Border View Farms is a mid-sized family farm that sits on the Ohio-Michigan border. My name is Nathan. I make and edit all of the videos posted here. I farm with my dad, Mark and uncle, Phil. Our part-time employee, Brock, also helps with the filming. 1980 was our first year in Waldron where our main farm is now. Since then we have grown the operation from just a couple hundred acres to over 3,000. Watch my 500th video for a history of our farm I filmed with my dad.
I started making these videos in the fall of 2019 as a way to help show what I do on a daily basis as a farmer. Agriculture is different from any other industry and I believe the more people that are showing their small piece of agriculture, helps to build our story. We face unique challenges and stressful situations but have some of the most rewarding payoffs in the end. I get to spend everyday doing what I love, raising my kids on the farm, and trying to push our farm to be better every year. I hope that I can address questions or concerns that you might have about farms and agriculture.
I hope you enjoy my content and ask questions as you have them. I do my best to answer anything I can. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you subscribing to my channel and liking my videos. You can also find me on Facebook borderviewfarms and on Instagram @borderviewfarms

I don’t know who is more excited, you or me?! 🎉🎉🎉
Very happy for you both, and us too!
No more getting up in the middle of the night to switch the traveler.
That's a fabulous achievement for BVF and all involved. Thanks Nathan for taking us along.
Congratulations on the inaugural debut of the Rain Machine!
Congratulations!!!!!!!
WOW, the roots pulling up moisture still is absolutely fascinating. :)
Congratulations on getting The Rain 360 up and Running that's AWESOME
Hope you get 6" of rain!!
Making your own electrical enclosure, cool.
Another BestMark creation from the "back labs" at BorderView Farms!...just sayin'...
Way to go Nathan, congratulations with the 360 rain up and watering your 300+ bushels corn.
Nathan, you're like a kid in a new candy store. Congratulations on getting your rain maker up a running.
Ideally I'd want a ground rod at the pump and the control panel, both bonded together with about a 4 gauge STRANDED wire running through the trench. All grounds tied together for all the equipment considering there are somewhat delicate electronics involved. On the panel a Delta Lightning arrestor LA 603 and surge capacitor CA 603. Well pumps are a favorite target for lightning in spite of being deep underground. Physics is charming like that.
Like to see that irrigation system running
Congratulations Nathan and BVF . That is quite the machine
STAY COOL GUYS !!!!
There is no need to use a cement mixer. Just put the sacks directly in the hole. There is enough moisture in the soil to set up the cement in a few days. If very dry first pre wet.
Yeah Nathan. Looks like it will make a huge difference for you.
Excited for you!! Thanks for showing the details along the way....may help in my installation of the unit on our operation
Congratulations
If you are going to use those as anchors, consider filling those pipe poles with concrete too. It will and strength and prevent the actual pipes from bending
Seams like running your row cleaners deep to make a deep furrow for the water to run in.
Congratulations Nathan
This kind of irrigation will not contribute to fungi growth and will bring way more of the water actually in the ground. So much better than the pivot! So happy for you.
Oh wow that box looks amazing
Make it rain. Awesome 👍
Nathan don’t forget to cap your pipe so they don’t collect water and freeze and bust your concrete this winter
Congratulations, Nathan 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 The 360 Rain is working and am looking forward to seeing it completed and running off electric instead of the generator.
Fun to watch new technology working!
Can’t wait to see whether the investment was worth it at harvest compared to the old system!!!
Congratulations! Yes, it’s been a long time coming but it will be well worth it. Corn looks amazing!!
Congrats Nathan!
CONGRATULATIONS!!
It's working just like in the 360 Rain videos! Whoda thunk?🔥🔥🔥
Your corn is taller than here in Utah. We got hit with some frost Tuesday some fields missed some with a touch of frost some with bad damage.
Your dad’s enclosure looks great
Awesome! Even though it's running over some corn, it's probably not as much loss and leaving the open alleys for the reel and piping. 👍👍👍
That machine is so cool congrats to you
That is one cool gadget!
That is sweet!! It will be interesting to see how it does through the night. I wish I had one right now with no rain in the forecast 😂
Really happy for you Nathan. 😊
So cool, looking forward to a longer video on it working. Congrats!
Next year you just turn it on and let it go, congratulations on getting it up and running
The hinge and the patina of that box is so steampunk. I love it so much!
Good morning
Congratulations on getting the rain machine running. The only suggestion I have is give the rain machine a name. For a example I’m going to check on Ole and see how it’s working. Or Bob, Mary, Fred you get the idea.
Great job Nathan.
My nomination is Aggie, abbreviation of Cherokee word for rain AGASGA
Can you do a Timelapse with the drone? That would be pretty cool to see 👍
that's awesome
Looks great, thanks for sharing the process. You mentioned lowering your row cleaners next year, are you planning on doing corn on corn now.
C-c-b rotation but the beans will still get planted with the corn planter
Ok, was a little confused when you mentioned the row cleaners, since Phil does the bean planting.
Congratulations Nathan! Hard work pays off. Really excited for this and watch the results. I hope Yield 360 gave you a good deal with this great marketing you are giving them! 😊
Lets see if i got this straight, it waters the outside rows when laying the hose and then around the unit when it picks up the hose so the unit is always running on dry ground
Exactly
The system is not cheap, is the ROI sufficient for one irrigated field?
You should paint the enclosure for the VFD, or it will rust. Probably should have painted it before you mounted it actually.
The back and inside behind the VFD got painted before it went up. Didn't have time to let it dry on the rest but it will still get done
Two questions for you Nathan.....will that field being tiled cause any issues with the life of that well? Also, That field going to stay corn for the foreseeable future or are you still planning on rotating beans in? Glad you've got it up and running!
Tile are 30-36" deep, The well isn't very deep but it's deeper that that. Tile won't hurt it at all. Plan is corn-corn-beans rotation
Wow, a lot of corn knocked down!!! 🤔🤔👎👎
The thicker the concrete the stronger it is, you’ve a little to much water 🤔
It needs to keep a post upright, not support a bridge
Just use a Yeth ice cooler
Looking forward to seeing more Rain! Is there anyway of adding 5G internet or booster to the base station so the Rain can stay connected or is it using the 5G base stations as part of its positioning system?
It has a 4G LTE antenna. I think the problem is it runs on Verizon and they're coverage is terrible here.
So your running it off generator or did you get service put in?
Generator for now
What powers the 360 Rain Nathan?
It has a small diesel engine running a eletrical generator and hydronic pump
24 hp diesel engine.
What brand is your VFD?
Invertek
I'd rather have the real.
Then that
You turn it on at the start of the season once planting is done and then park it before harvest
Add fuel once a month and it’s done
You're the only one
@@BorderViewFarmsalways gotta be 1 jackass huh
I am a new subscriber I like your video which is interesting
I was so excited to see this actually up and running congratulations! Patience always comes out
That's awesome!!! So glad you got it going and that corn looks awesome. Are you planning to eventually get power from the grid or sticking with the generator?
Eventually yes but it's unlikely to happen this year.
Congratulations that machine looks awesome, and no waste of water.
Awesome, Nathan!
You’re not going to get much sleep tonight lol 😂
Dude, congratulations! Awesome piece of equipment!!
🔥is that ever a top notch setup man.. happy for u and the farm 🔥👊🔥⚙️🔨🏍🚜
It's Rain time!
Awwsome to see the Rain finally at work. What's the next purchase for the farm?
almost as many smiles as the day the RX arrived...
🇨🇦
That’s so awesome. Congratulations on getting it up and running. The corn that gets damaged is probably less than what would have been removed for the irrigation lanes. Can’t wait to see more of this machine in the coming videos. Keep up the good work. 👍
Far less
How long will it take to cover that field?
Depends on the rate but my math says about 3 days
Thats awesome!
Congratulations
Good morning
Nathan, I would recommend leaving the mist contraption in the mixing chamber. I work in manufacturing where we mix release agents with water with the water to release ratio's of 100:1 or greater. When mixing inline without a mixing chamber we found a lot of variation in the end product. Different chemistry and process, but I thought I would just throw that out there.
the way the water spits out is that way so the tires NEVER RUN IN WET (cuz you shut ir off when it really rains...) sooo, NO RUTTING FROM THOSE BIG BOOMS ... the tires don't run in the wettt, that is super cool!!! I was trying to get my head to thunk up the way it turns corners... but ... like WOW!@! COOL
CONGRATS!!!
sooo lookin forward to seeing you sho it off and seein that it DOES HAVING A NICE HALF INCH RAIN EACH AND EVERY WEEK!!!!! FOR THE WHOLE GROWTING SEASON!!!! cool!! do those guys that get 500 nad 600 bushes an acre use like 10 or 20 of them in one field so they all only have to do like 2 paths each ''pass'' ???????????? I have seen 360RAIN vids that have MULTIPLE MACHINES in the field ......
So isn’t that machine just basically a glorified gun pull cart, except it’ll go out on its own? Oh wait I see how it’s more sophisticated. Neat. Looking forward to the follow up video.
You feel the same way I feel when I put together an irrigation system at a large residence. Weeks and weeks of work and then you get to finally start seeing some water flowing.
Any word on when electric company will run power to it? When you plant next year could you make turns the way the 360 does on the ends so it could follow the rows when it turns?
Geez that knocks alot of corn down. When it gets hot like 90 degrees it will dry up as fast as it puts it out. Cant beat mother nature.
I’m going to guess 10’ tall corn and 260 bushels?👍👍🤞🤞🤞
Now you have to name the machine? Contest for a Best RX shirt?
Setup a remote-viewed drone base so you can fly a drone around from your boat if you get an alarm!
Will that shut down say it starts raining in the middle of the night or will it keep running untill you shut it down
I'll have to shut it down
What did u ever find on the 9520 starting issues
Nothing yet
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
