I was taught to cut up chicken what my dad called restaurant style in the mid sixties. We had a small grocery store in the Missouri Ozarks. The chicken ended up 2 legs, 2 thighs, 2 wings, 2 back pieces the tail and the neck side, 2 breast pieces and then the pulley bone part of the breast. Hadn’t heard that in years it was always my favorite part. Kent you were talking about cross contamination the food police would have had a heart attack back then. We cut everything pork, beef, chicken and venison during deer season on the same big wood butcher block. Just scraped it down in between and continued on. Each night it was covered with salt and scraped down again the next day before starting again. How things have changed. Haven’t heard of canned chicken either in years but remember mom and dad having Swanson can whole chicken on the shelf to sell. You said in the beginning about Marie Calanders (sp) in the beginning don’t remember those but definitely remember Banquet pot pies. Moms didn’t have a recipe for pot pie it was whatever was in the icebox and most of the time just had canned biscuits on top. That looks so fantastic to this old country boy. Hi from Brussels (Belgium Europe), Kent you are a master. You look cool and effortless...but , as a trainee cooker, I can see that you are a professional cook. Really. And you cook not in a professional kitchen! Your tip and tricks are scientifically right. Look how he fries first the vegetables, next the mushrooms (gives water) next the garlic, and how he manages to cook the outer crust of the pie! Respect. Folks, please respect and follow the recipes as he explains,Kent really knows the world of cooking (when to "singer" (technical french term for adding flower), when to first cook the meat and (!) use the grease that comes from lard or whatever to cook other ingredients (vegetables, meant). I have even tried is Cowboy coffee method, even if here we say "Boiled coffee, spoiled coffee"... and it works! Great coffee, smooth and tasty (OK here I double the amount of coffee). Congratulations and thanks for your channel. Kind regards Pedro (Brussels).

And the mesquite seasoning. The Al foil from his spatchcocking probably cut through the foil too. The board is contaminated but not as bad as using the whole bird on it.

we ate chicken pot pie all the time when i was a kid. my dad would make it from scratch. one of my favorite foods. now, i live overseas and i don't have an oven. i never get a chance to eat it. i enjoyed this, thank you.
Marie Calendar Pies used to be a standard in our home freezer. I used to love them but last year we brought some home from the market for dinner. I was shocked at the "mystery meat" that was in the pie. No more chunks of real chicken meat but tasteless cubes of something that looked like meat but actually was something else. I'll never buy another Marie Calendars again. I researched it a little and found out they had been sold to a Corporation who is more concerned about the "Investors" and "profits" than the customers. Never again will I buy a Marie Calendar product.
I love watching your videos , always so positive and amazing recipes. Thank you for honoring our veterans I had allergies as a kid, so couldn't eat chicken or beef. But a cousin always got the pully bone, and we'd pull it. I usually got the part that said I got my wish 🤞

Your videos are easy to follow with not so darn many ingredients and in amounts for two adults with just enough for another serving or one leftover meal for two. I don’t do much cooking over an open fire like in days gone by but really enjoy watching you outdoors cooking.
You talking about Sunday chicken sure brings back memories of my great grandma and us kids fighting over the wishbone. I can't express how much we love your videos! God bless from Wyoming!!
I love the musical riffs you put in your videos! Whenever I get to banging pots and grabbing skillets, the Wife always asks me "have you been watching that cowboy guy again?" I just grin....and light the charcoal.....
There was a place called Little Joe's when I was a kid and my dad and I would get chicken and tater wedges for our fishing trips. I always got drumsticks, not because I had to but because they were awesome. Dad liked to tell a story about seeing me asleep in the boat and when he went to get his chicken all he found was bones. I miss my dad, little Joe's and those fishing trips with him. Thank y'all for some great recipes.
Oh, the pulley bone!! My Cajun grandmother had chickens. When she cooked one, I as the baby of her 33 grandchildren, ALWAYS got it!! You just opened up a whole lot of precious memories with that!

Amen brother. Watching these videos is the best stress relief for me. It's like watching art unfold. Excellent work!!!
This looked extra delicious! I'm going to check out that hoodie with the pups on it.
After a hard day with the cattle on the farm, I love coming to watch you cook, I mellow right out.
I love your videos!!!!Before this video came on,I was thinking about making a chicken pot pie,and bam!!Here is the perfect recipe!!!You are truly amazing!!Bless you and yours, always.🙂
Thanks and God bless you
Man I wanot to say thank you... this covid has been hard.. my wife lost her mom and brother.. and now I have lost my job.. we turned your show on the other night and you had my wife smiling.. it's been a while since I've seen that.. I told her my favorite part is hearing your camera lady ( I'm not sure if she I your wife or not ) laugh out loud.. that shows true happiness.. we love to watch your show, so thank you and God bless you and her..
Now that's what I call a pot pie! Brought back memories of when I was young and broke all the time, those Banquet pot pies were pretty good at 10 for a dollar. I sure like you're version better, thanks for passing it along. I just need to figure out how to make it cook itself while I'm out ice fishing, sure would be good after a day on the ice.
6AM in south tx, what better way to start day, than to watch your video!!! God bless you kent &Shannon!! Love what you all do,truly a joy to watch!!🙏🙏🙏
This looks so good! I'd love to try this 😋
Kent I just made your chicken pot pie , Kent that was the best pot pie my wife and I have ever made , you my friend are a true American and one heck of a great cook thank you.
I can't stop staring at the oil bottle after Kent grabbed it with the gloves after touching the chicken. My Bloodborne pathogen and bacteria training just got triggered. Love y'all!
And the mesquite seasoning. The Al foil from his spatchcocking probably cut through the foil too. The board is contaminated but not as bad as using the whole bird on it.
The scariest was handling the paper towel. Lets pray they took precautions
Best food I ever had was camp food, branding supper, branding breakfast. You are one of the best and I would be proud to be able to eat anything you cook. Keep up the good work.
Good friend of mine always does the spatchcock, always curious how he did it, thanks for the indepth detail
Glad to help
I literally searched for this video 2 days ago and there wasn’t one and now today you make one. Prayers answered LOL. God bless
Looks soooo good. Wish I had a smoker/larger grill to do that chicken right! Gotta save. Thanks for the recipe & atmosphere.
Thanks for watching!
When i saw the whole chicken after being smoked/cooked.... i think i just fainted, because oh my gosh the chicken skin alone is deliciously beautiful!!!
Always love Beag, Duke, Major and Sadie! Hoping about a video/behind-the-scene-compilation video of their crazy antics!!
They are some good help
This is a great looking chicken pot pie! Have to say, though, Marie Calendar's is really pretty good too.
If you add more cooked vegs to Marie Callendar after it’s done, it really improves the pie.
Me and my mother eat many a pot pie by Marie
we ate chicken pot pie all the time when i was a kid. my dad would make it from scratch. one of my favorite foods. now, i live overseas and i don't have an oven. i never get a chance to eat it. i enjoyed this, thank you.
I have fell in love with Cowboy Kent. He brightens my day everyday. Hope Mrs. Cowboy Kent don’t mind. I love her too. ❤😊
I love watching your videos , always so positive and amazing recipes. Thank you for honoring our veterans
I had allergies as a kid, so couldn't eat chicken or beef. But a cousin always got the pully bone, and we'd pull it. I usually got the part that said I got my wish 🤞
We thank you Kym for watching
love it when you give your puppers some of the goodness. so glad I found your channel. love how you take receipes or "tv dinners" and create your own receipes from them
I've never had chicken pot pie but this is one I'll have to try!
Never had chicken pot pie!? That’s just WRONG!
@@reynaevans9435 I know.... I know
Your videos are easy to follow with not so darn many ingredients and in amounts for two adults with just enough for another serving or one leftover meal for two.
I don’t do much cooking over an open fire like in days gone by but really enjoy watching you outdoors cooking.
I love no peas recipe! Thanks, Cowboy Kent.
You are very welcome
You are always a joy to watch with all your sweet pups! That pot pie looks delicious!
Surely do wish y’all had more time for more of these per week. But, at least this way, we’re always looking forward to Wednesday! 😁
We have a video come out on Sundays as well
Thank you Ken. You are so awesome, and I always enjoy everything you do. Love to you and your family. God bless.
And God bless you
Great video. I love chicken pot pie, but the wife is allergic to peas, so I can always count on Kent's recipes to cut those out.
Yall have a great looking ranch I love it and the lake is so great looking...I also love the happy dances yall do....enjoy your day,❤
Can you two just adopt me? Love you both ❣️ plus everything you make looks absolutely amazing 😍
Thanks Bridget i will ask the Beagle
Please tell the Beag I love to give belly rubs 😁
You talking about Sunday chicken sure brings back memories of my great grandma and us kids fighting over the wishbone. I can't express how much we love your videos! God bless from Wyoming!!
I cracked up when you mentioned the “pulley bone” my family is from southeast Colorado and that is what we called the wishbone also!
I love the musical riffs you put in your videos! Whenever I get to banging pots and grabbing skillets, the Wife always asks me "have you been watching that cowboy guy again?" I just grin....and light the charcoal.....
That chicken pot pie looks delicious.
Will try to do it in my dutch oven.
I have got faith in you
There was a place called Little Joe's when I was a kid and my dad and I would get chicken and tater wedges for our fishing trips. I always got drumsticks, not because I had to but because they were awesome. Dad liked to tell a story about seeing me asleep in the boat and when he went to get his chicken all he found was bones. I miss my dad, little Joe's and those fishing trips with him. Thank y'all for some great recipes.
Thanks for sharing
Oh, the pulley bone!! My Cajun grandmother had chickens. When she cooked one, I as the baby of her 33 grandchildren, ALWAYS got it!!
You just opened up a whole lot of precious memories with that!
This is the best stress reliever ever 😊 thank you for the support ❤
Dang I'm not even a fan of pot pies but this looks amazing. Good to see ya Kent and yes, I remember the ole wishbone.
Kent, you are too funny, and you cook with such ease, thank you for not just making our souls smile, but our taste buds are alive, the simple rustic way you cook is awesome, thank you for entertaining us, we love ya
We were poor.. Mom always left the neck and back on. Thats what she ate. She said it was the best!
I wish she were still here to eat with Little man
I hate to tell you, but your mama was depriving herself to feed the rest of y’all. There’s very little meat on that back and on that neck you had a good kind loving mother apparently.
@@kathrynphipps2529 she did.
God bless you Shan and all the hounds!! I have got to cook this one!! God bless, stay safe and stay healthy!!
Marie Callender pot pies are not really all that good in my opinion. Thank you for putting this out.
Frozen food section pot pies are the reason I hate them. Homemade pot pies are the reason I'm more willing to give it a chance.
Pulley bone was my older brother and my favorite thing on Sundays, back in the early 60s....many years later my husband and I were making a wish on the ( wish) pulley bone and our grandkids didn't have a clue... thanks for the memories ❣️
