‘Phantom Brickworks’ compiles tracks recorded over a ten year period, linked by their ability to evoke atmospheres of places with a hidden past.
“I don’t believe in ghosts but I do believe places can be haunted by meaning. Places change, not always for the better and not always by natural, benevolent or politically sound means. A place can be charged with atmosphere because of what it has been through or what it has been.
Phantom Brickworks is a collection of mostly improvised musical pieces, that for some years now, have provided me with a mental portal into places and times - some real, some imaginary, some a combination of both. Human beings are highly sensitive to the atmospheres of places, which can be enhanced or dramatically altered when you learn about the context of their history. Echoes and voices can sometimes be heard, in some way or another. Places sometimes have things to say.”

Best comment, if you know you know
Lovely to have Wales represented like this. Thanks Bibio.
there''s a story about capel celyn. it was a village in north wales that got flooded to create a reservoir for supplying liverpool with water. Plaid cymru tried to stop it but they couldn't. Exactly 40 years later, Liverpool City Council issued an apology for Tryweryn, stating: "We realise the hurt of 40 years ago when the Tryweryn Valley was transformed into a reservoir to help meet the water needs of Liverpool.
"For any insensitivity by our predecessor council at that time, we apologise and hope that the historic and sound relationship between Liverpool and Wales can be completely restored."
cofiwch dreweryn.
Buru Llwyd how long ago did that happen?

Andrew DeLong thanks Andrew.
Wow
Fantastic post. I wish more people would use the Comments sections for this sort of goodness.
Well I don't know about you guys, but I'm crying my eyes out how beautiful this song is.
This song is about a welsh village that was drowned in the 1960s to create a reservoir for Liverpool against the will of the village inhabitants and wales.
I like where he’s going. It’s where he’s at. It’s just a snapshot in an everlasting wave of time. I like the way this piece makes me feel. You can’t please fans, where’s the art in that?!. Someone will always compare and someone will always have attachments. This is perfect, in every way. Repeat.
Well said.
agreed!
Damn, that's a solid interpretation! "Just a snapshot in an everlasting wave of time." I don't know what to make of this composition, it's somehow haunting and calming at the same time.
This song puts me in a meditative state; feels like it gives me all the focus and peace in the world.

how u kno this?
At 35 years old, I never thought I'd hear a ambient record like I did when I was a kid listening to all those records that are now known classics. Thank you!
Pair the somber melody with the wonderful footage and the knowledge of the track's title.. makes for a beautiful and harrowing experience.
That shot of the submerged graveyard gave me actual chills..
*I like to imagine this is what a bears dream sounds like, deep in an abyss of 6 month sleep, hidden underground in their dark and dank cave den, a family of bears all warm together lay down, and this is what they hear.*
I keep somehow getting reminded of this track and coming back to this over and over again
my favourite bibio album ever since it came out
If they made a new Silent Hill game with Bibio producing the music, I'd be okay with that.
i was thinking this too!
bibio can do no wrong, the track goes perfectly with pictures don't they. the amazing underwater shot with the church and graves gave me the chillies
I totally understand why BoC are fans of Wilkinson’s work; it’s meditative, transcendental, and completely his own sound. Will be buying this LP for sure.
There is something profoundly unsettling about the first scene in this video. I believe it is because the camera height and FOV is roughly that of the human eye, making you feel as though you are truly in that setting moving towards the stairs. The feeling of no control, accompanied by this fantastic music makes for an incredible experience

Every now and then I come back here. Amazing piece. Guess I just found out another great artist.
I adore the last 3 minutes of this piece. The ghosts of time
I have been at this place many times. it's a weekday miners village in the electric mountain in snowdonia Wales, at least that's the thumbnail
Dinorwig
I first herd Bibio on Spotify and i have to say he’s one of the best No only does he sing but he played guitar, violin, piano and he also mixes all his own music and did i mention he’s one of the best musicians I’ve-ever heard
there's something so refreshing and damn alluring about impersonal music. the kind that doesn't feel made for you as much as it seems to have been transcribed by the artist, spoken to by something apparently beyond themselves, but also embedded in them. A sharp contrast to mainstream pop, caught up in interpersonal dramas and dramas of self (not to invalidate those dramas in general, buuuut...)
Well said
blissful. very william basinski-like.
Intellectually refreshing, totally aligned with Squarepusher and Aphex Twin ambient styles. Bravo.
After so many years I am going to retract my words: what a beautiful tune you managed to extract while living in a cold & war-torn world. That takes a lot of spiritual skill to accomplish. Congratulations!
it's a gift. visually and musically
When you first hear a Bibio track:
How could anyone Play the same notes for 10 or 15 minutes?
After the first song:
How do I set this to loop forever?
Human brains like repetition
Steve Roach or William Basinski besides others have done similar minimalistic ambient tracks...Thom Brannan...so much incredible ambient music out there these days. Reminds me of Also Die
Sometimes this one hits me more than anything in SAWII did.
Its amazing how well this song correlates to the video and the description
Gorgeous song. Gorgeous filming.
one of the finest records of the year, hands down
Masterpiece..
I couldn't believe it the beginning that Bibio released an ambient album.
I am fond of the ambient music and also it is my choice of creation most of the time in my home studio. I just had a good rehearsing of the album the previous Sunday. It is stunning.
I am a fan of Bibio for years and I support the opinion of embracing his every work because he is an excellent musician and he never did bad/shit music.
If some of you guys do not like ambient.. Then the game is lost.
The vibe is surreal
A truly beautiful video to accompany the interesting music.
Peace
a beautiful track that doesn't sound like a regular bibio track! gorgeous!
Incredible location.
Oh, you're here

Hhhh this descriptionn I can totally feel it, I dont even have the words to describe this piece of art.
Avete un clima meraviglioso, campagne e paesaggi da capogiro, una moneta tutta vostra. Vi invidio.....
the track and the video, absolutely perfect.
Favorite song of the album.
This is probably because I've been playing too much of it lately - but the buildings and landscapes gave me a strong Dark Souls vibe. Some of the shots are a perfect realisation of the world. Beautiful stuff.
song and architecture has a very ds1 vibe
Ico vibe to me.
Praise the Sun! Therefore, try finger
why is dark souls the only game anyone has played in 2017
99tropix nicely put 👌
Bibio is a brilliant story teller able to capture snapshots and moments that will stay with you forever 😔
Beautifully shot. Been loving this album and all of your other work Bibio! Come to the US!
simply stunning
Wow that old mine is stunningly beautiful. Just like this chilled track
wonderful visually and audibly. beautiful ,haunting. memories, dreams, deja vu....we are more than we know
basinski x tarkovsky
I never even made the connection to Tarkovsky, wow I totally see it !
Thank you for this moment.
Sos el sinónimo de arte, nunca pares.
A timeless work by Bibio.Nothing needed in addition.
Wow this is so beautiful.
In everyway
Loving the Basinski vibe
Are you talking about the 'Stone tape theory' by any chance. This music brings the atmosphere out of the visuals of old places perfectly. You can almost feel it, even by not being there. OLD buildings do store amounts of energy up, over the decades, soaked in emotion.
SAWII must be like "FINALLY. A WORTHY OPPONENT, OUR BATTLE WILL BE LEGENDARY!' xD
Warp simply won't release one single bad thing.. Ever
make me human again
Thank you, I enjoyed it very much.
Nice atmosphere, the music and the visuals.
awesome. wish it was in 4K.
Bibio this is a masterpiece, I love you
The life is a symphony no limit !!!
William Basinski.
very beautiful, thanks
Absolutely incredible.
I like how the ending of Capel Celyn is like it's own prelude to Phantom Bricks in a way
Capel Celyn was a welsh village that was drowned in the 1960s to create a reservoir for Liverpool against the will of the village inhabitants and wales.
The Capel Celyn (Celyn chapel) that the Village was named after was knocked down and it’s bricks were reused to create a memorial chapel nearby.
i was sold on the 3sec youtube preview.
brickworks is a godlike record. hoping he pursues this style for a bit longer.
This is just like passing away after a poisoned kiss, gently.
"Inside Deep Beautiful ~ Bringing This World Alive"
very Boardsy... loving it
So amazing, Bibio is a master of ambient
Excellent video.
wouhou a new bibio, so excited
Anyone who doesn't know the story - check it here en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capel_Celyn Great psychogeographic concept. I love this type of music and had no idea Bibio would be able to do it so well. I knew the story of Capel Celyn before, and found this song by searching it idly on my phone. Afterwards, I drove from London to Capel Celyn - now Lyn Celyn - and blasted this from the car the whole way. I knew the whole story and had heard some people describe it as peaceful - what a joke. I ran into a slightly odd old guy there. I pissed in the reservoir. The truth is - that place is crackling with a sad, dark energy.
I cry everytime
🤝
This reminds me somewhat of Popol Vuh's soundtrack for Aguirre.
A fine art piece by Bibio
Kawał dobrej muzyki i obrazu.
Thanks for making music hermano!
Massive 'off the grid' Respect
stunning photos :O
amazing textures
track strongly feels like rhubarb by aphex twin
it's rhubarb's sillage
I was thinking of this th-cam.com/video/ObdZ8lhC0f0/w-d-xo.html
Pretty sure Aphex twin grew up in Cornwall.
!!!
Sean same universe
I fuck with this heavy. Good looks Bibio.
Foreboding beauty.
Everything Bibio does is fucking gorgeous
This is proper spooky.
i love bibio
Looks like the various abandoned slate mines around Blaenau and the Croesor valley.
His music in the last few years has really reminded me of the game The Witness.
Feels like a vr journey guided by Millais on his way to paint Ophelia

Hermoso track 💙
Looks like i'm listening to the song of Aphex Twin - Rhubarb !!!
Masterpiece
this reminds me of p.v. so good!
Seems like Stephen Wilkinson is a talented filmmaker as well. Does anybody know how he was able to shoot this?
great track
Amazing
4:18 what is that red light?
Some William Basinski vibe here...
3:56 is this in wales? I’m sure I’ve been here
See: Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino
What's the correlation between that and this video?
I thought this was made with Unity at the start! Real life and what we can simulate on screen are becoming the same.
