OMG Eric I am so sorry. I have watched that many SR videos so far that I forgot all about this one I’d seen previously. This is exactly the type of detailed video I was talking about in my last communication to you. This is perfect and helps me understand my many questions. Thank you again and apologies for not checking. Rgds Col
Col thanks for looking back into the archives! ;) This is the video that I was looking to do a updates video on to make it more current and then work it into a new series... so we will see! I'm so glad this video answered your question! Thanks for your persistence, be encouraged and keep going, your going to get where you want to go... I know it! :) Have a good day mate! :) #Heart
I bought a Dovo Solingen made in Germany. I like it a lot, but I'm not very good with it yet. I also bought a wide strop. I think this helps to not cut it.
Hello ! I'm about to start with 2 gold dollars. But will send one to my son while he is on his 4th deployment. I showed him a couple of your videos and he wants to start also. He went to DE's after having the same problem as me with the disposable stuff. Burn bumps etc but worse being in the service and having to shave daily. Thanks for all your info and keep it up.
Chris thank you son for me for his service to our great country! ;) Gold Dollar's are a good place to start straight razor shaving. Thanks for your great comment and for your encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Have a good day! :) #Heart
Thanks for watching and the great comments! I really enjoy my razors and i'm happy that you like them as well. I'm so glad this video is helpful. This is the kind of information I would have liked to have in the beginning when I started straight razor shaving. I have more coming soon, thanks again! :)
+allyourbase I found my "ZY 6/8" Straight Razor Shave Ready Extra Sharp + Brown Real Leather Pouch Holder" on eBay here's a link to the same seller I got mine from www.ebay.com/itm/ZY-6-8-Straight-Razor-Shave-Ready-Extra-Sharp-Brown-Real-Leather-Pouch-Holder-/401026711917?hash=item5d5f0e016d. Hopefully you will find this helpful, thanks for watching! :)
P. Rob most people like the Full Hollow for straight razors shaving and they are the easiest to find as well. In all reality Full Hollow SR's are fine and will give you a great shave. I've found the 1/4 Hollows and Near Wedges to be the most comfortable and most forgiving SR's to shave with. Where the Extra Hollow SR's for me are the least forgiving SR's to shave with and the hardest to use. Hope that's helpful my friend. If you have more questions and would like me to show what I'm talking about in a video... leave all your questions and I'll see what I can do for you to help make the information more clear. Thanks for your great comments and thanks for watching my friend! :) #Heart
@@AdventuresInWetShaving im looking at mine and I honestly don't know how to get an eye for seeing what the blade is it is a buckshot 10 inch SR a know anything about them? It China 440 stainless steel ND actually heavy that's all I know?
P. Rob everything I'm seeing says it's a pocket knife in the shape of a straight razor, but it does appear to be a full hollow from what I can see. #Heart
Great video, loved the info and presentation! The STALLION sent me a honed GD to 'cut my teeth on' and its amazing, but its taking me time get get the muscle memory and comfort Im used to over an idiotproof DE.
Yes it does take some time, but stick with it and it will come. When I started I found that if I worked on one section of my face at a time that worked the best. Shave one section and finish with your DE and do that for several days. Then you can add on another section of your face, but start with a section that is easy for you to master and it could be just one cheek at a time. There is no rush this should be fun and enjoyable, so take your time and enjoy the ride. Please let me know how you are getting on with your straight razor shaving, thanks for watching and the comment! :)

Adventures In Wet Shaving would like to know a good straight razer to get for my first one ..one that would last me and not over priced like a good manufacturer and model ? And yes ur video is good learning from

I so wish I had watched this video earlier. Great information. I’ve been looking at the wrong razors for the wrong reasons. I wear a well groomed and shaped beard and shave only neck and cheeks. I’ve been wondering if a shorter blade would make my cheeks easier or should I just learn to control my razor better? I seem to be drawn to barbers notches, big blades, a little smile, framebacks, grooved blades, extra hollow ground (newbie) I think I’ll re Focus my search to a wedge razor. I have a friend who loves his. And give that a try. I’m watching some W&B’s etc. I’ll need to learn to better identify a wedge.
Scott that's a great question! :) About the only way to get a shorter blade would be to try a shavette in my "Best How to Shave with a Straight Razor Tutorial for Beginners". I do use a Parker SRB to show how to shave with it here's the link bit.ly/2GYaWIA please let me know if it's helpful. I really do find shaving with a 1/4 hollow to a near wedge is the most comfortable. Two of my favorite straight razors (I do have a lot of favorites) are a smaller Thiers Issard 1/4 hollow which you could see in action here bit.ly/2GTIjw9 and the other one is my larger Wade & Butcher smiling blade near wedge which you can see in the "Best How to Shave with a SR..." mentioned earlier. I do enjoy both of these straight razors. :) If it were me I would learn how to control the straight razor better, with time it will get easier. But if you want to try the Parker shavette I would suggest looking at the Parker SRX with it's all SS construction will be heavier (more like a straight razor) then the Parker SRB but there is a price difference. As far as how to ID a wedge or near wedge the best way is to see a profile from the end in a picture, other then that you would need to ask the seller. Scott hopefully that's helpful, please let me know if you have any other questions my friend! Thanks for the great questions and thanks for watching! :)
Hi Eric. The Wade and Butcher looks awesome, I have seen several on ebay and they are expensive, would you say they are worth the 2/300 dollar price tag.
Great question Alpha621! ;) I haven't spend that much for a Wade and Butcher or any other straight razor to date. Keep an eye out and you'll find something between $70-$170 USD! ;) Wade and Butchers I have are awesome and the "For Gentlemens Use" is my absolute favorite! Thanks for your great question and thanks for watching! :) Have a good week and take care my friend! :) #Heart
Hi Eric! Thank you for your information. Like another commenter on this video, I purchased a DOVO 5/8 as my first Straight Razor which came sharp but felt a little “grabby” to my inexperienced opinion. I have purchased honing stones (1k, 5k, 8k, 10k and 12k) and want to start learning the art of honing but don’t really want to experiment with my DOVO so I purchased a Gold Dollar 66 to “learn on”. My question: Do I need to make any alterations to the toe or shoulder before it will take a good edge like you have done on your Gold Dollar? Thank you for your help in advance Eric!

after the razor honed on the finishing stone can i strop it on leather strop that has no micron paste and test shave? is the shave is better if i strop it on micron paste and then the leather strop?
Agar another great question! ;) Yes, you can go straight from the finishing stone to smooth leather and do 60 laps on your strop and give it a test shave. If you want to try the pasted strop that will work as well, but the smooth leather only after your finishing stone of 12,000 to 15,000 grit will be fine. Please let me know how you get along and if you have any other questions. Thanks for your great questions and thanks for watching! :) #Heart

Great question J Dude! :) Here is how it shakes out the 11/16" is smaller then the 6/8" because the 6/8" is equal to 12/16" (so 12/16"=6/8"=3/4"). If you prefer bigger blades the smallest blade you should look at is a 13/16". Which if you buy a Gold Dollar or a ZY advertised at 6/8" it will measure to 13/16", but with that said. I would look for a 7/8" or a 15/16" wide straight razor they are a really good size for me... and if you can find an 8/8" or 9/8" that would work too. J Dude I hope that was helpful please let me know if you have any other questions. ;) Thanks for the great question and comment, and thanks for watching! :) #Heart

Hello. After watching your video a couple times, I have decided try a straight razor. I like the 1/4 hollow 7/8 but they seem to be difficult to find. I found a Hart Steel one, but I have been reading reviews that recent razors are not very good. Any suggestions? I would like to buy from an online shop that offers professional honing to make it shave ready. Everything seems to be 5/8 with full hollow or more out there. I am not necessarily looking for inexpensive in price.
I get most of my straight razors on eBay and many do come shave ready. But you could check out Lynn Abrams at straightrazordesigns dot com he may have some thing in the 7/8" blade size. Let me know how you make out. If I find some other places I will let you know. Thanks for watching Bumblesby! 👍🙂👍
