I had an ischemic stroke at 38 years old. I would have benefited greatly from a neuro psychologist. I wish that type of care was available to me.
Not a member of facebook but I'm a young survivor of stroke from 24 yrs ago when I was thirty and you're right, The lack of information was and still is, horrible. If I had known I had been having TIA's or even known what they were I would have went to the DR long before my aneurism and resulting stroke (meningioma was found to be the cause). How to tell a heart attack was all over TV but in 98 I don't even think they had the acronym FAST. Also post stroke care is minimum and before you know it you're on your own trying to figure out how to function in this world. Now losing some of what I got back both brain and body wise I'm hoping my brain is still plastic enough to improve slightly. I guess I could've joined a support group but I live in a rural area and there was no facebook. I'm also anti - antidepressants and wonder who sponsored that prozac study. Good wishes to all my brothers and sisters recovering today.

Thank you. I was astonished at the lack of information about stroke and young adults. I stroked at 38 years old from a pfo in the heart. 4 years on I'm still recovering but very slow. My outlook is positive and recovery chances are positive from my stroke team..
I also had a stroke at 38 years old due to pfo. I had the hole closed. I am now 55 yo.
Keep on keeping on us what I just had to start doing and thinking and it’s not even been 3 months for me.

I’m so glad I found you on here! Your so right there is not a whole lot of information out here. I had a tumor removed from the center of my brain. 10/20/23 that night after the surgery I suffered a hemmograic Stroke from a brain bleed. And please forgive me if I miss speeck or this does not make sense. I don’t have to much memory from when this all happened. It was a meneinganoma the size of a golf ball between my hemispheres and the main Falx line was in the center of the tumor as well.
Well I now have right frontal lobe damage due to all of this and have had to learn to walk and talk again. You have given me the hope I needed. I have been so frustrated this past 2 weeks with my therapy mostly the insurance company mainly though. I was getting in home therapy and now they are taking it away from me and I have gotten it in my head so how that GREAT IM A BE LIKE THIS FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE? NOOO I CANT DO THIS THEN AND I AM DONE BUT AFTER WATCHING YOUR NUROPLASTISIY VIDEO ON YOU TUBE I HAVE A BETTER FEELING AND additude and want to do this rewiring again. You are a awesome person and I thank you so much for taking your time and not charging fir your subscription and I look 4ward to watching all of your videos on TH-cam as soon as I can!!! I am sure you are very busy and I won’t hear from you. But do you offer advice per say and are you excepting new patients by chance? I am in VA BUT WILL COME SEE YOU IF I CAN.

@@khurramriaz1317yes. My right hand wouldn't flex after but a year and half later with physical therapy I can use it almost like normal.
I just don't have the same strength and fine motor skills.
One of the clearest information delivered with good diction and speed. However, I wish you can also tell those who find it very hard to sleep what pill is okay to recover from lost sleep. Are Ambien and Xanax okay to take occasionally?
I developed a stroke from covid 4/22. I don't know when it happened even though I am n a field that should help me to determine that. My weakness in the upper and lower extremity was gradual. I am still able to lift my arm but lost at least 50% of the strength of my hand, fingers, pinch, coordination, and slight foot drop. Thank you for your info.
The neuro rehab I work at utilizes neuropsychologists, its super helpful.
I'm a stroke victim inter alia. I had stroke about 2021 and was hospitalised twice; with Congestive Heart Failure as well. I have hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus II.
Dr. Sullivan...you are AMAZING!!!!! I watched this while I did home my at-home exercises. Four weeks ago (Christmas morning!) I had a stroke. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!

Fatigue is a huge issue. Frustration a bit overwhelming.
I get frustrated as well it just seems the more time that goes by the slower it’s going or is this just me?😮

Thank you so much for this video you’re probably the first person I feel that actually gets it 🥺i had a stroke in 2019 and no one in my life was prepared for the entirety that came with my recovery not only that but Ike you said no one sees how much we go through 🥺the only way I made it through was by removing everyone from my life because no one was understanding that I was completely different it wasn’t just my brain it was all of me
They all kept getting offended by me that o kept beating myself up inside until finally I just let them all go because I couldn’t take any extra hurt I already had enough with myself and I completely agree with you as far as massage therapy because my body still hurts to this day-I don’t know a day without pain 🥲😳🥺
What wonderful information. My stoke caused my left eye to freeze and will not move to the left. Had to get special glasses. It’s a long story. I really enjoyed her videos, and will be with her always.. thanks soooooo much Dr. 🌺

Thankyou so much dr Sullivan. I had brain haemorrhage & craniotomy 5yrs ago & I still dont know much about it. I'm only just being aware enough to try get help for myself. I never got any rehab , psychologist or any help so much confusion & struggle still will fatigue cognition etc. I'm in nz

Thank you… although I am surrounded by people who love me, it has been a very lonely existence since my bilateral RCVS in February. You’re fabulous at getting the salient points across and I plan on sharing this video with my intensivist father as well as my (non-medical) lay people family members… I hope it will give them perspective… I am A LOT! Right now, and not a bundle of chuckles!

Thank you I cannot tell you how I appreciate this. I had a bilateral stroke left frontal lobe is an ischemic stroke. I got it 13 months ago from covid. 6 months ago, I had a brain seizure, and blacked out. However, I'm doing great, yet I'm speaking in steps. And concerned that it will stay long-term it's been about 14 months. I'm giving effort where it counts, exercises, tongue exercises, relearning. but you gave me hearing it's going to take a while and I have hope. Yet I'm I'm sure about the medications my neurologist has me on lamotrigine 100 mg. I just don't know about that thank you for your time

Your thoughts on adding acupuncture into the mix for TIA stroke recovery?
I am 55 and my new cardiologist said I had a tia about a year ago, when my symptoms got worse. He found a PFO with a Bubble test a couple months ago. What do you think?
Ty for this. My 82 year old aunt recently had a stroke. Physically she seems ok. No loss of movement, and her speech is fine. But she has a couple of other problems. Her MRI showed rear quadrant brain damage. She cant read anything at present, cant recognise letters, shes lost most of her peripheral vision, and her optitiwn says shes now dyslexic. On top of this, and possibly as a direct result of her not taking her medication regularly, her blood pressure was through the roof. She had a car accident around the time of the stroke, not sure if it was due to the stroke or if the stroke came first. She can remember things perfectly well from 30 years ago, knows who everyone is, knows what's happened to her and she knows her mental faculties are not what they were. I was wondering if there is anything we can do to help her with learning to read again? She seems more confused and afraid in the morning.
My daughter had a stroke in the basal ganglia due to meningitis will you book be beneficial for her? she is almost 3 had the stroke 4 months ago.
My wife needs your help . Her situation seems unique. Please reach out if that’s possible. They say TIA, but unsure of the cause. Confusion on speech and hard time writing words on paper. Her physical health is great. She did well on all of the testing. GP said maybe atrial fibrillation, but there is no hole in her heart. She’s always better after a good sleep. Please help…

What should someone who is approaching 3 months post stroke focus on most? Balance seems to be the most effected currently
Sounds like me, l sleep well now, mostly find correct words and can say them. My right hand can now move and hold eating utensils, but don’t have strength. Have to use a walker, not for walking, but balance. My stroke was 3 months ago.

Hi thanks for nice video I heard that doctors say that neuroplasticity stops after 6 months post stroke something critical window kind of thing I had stroke 7 months ago my left hand and is having defecit do I have hope for recovery and until how long I am 34 years old my whole life is upside down after stroke pls help I have no fine skills of my left hand
No. It does not stop as long as you keep at it ..
My niece had a stroke on March 10 2024. She turned 42 on March 10. She is still in the hospital. They want us to put her on hospice and just let her die bc she has gotten bacterial meningitis besides the brain bleed due to stroke. Her left side doesn't move but it has started moving more than before she even wiggled her toes. She can't see too well and her memory is affected as well. I believe that they just want us to give up on her she is very strong and I feel with the right care she could possibly recover fully and we shouldn't just give up on her. Do you have any suggestions for her where we could try to get the help she needs please we know they are so wrong. Thank you in advance

thedoctor that handle seems to dont want toshare infoikeep asking.she dont event let me see my angiogram. made me return for consultation only to repeat at their question whenthe stroke happen nothing for recovery so annoying. been 3 weeks just trying to do what i can do by my self
