for Raducanu (even though I loved her performance throughout the US Open), but to me, she doesn't have yet what it takes to be a GS winner, her lack of power was really obvious against a player like Rybakina who hits the ball so well/strong. Losing 6-0,6-1 sounds really nasty for a GS winner. Raducanu might be a fluke, and the most difficult for her is to prove us wrong by winning another GS against the very top players (which wasn't really the case in NY.)

What she did at US Open was spectacular but jumping 127 rankings points after 1 tournament gave her a rankings that her skillset and experience can’t support. Her ppl should prioritize matches over big events against top players. She plays like a player ranked top 50 at best. And that’s ok. She’s still new. She shouldn’t be expected to complete with the #13 whose been playing for years. Raducanu's game was all over the place today (her service game in particular was so nervy), but not at all surprising given that it's her first match of 2022, after what was a disrupted pre-season too due to Covid. That will be the first time she'll have faced power like that too, with Rybakina pummeling serves at 120mph & with a 1st serve percentage of 77%. She has started the year in blistering form too, and can see her in the top 10 by Spring.
    People really need to reign in their expectations with Raducanu. Winning a WTA250, perhaps a few WTA250 or 500 QF appearances, combined with reaching round 4 at Wimbledon & the US Open would IMO be a good year for her. So much for her to experience in her 1st full year on tour. Never played a WTA match on clay. People need to chill, let her learn. If somehow she's around the top 50 after losing her US Open ranking points by December, I think that will set her up nicely for 2023.

    Raducanu is in a truly weird position as a “newbie” on the women’s tour-a position that no other player in the Open Era has ever occupied, to my knowledge. She appeared virtually out of nowhere, with minimal pro experience and a negligible ranking, to manage the unthinkable: peaking wildly to win the (arguably) biggest title on the planet. Immense fame, fortune, and expectation have followed swiftly and understandably. Yet her “everyday” game is clearly not yet up to the regular standard of the tour. It doesn’t make sense to most casual observers, but to informed tennis fans, it ought to make sense.
    The stars aligned for her in a most unusual way at the US Open and she took admirable advantage of a good draw and her own fired-up talents to win the whole thing within that three-week context (remember, she won coming from qualification rounds!). It’s as if the cart has been put before the horse, in career terms, for Emma. It is little wonder that Raducanu still seems a bit shell-shocked, given her actual inexperience and the astonishing way her life changed overnight. She will need a year, I think, for her “longterm game” to catch up with her highly unexpected and once-in-a-lifetime display of brilliance in New York. Hopefully, she will be given the proper time required to build her fine talent without undue pressure from tour, fans, commentators, and sponsors. Her US Open win was an almost freakish, anticipatory success-give her a healthy chance to let all things settle and then find her place on the day-in, day-out tour and she could certainly become a regular contender. She is much more gifted than this absolute obliteration by the treeing Rybakina would indicate. Plus, Emma’s going to have an extra big target on her back for quite a while. Here’s hoping she rises to the challenge because the women’s game needs a big star. Bad.

      Swiatek had the same trajectory, winning a Slam at 19 but she kept improving and is now ranked #1. Raducanu has yet to do well at any tournament since the US Open. I wish she'd get a full-time coach, because she simply doesn't have the skills right now to be a top player.

    Raducanu showed a very high level of tennis in the last US Open, but also in her first big torunament Wimbledon. She has the tennis, but she hasn't trained and played too much las months, so obviously she need to work hard on her tennis to come back to last year level, and go forward from there on. She is very, very young, and I think she can do it, if she really wants, she is very talented as she has proved to us. Just give her a chance...she is still a kid (do you remember yourself when you were 19 y/o?)

    Rybakina was just on another level. Total powerhouse of talent, precision and strength. She just didn’t let even a single short ball from Emma go for a waste and slammed them all. She commanded the game right from the beginning. As for Emma - She needs to develop her core game, she needs to build more strength, generate more power and by doing so threaten her opponent in rallies. I feel her shots lacked the sting, and even when she lost the first set she didn’t try and change her tactics.

    Emma needs to forget about her win at the US Open and look to consistently improve her game to continually challenge the top players. She didn’t face a top 10 player at the US Open, and her draw was cleared by Leylah Fernandez who played three top 5 players. She has been overhyped by the British press, and been given multiple awards before even establishing her self as a serial winner in tennis. She needs to understand the drive and sacrifice that the likes of Federer, Djokovic, Serena Williams and Nadal display to improve and perform at the highest level, focus ahead and win multiple slams.
