  • The Waltham transmitting station (TV and Radio broadcast tower) is located in Waltham-On-The-Wolds, Leicestershire, England.
It is one of five main UHF transmitters serving the Midlands and amongst them it features the tallest transmission mast at a mighty 315 metres (1,033 ft).
Transmitting on UHF between 1,400 and 50,000 watts. Broadcasting Digital terrestrial and non terrestrial television, 4G and other platforms across the East Midlands.
(Note: There are some blank segments in this video, I'm not sure what's causing this)

Back in 90s, in the analouge tv signal days. Its signal use to make it out as far as Dordon, near Tamworth.Staffs .Fair old distance really. Been past the transmitter traveling up that way to Skeggy. Like the video. 👍

I remember when it was nearly completed in 1965 the mast blew down in a storm which delayed the introduction date of BBC2 TV in most of Nottingham and the East Midlands. It was found that these hollow masts could oscillate in certain weather conditions. Emley Moor tubular mast also collapsed in 1969. Heavy metal chains were hung on the inside to cure the problem at Waltham. Emley was rebuilt as a concrete structure.

In the analogue days, Birmingham New St station staff messroom TV got pictures from Waltham because the City centre buildings caused horrendous ghosting on signals from Sutton Coldfield, and the only clear line of sight was towards Waltham.

Hello. Thank you for comment. According to Wikipedia.. GEM 106.0 FM is transmitted from the Copt Oak transmitter close to the M1 north of Leicester in the National Forest. I'm pleased you like my video. Good luck :)

In the analog days used to get fantastic reception in Werrington Peterborough. By far and away the best signal compared to Sandy Heath and Belmont. Not sure about digital as I left the UK in 1999.

Shame about that bopping/scraping noise that you get on bbc.
