    Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
    I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
    I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
    I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

    Nathan, once you are situated with the 360° rain. Is it possible for you and the boys to plant sweet corn where the corn was destroyed? I believe that would be fun for you and the boys throughout the season to grow a sweet corn crop there to help with the weed pressure. Perhaps your dad could build a simple sweet corn stand for the boys to sell sweet corn by a "Bakers" Dozen. See what I did there? Lots of teaching moments throughout and the funds raised could go to the boys for various events like County & State Fairs, ice cream runs etc. Just a thought. Stay cool today.

    A couple of things to think about: possibly adding some support under the middle flange. Should be insulated to protect flange from water hammer and add some freeze protection. The next is freeze protection tape for the pump head and some of the piping. You can set it up with an indicator light for a quick visual that it is on and working.
    Thinking long term and stuff isn’t getting and cheaper. The past industry I was in freeze protection is a serious business. Ask Texas power how big a deal it is now. I know the pump is only for warm months. I see how serious you take preventative maintenance and keeping equipment in good shape. Just think long term issues that may or may not be issues. Enjoy the videos.

    We run our pivots everyday if the night time temperature is above 75 degrees because the corn needs a break at night just like humans need sleep, so we use them to cool the canopy

    I’m just glad I got all my first cut totally done so I can hide from the 100 deg temps.

    I believe if you install a hookup for the fire department, you can apply for a tax break on the land. I'm not sure if your state would just be for the acre it's on or the entire lot. Bit it's worth looking into!

    Next time you use pipe fittings use silicone instead of Teflon tape it seals better and you can tape fittings apart easier next time

    This 360 Rain is not exactly plug & play is it? The next one will be much easier. ☔😉☔

    Do you have a pressure relief at the Z-drop riser? The distance isn't too far, but be aware of the water hammer.

    Make the corn grow roots before watering, then pour the water to it.

    Wouldn't it have been easier to use a Roll of black plastic pipe like 8s on the machine to bury with no joints?

    That well you drilled looks like it has a lot of water. You probably could have put up a pivot. You ever consider using gone of them? Quit a bit less money than the 360 rain.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Not less money. The same or more for less acres covered.

    • @EvanC8
      @EvanC8 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@BorderViewFarms thought the pivot cost 80 -100k and the 360 rain is considerably more. No? I wonder if there is a difference with the plants gets completely covered with water compared to only the roots. Maybe there is no difference. I don’t know.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @EvanC8 pivots to cover this field would cost double that and there would be considerably more in a bigger well and more piping to get the water to the pivots.

    I guess my question is why you would go up to 6" from 4" way I usually understood is that reduces pressure

      Stop watching Clint Eastwood movies (Pale Rider). It's all about distance and friction and velocity.

    • @BorderViewFarms
      @BorderViewFarms  9 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      It actually reduces the pressure loss over the length of the pipe. It reduces back down to 3" at the machine.

      As a farmer it seems no matter how well I plan I always feel behind. There’s just too many variables in farming for it to operate like a normal business. Some plan better than others and I for one think Nathan and family are better than average in that department.
