I’m slowly going all Sony, i’m keeping my beast A7Riii + 85 GM for portraits and just ordered the A7iii to use for low pressure shooting/faster workflow and low light video until the A7Siii arrives, love my gh5 but it just cant handle the high ISO’s during run and gun indoors, this is by far the best option, look forward to the next one!
I waited for this camera way too long! This is finally the one I will keep for the years to come

I recently bought the Panasonic G9, and I really enjoy it as a hybrid camera. It doesn't have all of the hardcore video options like ungraded flat profiles, or waveforms/vectorscopes, but I really enjoy the viewfinder, the flip out screen, and the 4K60fps modes. Also, the biggest benefit I have found is the size of the lenses!

Just ordered one of these. Had to send my 3rd xh1 back as I just can’t cope with the lock ups. Scary switching to Sony but I’ll still have my xpro2 for my Fuji colours 😊👍🏻 great vid man. Appreciate your info 👍🏻🏴📷

Jason Vong yeah out of like 100 shots they were pretty much all in focus. It has the same # of af points but not the exact same way of acquiring focus. That’s why it costs double I guess lol
I'm with you man. I've owned a few Sonys and I use them when I shoot weddings and events, but I sold my personal A6300 and went Olympus. I STILL want to hold onto my Olympus for a number of reasons, but damn you Sony, this camera is tempting me to come back to Sony haha oh and THANK YOU for using auto exposure for the ISO tests so they didnt get progressively brighter haha

MC-11 works awesome. Probably faster and more accurate than my 5D4. Canon has some catching up to do.
As an all around camera (70% video & 30% photo) do you prefer the XH1 or the A7 III?
If you had to choose would you have the A7III or the Fuji X-H1?

when fuji xt2 released, its praised as it shoot fullframe quality photo, now how is it compared to a7iii? (i guess last xt2 update addressed to achieve similiar result to a7iii, log mode, 120fps, etc...)

How was the shooting with canon lenses and the sigma mc-11 adapter?
I’m planning on buying the A7iii but i still want to use my canon lenses.
If cost was not an issue - which would you prefer; A7riii or the A7iii? I personally like the freedom of having the extra pixels for cropping -- which I do much because I don't have the luxury to change lenses all that often on a motorcycle when traveling the world. I used a X-T2 with a prime 35 equiv the majority of time on my last trip for 3 months to South America and it was fine but I miss the FF flexibility and range of my A7rii which I left at home. So do you think there is a major difference between A7riii vs A7iii?
Cold Gecko The only downside to the A7RIII is low light (being great but not as strong as the A7III). For pretty much everything else, the RIII is a beast and either the same or better than the A7 III (at a higher cost though)
fully-electronical shutter mode is the silent shutter mode on the camera, it is known to have those artifcats on artificial lights. This applies to all cameras, so it's actually not an issue.

Hey great review! Can I activate the autofocus for a second or so WHILE recording? For example by pressing the AF-ON button or pressing the shutter halfway? And does the eye autofocus still work? Thnx!
MultiReel Eye Af doesn’t work for video, only Face Detection Af. I have the AF-On mapped to manual focus toggle and it does activate/deactivate the AF while recording

P&A SLR Studios yeah I made a comparison with the xh1. It’s hard to do because you can’t use the same lens and one is a crop sensor and the other is full frame. But I made a video since so many ppl asked

On your images...why so much headroom?
Is there a way to screen mirror with your MacBook Pro? Also Is there any easy way to get the files on your computer? For example on the iPhone all you have to do is tap on your video and then click share and then select your computer. With AirDrop, it does it over the air. Within seconds. Is there any kind of functionality like this these days with any cameras?
You can transfer from camera to phone wirelessly but I think the quality takes a hit. For the best quality you want to transfer from SD card to computer.

Shibby120 if you got the HDMI capture card from blackmagic you could send HDMI from the a7iii into your computer and record directly to your computer if you have the camera in the same place as your computer. Or something like the Atomos Ninja V can also record directly to an ssd and you could edit off that. Those are some options that keep good quality

Bit late to the video here! But really value your opinion, how does the 120fps compare to the Xh1? I currently have an XH1 (sold xt3) but fancy an a7iii. The Xt3 120fps was mega. Cheers
Its much better than the xh1. Similar to how the XT3 looks. Not quite as much bitrate but still good.
Lee Zavitz Thank you for replying so quickly! That’s good as I’m not hugely impressed by XH1 slow motion, I have an X-t4 preordered and obviously have Fuji lenses but there is just something about that full frame image! Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Bruno Oliveira that's really not true. Look at what professional photographers outside of TH-cam are actually using. Sony is nice for video, true, but most working pro's are keeping their dslrs and ecosystems.
Pete B It is expected. We cannot expect the majority who have heavily invested in Nikon or Canon to switch to Sony in a heartbeat, what we can really see now is people switching in waves and it will take some time. Canon and Nikon are in trouble and hey that's not me saying that. I am a Nikon user who have massively invested in glasses and some Nikon bodies but you know what? I am seriously thinking about switching to Sony. I think Sony cameras have matured quite a lot over the past three years and they now have some really good lenses, although that G master ones are bloody expensive now. For me there's no question that Sony will lead the camera market in a few years from now. Nikon and Canon are expected to announce their full frame mirrorless camera sadly their huge lens lines will mostly likely work with via adaptor which we all know is not the same. We'll see.
Bruno Oliveira I am not sure how many people really are changing to mirrorless. Creators on TH-cam are often switching systems, for various reasons (sponsorship, freebees, to create content and sometimes because they really prefer one system over another). I'm long time nikon user, also having two fujis. Canon and nikon are definitely behind the curve on tech not on IQ or camera quality. Sadly, tech and specs are what drive sales. When the new mirrorless nikon and canons appear and adaptors are needed for their existing lenses, if they aren't fully functional, ie fully af, then they will have a huge problem on their hands.

Curious.... all that’s available right now is the A7Riii, Henry’s is saying 2-3 month wait for the A7iii from back order... if you were in the market would you drop the extra $$$ on the R or wait and hope it doesn’t take 3 months to fulfill the back order???? The standard answer I see is “if you have to ask that question, you should just wait”
Don Lea the a7riii vs a7iii is an interesting question I get asked a lot and I always think if you are willing to spend that much more on the a7riii you obviously have the money so go for it. The a7riii will give you a more superior image due to mega pixels. Plus when you shoot in super35 mode you still get a 18mp file vs 10mp from the a7iii. Other than that they are nearly identical. Word is the a7iii is slightly better in low light. I can’t confirm this but it makes sense

Beside the FF /crop how does it stands against Fuji xh1.
Depends in what areas. A7iii is the better choice for video, lowlight and battery life. For everything else they are both pretty awesome cameras.
Fuji has a wider range of good lenses, better supported and updated firmware and a imo a better user experience.
Realistically, you'd be happy with the output of either camera. Best is to try both and see what feels better for you.
The A73 is the best camera in the market..anyone but fanboys of other brands can see that.
shaolin95 best is very subjective. Specs of a system don't make it best. Neither do sponsored reviews.
Agree, that is why so many people are just waiting for Sony princess prizes to get out the clouds and within reasonable, if they do, i dont think anyone else has a chance unless the are ready to compete with Sony offers.

Thomas Yuan It’s better in almost every way. The same in noise for photos and videos up to around ISO 20,000, but with more megapixels and 6K downscaling it compensates for lower ISO higher quality overall

So sony finaly made camera that samsung did in 2014. Nice.
It was an apsc camera without ibis. Not really the same. I use to own the NX1 it was great but no lens support and then Samsung dumped the project which was lame.

Pretty good actually. It's better than any other sony I've used. (wouldnt say its better than Canon)

Sean Shannon shooting raw get’s anything you need w/ any camera.
I do shoot raw but every single camera has its own unique rendering of colour. I'm not going to spend hours fixing bad colours, especially skin tones, when I can get good colours SOOC.
If I like the colours from Kodak Portra I'm not going shoot Fuji 400h and then edit it to look like Portra, I'm just going to shoot Portra.

jason brooklyn yes it does. It just doesn’t show you the info or settings. They remain on the camera. But it will display 4K out. Never had a problem.

I sent my back after a few days. Did you not find the files and tones of the camera very digital and mehh? The people I took the photos of didn't like the way their skin looked. I hated to send it back because the rest was great. But in the end. File output matters most.
Hasnt effected my work. Getting similar results to anything else I shoot with if you check my instagram.
Yeah your look is very clinical. I use Fuji and Canon. The sony files are just not my style. And i haven't seen many photos shot with the sonys that speak to me at all.
So you didn't like the skin tones? How did they look? This is very interesting as skin tones SOOC are the most important thing to me.
Sean Shannon the shifts in tones are very sharp and not flattering. Unless you have perfect skin. Also the coloring is just off and a pain in the butt to correct. None of the girls liked the way their skin looked but liked the general photo. Composition and smiles etc.
I sometimes find the same thing with my D800. In good soft light and if the model has darker skin the skin tones are good. But in not great light the skin tones can look horrible. I think I'll stick with Canon!

thomas lamb Xpro2 is awesome! But it fits a different type of photography.
I'm a photographer not a hybrid, I've said it before if you want to shoot video buy a camcorder.

SuperDigitalMe I never said you need to buy an A7iii. This is a review for people looking to buy an a7iii. My rant isn’t really relevant here. My rant was for all the people constantly jumping around camera systems because of GAS instead of enjoying what they have. If I wasn’t so heavy into TH-cam sharing and reviewing gear for people I would only have one camera system.
