Suppose the CMOS / RTC (Real Time Clock) backup battery of a thinkpad fails. Will the BIOS complain about RTC or checksum error if the thinkpad is either constantly connected to either the AC power supply or the thinkpad's non-depleted main battery? I would assume that as long as the RTC is still powered by the AC power supply or the main battery, the BIOS wouldn't complain. The reason I ask is that I left a thinkpad in storage for a few years. The CMOS battery seems to be still powering the RTC, but I'm not keen on opening many things to replace it in case it fails. If there's an alarm about the CMOS battery dead every time I turn the thinkpad on even though there are alternative sources of power to keep the RTC alive, then that would really suck.
Hello, I didn't use my T440 laptop for 8 months. Now it displays that it not charging and powers of when I remove the AC adaptor. So, do I need to change the only external battery for T440? If so, do I have to open the whole laptop as demonstrated in the video?
Hi Mohammad. Thanks for reaching out to us. Try doing power drain first. Remove all peripheral devices connected to the laptop including the charger and the external battery then press and hold the power button for 15 seconds. Once done, plugged in the charger and just let the battery out and turn on the laptop. If the laptop turns on with only the charger then the external battery is defected and needs replacement. Let us know how it goes. Auxen_Lenovo

When I power on my Lenovo ThinkPad T440s, The external battery does show on my PC. Only the internal battery working. What could be the issue from the external battery? I tried using a brand new Battery but it still doesn't show on the PC. I have resetted the bios and all that but no solution yet.
Hi unokeraphael1701! Apologies for the trouble. Just to check, when did the problem start? Did you change any settings or install anything prior to that? Does the laptop still powering on while the charger is connected? If yes, does the laptop turn off automatically once you unplug the charger? Update us again. Thank you for reaching our support! -Chris_Lenovo
@LenovoSupport Yes my PC powers on with the internal battery working. My concern is the external battery not working on the PC. The external battery not working happened after the PC was disassembled by a technician. I don't know if the back up battery connector is not properly fixed or it's a software problem. How to disable internal battery if you cannot get a boot to BIOS? Trying the old, "pull battery/AC, push power button, plug AC & try to power-up" trick....Is it a "crack-open-case" situation?
If you are unable to get into the BIOS you can remove the bottom cover and disconnect the internal batter cable from the system board as shown in the video. It has the same effect, we just include it in the video in case users were unable to enter the BIOS, as in your case.

Hi TheSnoopdog14! Thanks for reaching out, and we hope you're doing well. When the issue started? Did you update any software or change any settings prior to this issue?
