Okay, I just realized one of the reasons your videos are so good and entertaining: you tell a classic story. At first you demonstrate the problem by turning on the tool. Then you take us through the story of figuring out what's wrong and fixing it while adding in vignettes and anecdotes. Lastly you build tension by saying, "but will she run?" and then, of course she does, "that's her!", and everyone lives happily ever after (unless you're a DeWalt tool that only needs a controller).

WoW, So many DeWalt's. Love the video as always. Specially the Planer as that's the one i have. Give's me something to do on the next rainy day, To check the bearing in the plastic housing. Thanks again for the content.
Dean don't throw the plastic housing, you can use that plastic for melting it with the original to fix cracks, or broken parts, and you can build the wall that was melted.
Tools are becoming just like new cars every year they get more and more complicated. The throwaway society is becoming even more ridiculous. Why can’t things just be simple. The old simple tools lasted a whole lot longer than.
Yes they are got adapter for my old nicad DeWalt tools to use new lithium on them after bad experience with new tools to my surprise they are better than the new tools with lithium batteries on them give it a shot if u have old nicad tools best built tools ever made but electric tools and air tools hold up much better
I've had an idea you could try with the DeWalt planers. Open up the bearing retainer socket in the housing with an end mill in the drill press. Shim the hole with a piece of pvc pipe. Then, recut the pvc to fit the bearing. The bearing retainer socket has a hole in the center, which makes it easy to locate.
13:00 - when working one-handed, I turn the toolholder so it's facing downwards, then I pull the sleeve forwards. good old gravity drops the bit into my tool pouch or my palm or my pocket. takes a bit of practice but sure as hell easier than screwing with two springs if things go wrong. that fancy feature is really just... a fancy feature =,=
This sounds like a great thing to refurbish the housing as it is a common point of failure on the dewalt planer: If you created a precise re-grinding tool (a kind of reamer with a extended aligning pin) to be able to self-align center by the remaining hole (there is a center hole that goes thru housing), you could regrind the hole precisely by 0.5 or 1 milimeter larger to fit a slightly larger bearing. There is more than enough plastic around the bearing, and maybe a larger bearing would also last slightly longer. All that matters is, that the bearing is centered properly, bearing size itself is not a important factor here.
You’ve not watched all of them then I guess. Dewalt makes good tools, they are more robust than Milwaukee, and many are better designed than Makita tools. Makita is falling into the same trap of not allowing each part to be replaced, but entire parts assemblies. Makita or dewalt tends to be the best for your money, but it is always tool specific. Dewalt drills are better, their new corded grinders are generally better too, Makitas old grinders, the ones with a ton of glass fibre in the plastic, those are amazing too, you can still buy them. Dewalt is a solid brand and the warranty and service in US and Canada is excellent. Makita market share is less here than in Europe. Milwaukee on the other hand is garbage.
Generally speaking, Makita is better quality and more repairable, but not by a lot, and as I said, some tools are actually worse. If you watch deans 100k sub special I’m pretty sure he outlines what Makita tools to avoid.
Brake Clean is so useful, the powerful spray makes it such a handy tool for cleaning/decreasing things. I always keep a few cans in the van and in the house.
Dewalt guys and their nail guns, I’ve got a fix if you put oil in them, strip brake clean, then get an old tyre and 40grit sand paper and make rubber dust, put that in your gun in small amounts run for few weeks then open and repeat once more same thing should sort it.
For transferring stickers a small heat gun works like magic to soften adhesives. I use the dewalt 20v but pretty much any will do just keep em low low, ive burnt/singed labels holding em too close. ~ Work smart 👌
Great job on them all! I’m just curious though, when reassembling the jig saw I did t see that housing gasket go back in place between the shells. Was it not needed or didn’t you film it? Anyway, thanks for taking us along once again, you’re a regular fountain of knowledge! 👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼
I like your work and how you explain everything. Thank you. Just one question. didn't you remove the gasket at 1:23:14, I didn't see you to install a new one. 🤔
I cannot fathom the mind of a man who doesn't clean out the shaving and sawdust from a baseplate before fitting it. I just could not do that, I would have to blow it out.
I am disappointed in my DeWalt tools, most of the batteries are not charging anymore and the tools are worn out and have some bad design issues so not spending money on new batteries. The planer chip port always clogs even after cutting away plastic and if I cut more the hose won't fit on any more, frustrating! Some of the chucks are not holding bits and need constant tightening. Batteries are loose and power cuts out. Not made to last!
For a normal man that uses tools once in awhile, does Makita or Dewalt make a good choice for a impact driver or a semi-pro tool like Einhell or Skill are good enough?
Makes me laugh when u have a dewalt planner in now because I remember when you didn’t check the blade holder and it went bang … you only do that once 😂🤣😂
We need to hit these companies where it hurts, if a tool is not economical to repair, then instead of replacing like with like, buy it from another manufacturer who respects their customers better, and let the old company know thats what you are going to do, you never know they might send you a replacement to keep your custom, or at the very least change their ways.
In fairness the parts might be in the expensive side but repaired most. My guess re planer, no one saw the bearing causing case issues therefore only loose blades smashing the whole housing, hence being able to buy the front assembly separately
That switch on the DeWalt router, a similar switch might be available from R.S components for a couple of quid. I got a high inrush one from rs to replace one on a TV.
Does Dewalt not have a factory service center in your area? Here in Canada we send some tools to the service center under their guaranteed repair cost. The Dcs391 you deemed not worth repairing is $83.00 to fix regardless of the problem
Not a bad fix score on all the Dewalts. On the mistery ball: it might have came from the impact piece. For example the bigger impact Makita drivers DTW1001 have a bunch of these balls in em. Don't know the deal on the Dewalt ones. But I do agree it rather had the size of a toolholder ball.
You would think that there would be more protection to the spindle bearings on a planer. Just looked up the parts diagram of the Makita one. Its the same, just bearings on a shaft. Should have at least an aditional washer on the shaft to act as a debris shield or a primitive labyrinth seal like ive seen on some Makita sanders. Its just a plastic washer with a deep groove on the shaft and a corresponding ring on the housing but works wonders to shield the bearing.
I'm still amazed by how the heck the first impact driver bit got so stuck on. of all of dean's many videos, this one single repair is the first that really made me go holy fecking sheeeeeet. all that trouble and time just because someone couldn't be bothered to wiggle the bit and make sure it was in properly. and how the heck did dewalt manage to make their impact drivers so damn complicated? do their engineers have to go through some sort of special training to make their machines so f*****ing weird? and I wonder what the turnover on their assembly lines is like. folks must be going nuts and quitting every week lol. I thank my lucky stars I happened to buy makita when I went cordless. Never had a fault that I couldn't repair myself using simple common sense. If I had gone dewalt, with the number of nuts I have to sink each day, fixing those things would have made my nuts go nuts.

104 dollars for that housing for electric hand planner is insane half the cost of the tool is plastic and glass outrageous price bet it don't cost DeWalt 15 bucks to make that housing

I was in a hurry on my mountain bike and I would say I was doing about 25 miles per hour when I hit a curb trying to get up on the sidewalk and off the street thinking I don't want to get hit by a car and I fell onto the concrete sidewalk.
