  • Did you know that David Ross, now the manager of the Chicago Cubs, hit his first career home run off of Mark Grace? While neither played for the Cubs at the time, David Ross would go down in Cubs history with the 2016 World Series Championship team and Mark Grace had already established himself as a Cubs legend. In 2002, the two players met in a Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers matchup when Mark Grace entered the game in the 9th inning as a position player pitching. In this throwback episode of The Breakdown, presented by CDW, see the game from each of their perspectives.

Don't know whether y'all take suggestions but I'd love one on Ben Zobrist's go-ahead double in Game 7 of 2016. Outside of the obvious, him jumping into 2nd is the main mental image burned into my mind from that game that probably took 10 years off my life.

Two Cubs legends from different generations shared this quirky moment when neither of them were Cubs. I love baseball.

As the announcer said, “Some guys come in for relief, he came in for comic relief

Great story. Future Cub vs former Cub. Mark Grace was my mom's favorite player. Love both of those guys.

Love how the graphic registers most of the pitches as “fastball?”

They should have put in Rossy's post game interview. When asked "What did he throw you?". He responded "I don't know...something straight...and slow." 😂

I loved this! Nothing more infectious than David's smile and laugh! Such a great guy! Hope Hoyer can bring a great Christmas gift back to Chicago to him and all of us die-hard Cubs fans for 2023 from these Winter meetings!! 🙏

why did the Diamondbacks ever change their colors?

A lot changed between the 2006-2007 season, new ownership wanted to change the entire look of the team including the colors. I miss my purple Diamondbacks.

Mark Grace would’ve been a Hall of Famer if he would’ve stayed with the Cubs. He was close to getting 3,000 hits. Just needed to play every day.
Of course I know he may have not been healthy, or because teams don’t play veterans that much, or go for a team with a shot at the title like he did in Arizona.
    So close!!
