  • In this video I look at the Sony A7III, a camera I bought in 2019. I explore the reasons why this camera still has a place in my bag in 2022 - four years after it was released. It is still a power house in my opinion and changed the course of my career. This is...My Hero Camera!

    I'm still using my A7iii here in 2024 and my B cam is the ZV-1 and it does everything I need it to. Being a sound recordist, I'm more inclined to spend money in that direction. For me, the Sonys are more than enough. Good video dude.

      The A7III and ZV-1 are perfectly matched. It's a great combo. I'm a massive fan of both and if that's all I had, I wouldn't be perusing other cameras I'll be honest. No way I'll sell mine! So if you're happy, stick with them!! 😎👌

    Great video! Very well put together the B roll was on point. I believe your channel is going to grow very quickly and I wish you all the best of luck here on TH-cam. Thanks for an excellent video and I will be picking up the a7iii this week!

    Definitely my hero camera was the Sony A7. I was among the first buyers in my city when it was announced in 2013 before Christmas. I started my "digital camera life" earlier that year with Nikon 1, but when Sony announced FF mirrorless, there was no hesitation from my side. I was totally new to digital photo/video, with no preferences, brand names meant nothing to me then; so, I was a "perfect customer" to Sony. I gave a try to Fujifilm, Canon EOS-R, but always back to Sony. So, I think I'll stay with Sony, and interestingly out of the four main lenses that I use, there is only one made by Sony: the mother of all lenses, the mighty PZ18135f4OSS, that lens alone deserves to keep a Sony camera, no other similar from any other makers. The two Canons TS-E17f4 and 100400f5.6L both work excellently on my A7III. Today is a special day (March 14, 2022): I purchased my first real video camera the AX100, which I have been longing after so many years.

      Yes the FF A7 was indeed a game changer. So great to read your story. It's amazing to see where we all start and the journey we go on. So congratulations on your AX100 purchase! I'm sure you'll love it and here's hoping it is just the continuation of the journey for you. All the best and thanks again!

    This is more a testimonial than a technical review. I fully agree, A7III (2018) revolutionized videography by adding high 6K-downsampled FF quality 4K to the masses. I have it, too, with the PZ28135f4OSS, and that combo is brutal. Even professional staffs use A7III because of it versatility. The lens ecosystem is far better than any other systems: ZEISS, Samyang, Tamron, Sigma (apart from Sony itself) all make brilliant lenses for the A7III. Apart from the Sony PZ28135 the other of my favorite lens is the Canon TS-E17f4, which works excellently on the A7III for architecture and landscape videography.

      The A7III will continue to be in my bag for many years to come. Love it, especially with the Tamron 28-75. I can get great results with that combo 👌

    Amazing video again Paul! You make "old" gear look up to date :)
    I'm not sure if this counts as my hero camera, but the Canon R6 is my first full frame camera and it is the camera I took the first shotsof our daughter, when she was born. During her first year I took a lot of photos and some video and am learning during the journey.
    I'm still a total beginner, but the R6 has for me infinite learning space and the memories I was able to capture are just amazing for our family.

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks again! And yes, the R6 was a big leap for Canon (along with R5) and had a a lot of people in the industry worrying they could run away from the rest. Glad you're enjoying it and with those memories it will be an important camera for you 😎👌

    I got the IV and it's awesome. I suppose I could sell my 3 but now I feel like that could be my camera that i no longer have to baby.

      I won't get rid of my 3. I even used it today on a BBC shoot as I needed multiple cameras. Worked a treat! Always comes in handy 🎥👌

    Great video Paul I loved the style of your video! The a7iii is beast of a camera I feel like it was ahead of it’s time and still holds up today. I guess I’d say my hero came or my first venture into the full frame mirrorless world is the EOS R. Like the a7iii it has its short comings but I love it! Great stuff sir looking forward to seeing more videos!

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for your kind words! The EOS R produces some lovely video and it does a great job for the money. I'm sure that will keep going for a few more years too! Thanks for watching Lee and I hope continue to enjoy the videos!

    • @miklosnemeth8566
      @miklosnemeth8566 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to have the EOS R but I wasn't able to live with the 4K crop. Actually, I wouldn't regard it as a FF 4K camera. Lack of IBIS again was an issue. One of my favorite lens is the Canon TS-E17f4 and it worked better on the A7III as on the EOS-R. At that time when I had the EOS-R I had the Sony A9, that was a brutally awesome camera, but I downgraded to A7III.

    • @LeeOFrey
      @LeeOFrey 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miklosnemeth8566 Yeah it definitely has its shortcomings like most cameras. The ibis isn’t much of a deal to me but the 4k crop is a bummer. I still use it a lot for talking head and for more reach on my lenses. I adjusted to the crop pretty quickly as I came from micro 4/3 and aps-c. It’s definitely no perfect camera but IMO you can still produce some amazing content with these older cameras like the R and a7iii.

    a7iii has better rolling shutter, deeper buffer, better low light than A7iv. A tilting screen that many people prefer.

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't used to IV enough but both are impressive. As for screens - there are always pros and cons but I am very happy with the 3 😎

    what a great review Paul, love all the shot you put in this video. My question is do you use creative style or picture profile in that shot? maybe with creative style standard or maybe with the picture profile like cine2 or slog2? will be great to know your setting, thanks Paul!

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for giving the video a watch 👍 All the shots in this video were shot with a standard picture profile, then tweaked in post for the look I wanted. I find the 8 bit colour space is a bit restrictive for s-log. So for speed in the edit - standard works great. But it's entirely up to you, your work has to look the way you want :)

    Hello Mr. Paul, Great to hear about Sony A7III, i used this camera for over a year till last week when a forced robbery in my house with my family inside present, I lost all my gear to that shocking and horrible incident which has left us shocking till date. I lost all my gear like Canon 200D II & Sony A7III cameras, Sony 16-35 f4, Tamron 70-300 f4.5-6.3, Canon 50mm F1.4, Viltrox Adapter and all the kit lenses that come with Canon in one swish. Have still not recovered from that incident but as they say life has to go on. Now my quandry is that shall I buy A7III again or go for a newer set up. I do want to continue photographing images and currently i am using my iphone to do so. But it dosent feel the same as that feeling of holding an actual camera in your hand. I am based out of New Delhi, India.

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so sorry to hear about your ordeal. But it sounds like you have a good outlook on your situation. As for cameras, it is entirely your choice. There is a massive difference between pro cameras & iphones as you say. If money is no object, then a newer set-up sounds good. But speaking from experience, that isn't normally the case. So I guess you just have to look at what your budget allows. But I'll always be a fan of the A7III :) Thank you for watching!

      Unfortunately not. If you want 4K 120 you’ll be looking at the A7siii, FX3 or FX30 👍

    Is it hard to use? I want it but im scared what if i can’t use it like most reviewers on youtube say the same thing “ menu is so hard or complex” and I don’t know much English , also It's very expensive and I don't want to rush 🥲

    • @PaulGarrity
      @PaulGarrity  ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as you know the basics - ISO, Iris, shutter speed and fps - it is easy to use. You can always use auto if needed. Just the lack of buttons mean it can take an extra frew clicks to change settings. But it's a great camera to have and learn with 👍
