Thanks for a great video! It touches on a current topic here in Denmark, where I live. Repair instead of throwing out and buying new, and save the earth's resources 😉👍🏻
My Skil saw is over 50 and still cuts as good as the day it was new, true I've had to replace the cord, the original rubber was not solar resistant, we truly do not make tools to last like we used to.
I bought the 921 after you talked about it. It hasn’t given me any issues so far and after the new m12 has shown battery drain issues I’ll likely keep using it till it dies.
My 921 needed the whole electronics package (motor, board, trigger, etc) replaced because it would randomly just freeze up like software was locking up or something. I found a few other people complaining, dewalt sent me a new battery, but didn't seem too interested in getting it fixed under warranty letting me know if I sent it in and they couldn't duplicate the issue that I'd have to pay shipping and processing. They suggested a service center, 45 minute one way drive and with limited hours. So I ponied up $90, bought the guts, and did it myself then sold it on to a co-worker for $90, got myself an open box 921 for $120. Both have been working fine so I think it was an early build issue. Other than being dirty inside the 921 looked fine.
I'm personally quite glad it is serving you so well. I got one last year when I started developing a personality and deciding to start acquiring tools to use for . . . well, everything. I absolutely adore it, enough so that I went out of my way to get a second just for the hell of it. It cant do _everything,_ but it's made my life a lot easier being so compact and easy to handle; it can go everywhere and puts out an astonishing amount of power for how small it is. The only thing I've found that seems to wear out way too soon on the various DeWalt tools I've gotten (this, the DCF850, all the drills I have) is the directional toggle switch can start getting clogged with gunk/stopped up and/or deformed from use. Fortunately they're a small enough part it's easy to fix, but it's still annoying.
I had a crew of 6 using DeWalt impact drivers and drills for over a year of constant use. DeWalt performed flawlessly except for a couple of battery issues.
As a DeWalt man my self Im a transmission mechanic I bought the new m12 it has Good power but the mood selection for power is aggravating lol that just my opinion dcf923 definitely my choice I've had mine for 1 to year and half its a beast
Nothing more durable than a dewalt. My father's mechanic shop has a decade old pit impact that's been covered in used oil more times than anyone knows. And we also remodeled a duplex including floor joists, with a dewalt. Dust, dirt, abusive physical impacts, foreign liquids. Nothing will kill it.
I’m rocking the DeWalt Impact Driver (DCS885) and Drill/Driver/Hammerdrill (DCD985). The batteries are close to 5 years old now and they work like-new. Smart batteries with the power-level check button on the back of each one. I’ve used Mikita drills previously, but they do not even compare to these robust DeWalts! Great review! I’d be worried about taking mine apart! 😂
The only thing you missed😊😊 after you replace the hammer thus making it function like brand new was scrubbing down the plastic parts and making them look like brand new again
My husband has a a few of these , the atomic 20v , the stubby and the single speed one, he says the cheap one has held up the best despite the fact he often uses it as a hammer
Oooh. I was trying to figure out what where that left-over washer came from. Finally rewatched the early sped up disassembly at 25% speed, and saw that you took it off your finger 😂
I’m the same way on using chrome sockets, the lug nut holes on a lot of wheels are so tight my impact sockets get stuck, the thin wall of the chrome sockets just easier.
If a mechanic can use one every single day and push it to its limits. Then I am happy to know that mine should last me forever since I only fix things on my truck when it breaks down 🤣
I know this is an older video, but can you review the difference between a 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 and see what's best for an average Joe to use around the house and in their car? Thanks.
The DCF922 is the same impact as the 921/923 but with a half in detent that might be easy to repeat what you just did and swap that in. I know in your original 923 video you explained you preferred the 3/8 anvil but if that has at all changed and the detent is preferred that much you could try making another one switching and comparing
I'm wonder what';s supposed to keep the sockets on. My socket sets have a spring loaded ball-bearing and detent/groove that retains the sockets. You spin the old and new anvil/drive implement and i don't see any sort of retention other than.. a possible small magnet on the end?
I dont know in the US but here in Canada you can get a M12 Stubby Gen 2 with a 5 am high output for 348 CAD ($250) which is a lot easier on the wallet.
@@FunkFPV I feel you, I currently have the 921 because of the handle and buttons but the M12 stubby bolt mode looks way better. The 921 barely slow downs when removing lug nuts. I might get the M12 just to compare. (I also managed to get 2 x 1.7 powerstack for 50 CAD after reselling the free tool 😂)
They have cheaper ones now that do 700 nm of torque, I got one, it pulld a the axl nut of my subaru forester with ease,,, I dont think I would tighten much with for fear of skinning the thread.
Yo how much are you making ballpark as a feild mechanic, im a dealer tech and hate it. Got any advice? I have 8 years dealer experience. Also like your videos bro keep up the good work
So real question on the chrome vs impact socket debate, I've never really felt the difference, but is it generally better to use impacts when you can? I've never had a chrome socket split on me.
Looks like as shown by this vid a quality chrome socket main concern is wearing out the anvil. As for impact sockets its been proven that more mass transmits higher torque up to a point, but for smaller fasteners it doesn’t really matter until ya dealing with rust and stuff. For me I like having both so i don’t have to swap between my ratchets or when i dont feel like pulling out the impact just carry the ratchet and lighter chrome sockets
I’ve never even cracked chrome socket with an impact. Impact sockets do hit harder but you only notice it on the extreme end from my experience. All said and done, it’s better to use impact sockets with an impact gun but it’s the end of the world if you don’t when it comes to light duty work.
@@piciu256 my understanding is that the start-up is a more intense pull, whereas maintaining the motor running is using less power? The capacitor in this scenario would act as a buffer for the battery.

The problem with dewalt is QC and service. Their batteries have a severe widespread issue with dying, and it took me somewhere around two YEARS of daily harassment on every social media account they have to actually get them to honor their warranty on a DOA flexvolt battery.
I had the opposite of that experience. Had 2 dead 5ah batteries from a 2020 kit that was never opened. Went to the site, filled out the warranty form, they asked for date code pics of the batteries. 2 days later asked me to confirm shipping address, 2 days after that they sent tracking info, 4 days later 2 brand new batts on the door step. Mr Funk, do you own DCF900 & DCF891? If you did, is there any problems with it? Like wobbly loose battery connection (like Milwaukee), sheared off planetary gear(seen it some where on TH-cam channel, happens to DCF891)...etc. Planning to buy both of this model....
I have the older 1/2 brushless Impact that I can’t remember the model number. I’ve been running that one for a few years and it hasn’t given me any problems. I’ve heard the 2 you’re talking about are beasts. Most of the problems you’re talking about aren’t a DeWalt thing. The planetary are always double mount and their batteries are solid.
I got the LTT precision driver set coming tomorrow. 😜👍🏻 If it’s just the chuck that’s causing the wobble it’s an easy fix. Just remember the screw in the bottom of the chuck is reverse threads. You shouldn’t even need to take the drill apart. The only problem is drills are cheap and chucks are expensive. It might be cheaper to just replace it.
@@FunkFPV Awesome, been wanting that one, my ifixit also got crooked😂. Ah, that's too bad. Oh well, I was planning on buying one of their big sets they discount around Christmas, they're better value but they always got the drill/impact, like... After 2 to 3 years I just buy a new tool. The trigger is always messed up, dewalt triggers cost almost as much as the brand new tool. So buy a new tool
The problem is your can’t just buy the trigger. You have to get basically all the electronics that are hooked up to it. I guess they don’t trust people to solder them.
