Uh, so this version of the game uses the Nintendo 64 soundfont? I really don't know how the old consoles worked

N64 music is sequenced instead of "streamed" as it is on the PS1 or the DC for instance. Consoles like the N64 use a sequenced tracker music, where the game provides the instruments and the "music sheet" (the sequence), and the console reproduces the sounds in order, as if it were reading all the "music sheets" of the instruments and playing them accordingly. It sounds like this because the instruments are prerecorded in short samples rather than the whole song being its own sample as this saves a ton of space (audio sample files are heavy), esentially building a "catalogue of notes" that the console has at its disposal to choose from rather than having a "scale of notes" to play the instrument.

N64 use MIDI, some games have worst sound quality than SNES (example: mortal Kombat trilogy character select music)

      to put it simply:
the dreamcast and other versions would just play a pre made sound file with the song in it. these versions arent just a file with the song, it's a script that tells the console what sounds to play at what time, so its a bunch of sounds playing along to the script. usually the sounds can be wierd when stretched to be lower or higher, and thats why it sometimes sounds worse. its less storage space though
