I watched it on TH-cam one day on a win and was absolutely blown away and doing my googles after the movie and finding out it was based of a true story just made it all the more powerful for me
Growing up in Arkansas.... I know this story quite well. I was a couple of years older than him. I knew and played against several of his teammates while in HS. I've never heard anyone utter a bad word about him. Coach Danny Ford was Brandon's head coach when he 1st got to Arkansas and did not believe in 77😢. Arkansas was new to the SEC during this time and hadn't garnered much respect. He was a huge catalyst in the schools 1st appearance in SEC Championship game (1995 vs Florida).
Houston Nutt was his coach during his senior year. He he gave him the biggest compliment ever. Said that "Brandon is the guy you want your daughter to marry." Coach Nutt also said he kept his locker in perfect condition.... shoes in the correct spots. Socks, perfectly folded, shorts hanging on the proper hook.... he even kept a locker after graduation and would use the facility up until the draft to work outs. On the day he was killed, he went back to see his teammates, he actually worked out, before heading back to Harrison.
Coach Nutt made sure the locker was encased and kept just the way Brandon left it... perfectly. The locker room has been remodeled at least twice since, but they have kept the locker encased, just as Brandon left it that day in 1999.
Every one I knew that played with Brandon says he was as advertised. Super hard worker. Took no shortcuts. Only wanted an opportunity and if that wasn't good enough, wanted to know what he needed to do to get better. As usual FlemLo, great work and appreciate you bringing the story to your platform.

When I was a kid, I was the “It’s not fair” kid. No matter the circumstances, I was always the party being screwed over. It wasn’t until I was older and nerdier that I heard a profound statement that stuck with me forever.
It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose. Stack that on top of the whole “life’s not fair” adage and it really paints a picture of how truly remarkable this guy was.
He had every opportunity to be lesser, to accept that some things were just not meant to be. Instead, he reached, dug, clawed, and scraped to be more, even if for just a short while.

Measure of a Man, Drumhead, Sarek-- most of the best episodes involved just putting Sir Pat in a room and letting him absolutely own it.

I follow a lot of channels that tell stories on different subjects. You're probably the best story teller.
Honestly you are right man. The only one I listen to that us close is mr ballen. Mr ballen is great at making you feel like you are in the shoes of the main character of the story he is telling. Our boy flemlo is great at making you feel the story. Nobody else I have heard gives you as much backstory(read as understanding) of the person the story is covering. This is story telling in its fullest form. Never been disappointed with a story told by flemlo

Respect for covering Burlsworth. Tragic story. Arkansas fans have had a rough time recently too. Alex Collins, the all time leading rusher for Arkansas, recently passed away as well as Ryan Mallett.

Brandon was waiting to greet Khyree Jackson at the pearly gates. Both worked so hard for this. They will never be forgotten.
My first cousin, Chad Abernathy used to play on the Razorbacks line and was one of his closest friends during his time at Arkansas. He has talked about him and is part of the foundation that was created by his family.
I will say that the Greater film didn’t take a lot of liberties with Brandon’s life. Chad said that guy absolutely went through hell trying with all his might and succeeded in a way that not many could or would try.
Chad has said he misses the big guy to this day and would have been amazing if he wasn’t taken.
Says a lot that Brandon’s story still lives on.
When you already are familiar with this sad story from start to finish, but you just have to see how FlemLo tells it

His mom reminds me of my parents. As an academically gifted truck driver’s kid from a small town in Kentucky, I desperately wanted to go to medical school. My dad was ready to remortgage the house to help me. Fortunately through hard work, I earned full academic scholarships to both college and medical school. After a successful 20 year career as a general pediatrician, I’m now almost 9 years into my second career as a medical officer at FDA. The generosity of scholarship donors helped me accomplish my dream of becoming a physician. Now in public service, it’s my time to give something back. I could make 3x my current salary working in pharma, but I’m content. Every day I get to give something back to the country that helped me accomplish my dream. I’ll take that deal any day and twice on Sunday.

Life is a test so I'll give the analogy of taking a test. Imagine someone thinking, "Man it sucks that this guy has to take this hard test after having studied hours for it while someone else is sleeping and hanging out!" Years later, it may become blatantly obvious that the person who wrote the test ends up in a sweet spot in life while the other one is suffering hardship. Don't let the short term perspective distort the reality.

He was from the next town over from me. His story is very inspirational that ended in tragedy. No one from our area ever plays D1 power 5 football. Let alone starting D1, then actually making it to pros, he is the only one.

I’m very familiar with this story, and it breaks my heart even more knowing Khyree Jackson also just passed not even a day ago… just drafted in the 4th round and once was working at a grocery store where he had received employee of the month and had thoughts that he may just be working there instead of going to the league. Only God knows if it could’ve saved his life, LLKJ LLBB 🕊️🙏 forever missed

I always look back at stories like this and wish I had as strong of a mindset as these dudes did. A lot of times I lost full belief and confidence in myself at signs of struggle and hardship. Movie on Netflix about him made me realize how bad he really wanted to make his dream a reality… Got to come to Arkansas on an unofficial visit met the coach, coach told him he was too small… So he took that personally and gained too much weight… They had him on scout team and they seen what a dog he was… Even the upperclassman that picked on him finally realized he was a great guy… He was always afraid of 18 wheelers & for him to lose his life to that accident really crushed me at the end… He met up with his mother every weekend to tell her he missed and loved her and get home cooked meals… Only to get that horrible call & she had to tell Marty his older brother who was basically his father

This crazy, I was a walk-on and a finalist for the Rudy award in 2009. I think it hits different for me as a former walk-on that got interest from the Jags and Lions (no try-out) and was offered a contract with the IFL (arena), which I later declined. The work to do what he did must've been insane....

That hit different after hearing everything he overcame. I knew it was coming but regardless I found myself constantly thinking over and over about how it could’ve went differently. The only silver lining is he achieved everything he wanted AND then some. He made is family unfathomably proud.

My first razorback game I went with my 7th grade football team. We got to walk on the sideline to our end zone seats. I remember seeing this humongous guy with glasses on thinking wow he is so huge. It was Brandon
Let it be a testimony, that he put God first. He stayed disciplined. He grinded. And he got what he wanted. He achieved his dream. It is very sad. But his life has inspired millions. The impact he has made is irreversible. And God has changed people’s heart through him. Being used in the Will of God is the most important thing ever. And Being with the Father is more important than anything you do here. I know he’s happy and smiling. Some things are to be looked at as a testimony. We know he’s in heaven. And so I rejoice that my brother in Christ is at peace.

Life’s true measure isn’t always in its earthly rewards but in the legacy they leave behind and the spiritual fulfillment they achieve. Their passing isn’t the end but a transition to a peace earned through integrity and devotion, showing that their life’s purpose transcended material success.
I disagree with your beginning perspective on Burlsworth, Flem. None of us can control how many years we have on this earth. we can work out, eat the right things, stay away from drugs or excessive alcohol use, etc. but when our time to leave this earth arrives, then it’s nothing anybody can do. Burlsworth accomplished more in his 22 years of life, then most people in 72 years of life. He got a college degree and was able to see his dream come true of becoming an Arkansas Razorback. he then went on to become a college all-American, and before he left this earth, was able to experience being drafted into the NFL. He left this earth blessed and purposed fulfilled as far as I’m concerned. It’s not about how many years you live. It’s about how well you live in the years that you’re given. With respect 💯

Well did Flemlo. I'm a native Arkansan, played ball through highschool in the late 90s. Brandon anchored the O line on those Arkansas teams that we watched and idolized as young players ourselves.
One cool memory i will always have is attending senior football camp at the UofA and seeing Brandon's locker incased in glass. His glasses, jersey and a helmet that looked like he wore it to hell and back. I'll never forget the way it looks.

Brandon was a beast and man anyone with true values can appreciate. My name is Brandon too and it's great to learn about another Brandon that was like this. As a Christian I hope to meet him in Heaven one day. I was a kid in elementary school when he passed away. It's a sad story, but he still has an impact on us all today. Still doing God's work to this day! True hero if you ask me.

Now...ik not every is a follower of Christ...but if you ask him, he'd probably say every part was the good part. Seems like he really had faith that God was gonna be behind him. He's home in the kingdom. Unfortunately we never got to see him continue to grow, his fam never got to see him in the NFL and start a new legacy, but he for sure made a huge impact on a ton of people and set a great example of what it means to be selfless. RIP. Dude was a beast and needs to be talked about more.
