@@ericlotze7724 Best coating to use is one that contains a majority amount of zirconium oxide. It has a very high temp rating and is very efficient at reflecting IR. There are ones made for ceramics, and ones made for metal. They tend to be on the expensive side though. Probably the cheapest one is called Heat Guard. I just bought some for nonmetal use. It was 55 for 3 lbs, I think. Edit, it was 5 lbs, not 3lbs.
Np dude, seems like a quality stove. Bit pricey but i'd probably pay that for one. Whats the setup time like and how small does it pack down?@@AdventureswithSpackmann
@@A_Sense_Of_Purpos3 setup is pretty quick, unfold and put the pipes together. It’s not a small stove even when folded. Won’t fit in a backpack, wouldn’t want it on my back either lol, it’s not light at all.
14:40 Awesome video, thanks! But I have a question that Winnerwell is reluctant to answer, Have you (or any others can comment) had consistent success with a 90-degree elbow / table so close to the firebox so far? I question if it will draft effectively going horizontal. Since thermodynamics tells us heat likes to rise upward, not sideways.. Thats the only little concern I have with this giraffe stove (safety) Please comment on your experiences🙏
If you mean the long cook area after the firebox before it exits through the pipe then no. I have not had a problem drafting this stove or any other that function like a rocket stove. Once most stoves, that draft properly, get hot there usually isn’t a problem with draw(I have stoves that don’t draft properly). The heat helps with the thermodynamics to draw it up and out. 90 elbows: I almost always use two elbows with my setups. Just usually how I need to setup. But just like the cook top, once the pipes get hot enough, it draws and draft fine. Winnerwell: is your question regarding the new secondary burn thingy? Thanks for watching
Also, enough vertical draw needs to be in place to allow for horizontal fire. I’m sure there is some formula online some where. Mass rocket stove heaters actually go down before back up with the draft, they are pretty cool, check them out on TH-cam
Thanks for the reply. For Winnerwell, no. More like using 2 x 90-degree pipes. The idea was I prefer routing the pipe horizontal straight out a side window thus ‘ideally’ no holes (stove jacks) in tent roof and rain fly… then algorithm brought me to your very unique cool looking stove :)
@@Peter_Channel ok so for the 90s I believe the same rules apply. You still need enough pipe after the last elbow to create enough draw. The algorithm is cool sometimes lol.
You've said that this isn't a stove that's good at having a long burn time and waking up to coals in the morning. Do you know of a camping stove that _is_ good for that sort of thing?
Yes I do. I have a couple stoves that I get a full nights burn with. The Knico Alaskan and the Camp Chef Alpine stove. Both are big stoves that I can have coals in the morning with. That’s with the stove dampened down completely and not roaring all night. Thanks for watching
Would be great if they made a smaller version of this. Even though, I'm thinking about getting one. Only thing I don't get is why does it have zero reviews on Amazon? Even the AliExpress page looks kinda shady. IDK I never bought there before. Just seems a little suspect.
Ive never had a problem with AliExpress. I do always use a form of payment that is backed up like PayPal or credit card so if something happens I can dispute it. I recommend doing that with any site cause you never know. But I’ve been using AliExpress for a long time now and it’s great in my opinion. As for reviews on Amazon, maybe no one’s purchased it from Amazon yet, idk. Thanks for watching
@AdventureswithSpackmann My bad, I read another comment and realized I missed the joke, humorless goof that I am! (My excuse, my 3 year-old was playing with me during the vid!) Anyway, sorry bout that! 😂
@blairtinkle4563 sure sure sure, blame it on the kid lmao. No worries my friend. I always wonder if the things I do will come off as funny or just not understandable lol.
@AdventureswithSpackmann 🤣😂🤣 I wasn't listening and I played it twice no sound, and I'm really not much of a woodsman! Maybe next time rent a really, really expensive hotel room and then camp in it, see if I get the joke!!
Maybe you could put some small wood stove door seal rope in those hopper door cracks ,and other places. It could be made air tight and still fold up the same way.
Hmmm I’m not sure the loading door would have enough space to open if I added rope to the hopper cracks. It’s all pretty tight. If its not pulled out completely it gets stuck. Were you thinking on the inside attached to the hopper to seal against the burn box? T
@@AdventureswithSpackmann Yes. That's what I was thinking. I'm imagining the hopper having some kind of lip that keeps it from coming out and gluing a little strand of the rope stuff on that lip. So it hits the backside of the place it usually hits and stops on. Maybe even some kind of latch or wedge to hold it open against the seal too. That stove is so cool as it is though. Having that glass on the top part ,to see those flames just-a-ripping through there is wicked cool. nice to watch. I had to do a similar deal on the door of a little tent /camping stove I bought. I had put it in a camper but the pipe is just too small to draft right and smoke would come out around the door and cracks until it started a good burn. So I sealed er up a bit. Also put a tray under the door for embers that can fall out when opened. It worked good. I had a piece of the rope and the high temp glue, from fixing my big regular stove in my house. I just un-twisted it and got a bunch of little ropes. The stuff flattens out good as to still be able to close the door and latch it. It's was just not designed for indoor use. The two 90 degree elbows I used to get the pipe out a window, probably didn't help the drafting situation ,lol. But now it works like a charm.
@@immrnoidall gotcha yeah that’s what it is, a lip that stops it. I could add rope there but the door to the hopper also has a lip that I would believe wouldn’t allow it to close if you added rope. Sealing it would definitely slow the burn down so maybe I’ll check into it and see if it would fit there. You’re stove, is it the Caribou Outbacker stove?
@@AdventureswithSpackmann If it is sucking in air, maybe something on the outside of the crack. if it don't cause the same issue when folding it up. A small piece will flatten out pretty good. But I see the area you're talking about. How about one piece that goes arount it on the outside, held with magnets?
do they have a pellet system? it shouldnt be hard to adapt the feed door to a pellet feeder.. for longer heat a couple big stones under neath the stove and large pots of water or sand on top, that mat not be practicable for backpacking but that stove could use a sledge or freakin motorized cart... lol
@Doc Ink fans would push the heat around great. They pellet system they have replaces the top burner on the rocket stove. Sits on top of the burn chamber. Not on the door. Not sure why they did that and not on the door but maybe there is a reason. You’re right it’s not for backpacking but I don’t backpack a long distance in the winter and I always have a sled so weight usually isn’t an issue. This is totally a huge stove for base camp or parking lot camping. Imagine putting 4 wheels on it with a motor and having it pull your gear too lol. Thanks for watching
Kinda seems like overkill for a simple camp tent stove. Like he had a bunch of old tent stoves, bolted them together because the single unit didn't work. Now you got three units that don't work and you'll have to readjust them every time you move the stove or use it. On the plus side, if the apocalypse comes and we're all back in tents/ caves, you'll be that much ahead.
Ahh I really like the look of that stove, i just bought a outbacker tent stove recently only cost $140 Euro in Ireland. Is that the one Tigris hammock tent you're using? It looks pretty big!
@Mark Smith it is the Tegimen. Tent is pretty big. I like the tent a lot honestly. Last weeks video was on that tent. Have only started using it but it’s pretty sweet. Thanks for watching
When I mentioned width I'm talking about the length of the top cooking area. I like where you load the fuel in also. I like yours better. That's a really cool stove!

3 months in and not available on Amazon. Did the product sell that fast or was it not as successful as thought? Lastly, I don't see a spark arrestor at the top of the chimney stack.
@ygrittesnow2167 I’m not sure why it’s not available on Amazon but I believe it’s still available on AliExpress if you are interested. It doesn’t come with a spark arrester. Not sure if that because it’s a rocket stove and they don’t expect many sparks to exit or if it just doesn’t come with one. Thanks for watching

If you added an intake fan, you would burn out (oxidize) the metal in no time. Even a pure titanium stove would be challenged by that.

I love the looks of that stove too.
@Jeff Jackson I know right! Thanks for watching
@@AdventureswithSpackmann oh yeah! You are very welcome brother. You and your family(Remy Dog too) stay safe, stay healthy, stay warm and God Bless

@@AdventureswithSpackmann thank you brother. i think it is going north of us. North of I-80 i think, not sure. Are you guys going to get hit with it.
@Jeff Jackson nice. We are getting hit with it. Saying we could get 18-20” so we will see.
I like it
Right! I do too. Thanks for watching
Thats pretty badass tbh.
My thoughts exactly! Thanks for watching
Thats the only little concern I have with this giraffe stove (safety)
Please comment on your experiences🙏
Oh you’re right! I didn’t see the horizontal fire in the little window right there at 14:43! 🔥 wow
@@Peter_Channel ok so for the 90s I believe the same rules apply. You still need enough pipe after the last elbow to create enough draw.
The algorithm is cool sometimes lol.
How did you make this? It looks like it would be worth my time! Tnx 73 dan
I bought this from aliexpress. Thanks for watching
The lighting sequence was hilarious!
Lol thank you, glad you enjoyed. Thanks for watching
Thanks for watching
how much weight can you put on the stove with out the metal buckling?
On the main burner area I have a pellet attachment that holds about 30pounds of pellets. On the rest of it, not really sure. Thanks for watching
thanks for the quick reply! @@AdventureswithSpackmann

Where did you get that awesome chair?
What chair is it? Can you describe it to me then I can let you know.
Just checked Amazon can't find it
Pretty sure it’s still available on aliexpress. Thanks for watching
Use milk of magnesium on the stove pipe connections if they’re stainless steel.
@Larry Followay I’m pretty sure they are. Thanks!
I didnt understand lighting the shavings to light the lighter to light the burner to light the stove.
Lol then you need to watch it again. It was just a joke.
@blairtinkle4563 lol pitch a tent in it too?
@@immrnoidall outside might work! Would at the very least cut the gap down. Great idea
Halve the price and I'm in.

you need a couple of those heat fans to circ that heat around
do they have a pellet system? it shouldnt be hard to adapt the feed door to a pellet feeder.. for longer heat a couple big stones under neath the stove and large pots of water or sand on top, that mat not be practicable for backpacking but that stove could use a sledge or freakin motorized cart...

How much does this beast weigh?
It is not a lightweight stove at all, or a small stove lol. If I was guessing, 30-45 pounds.
Overkill or the right amount of kill lol. I love it. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I’ll drink any day of the week. Thanks for watching
