This has to be one of my favorite new videos on youtube. This was absolutely fascinating and so enjoyable. The combination of the sights, your expert commentary, and soothing voice made this amazing. Please let this be a series! Thank you sonmuch for sharing your knowledge!
An absolutely fantastic video from both, a well informed narrative and video quality perspective. Thank you VERY, VERY much for this post and please keep them coming, if possible!!!!!
I'm a retired LIRR Conductor 1999. I must say things have changed so much . As for this video, I totally enjoyed it. The commentary was so informative and easy to listen to. Great job. Thank you for sharing.
Hey thanks for the videos! Watched a couple with my father who is a retired condcuctor who worked on the LIRR for 26 years. He was leaving when the M3s were out. I remember going to work with him and sitting in the cabs while he collected the tickets. Going to trainmens room with him. Good times.
@@ariesarethebest271 Everything clicked. I gave the friendly engineer my TH-cam channel and told him to watch out for this video and that he wouldn’t be disappointed.
Thanks so much!!! So happy to see more work with the Harold rebuild and all the new high speed turnouts, and the westbound Amtrak Harold bypass (planned to be open in 2024, and so far seems to be on time)
BRO!!!!!!!! If I was there today at ronkonama railfaning if I would have stayed there a little longer I would’ve have seen u today 😭but at least I got a shave and a haircut from a M7:)
Let me add my 2 cents-ok. The M3'S AND THE M2'S ARE THE BEST LOOKING MU'S IN THE COUNTRY!!! THEY ALWAYS WERE!!! HELLO!!! From what i was told the Metropolitans won an award for their design, when they first came out in mint condition in the late 1960's!!! And dont forget the bells and whistles that came with them, that added all the more flavour to them. They even had door closing chimes!!! WOW!!! THEY'RE just the best out there , as long as the ace mechanics keep them up!!! THEY'RE EYE PLEASERS!!!! Earl of El Barrio,NYC,NY. 1:16 AM 8/16/23
Thanks for the ride. FYI, the over-crossings in Hicksville are (West to East) Jerusalem Avenue and Broadway (or at least they were 60 years ago.) Great video!!!!!!!
The fatal mishap at Herricks Road involved the daughter of a County legislator and her friends trying to beat the train at a crossing. As I recall, the gates were down, lights flashing, and the train had already sounded the horn once, meaning only about ten seconds remained before the train hit the crossing. The driver (it might have been the daughter herself; I forget) went around the gates anyway. The train was running express, so 70-80 mph, and destroyed the van and everyone in it. That Nassau legislator then rammed through extra money in the budget to build the underpass.
The canopy to the station was still there during my time working at PPC, and I used to take clients to the Deer Park DSS which is not far from the station.
Planning on Caltrain extravaganza in October. Hope to get plenty of RFW’s with a lot more info given than on many of the previous Caltrain RFW’s already posted by others. Many of which are very good.
Very well-done video, and a great running commentary! Learned a lot about the LIRR from your info. I remember the little brick station at KO, and the depot at Peconic (NC). The LIRR sure has changed since the mid 1960's!
Would love to get to ride an M3 again guess they're only used for Rush Hour trains into and out of Penn I rarely see them on the app during off peak hours
Pretty cool video, Tim. That day I was railfanning Metro North at Croton Harmon and Cold Spring. I rode train 737, the 2:20pm train out of Grand Central Terminal which had M3A’s. Stayed at Croton Harmon a bit then went to Cold Spring then back to Grand Central. I heard that Metro North is gonna have a Conrail heritage unit- P32ACDM 201 soon!!!!!!!
This was great, Thank You!! Your narration well explains what we’re seeing. Being a Subway fan from Bergen County, I never really was interested in NYC Commuter rail. The LIRR (and the rest) is new territory for me. Long Island too; going there is a rarity, and a treat - comparing how things look to what I’m accustomed to.
@ Retired Railfan Horn Guy: Great video, as always! Do you know what the occasional bell rings are about? Does the bell ring every so often to test the alertness of the engineer who, when he hears the bell, has 15 seconds to press a button to signal he/she is alert and in full command of their train - or, failing a response, the train automatically comes to a full stop?
Thanks for the video. I grew up in Brentwood, about 2 miles north of the Brentwood Rd crossing off of Washington Ave. I left LI in 1979, came back for a visit in '87, haven't been back since. Brentwood, especially, has changed a lot, I remember Brentwood station being on the other side of the crossing. I have a picture from an LI calendar showing a steam engine crossing Brentwood Rd., one track and no crossing gates, no idea what the year was.😃
Awesome! Rode Babylon Branch for too many years and so remember that 'half seat'/jump seat - - the conductor would be pissed that I'd take, (and I'm tall too) for that best-view-ever (except the window was always dirty). PS So glad I moved to North Jersey 10 years ago 🤣🤣🤣
I’m hoping that you can pool your resources and determine where the old Grumman station was on this line. I like identifying the spaces where old stations used to be. Hope you can do this. 👍🏽✌🏾
I would love it if you shared the speed the train is running at sometimes. My dad is a retired freight railroad engineer and I grew up hearing about how different speeds were on different routes.
On that one map they released on their 50th Anniversary for Amtrak's vision for ~2030 there was a line to Ronkonkoma but it is simply talk for the time being
@@NERJ607 Oh ok so I wasn’t wrong I did saw on Wiki about the Ronkonkoma Branch and I saw Northeast Regional Amtrak and that got me curious whether I was right or wrong
@@jackslc01 Yeah, It's a concept that Amtrak has been wanting to do for a long time now. I believe they will be branded as Northeast regionals which will run through NYP similar to Springfield, MA regionals

The former company I worked for delivered to that Sysco facility in Central Islip
Ngl, for the type of place Wyadnanch is, the train station is surprisingly nice

why do they constantly ring bells?
Speed restrictions
Wasn’t the overpass was the old Bay Ridge branch of the LiRR?
Further down. It was NH there

No idea why
Has there been any reports on the derailment a couple of weeks ago?
RR. Is the Jamaica station the biggest/busiest station on the line? Nice video.

In terms of passenger numbers Jamaica takes the crown hands down, but by train numbers passing through it Woodside probably wins.
