The trouble for me seems to be family members who have a lack of understanding the details and nuances of what has happened to my brain.I think video feedback mahowt ;unfortunately.Regardless, thank you Tara, you are very inspiring!

Oh my goodness- glad I was still listening- “ reframe your thinking when family points out where your movement is off- hunched over, etc.”. Consider it feedback” Haha- marriage therapy! My husband seems to be the only one courageous enough to point out “ learned non movement to me. Which until seeing this video- could not identify what the root cause of was happening to me- following recovery from a brain tumor and the conventional interventions necessary to put me in remission

Thankyou again. You've been a rock for me these last 3 years. I had a lot of synergy patterns and now have some non synergy but quite a few synergistic ones to work through a one that's been bothering me is lifting my arm out up front extended against clarity where the shoulder wants to retract itself back I have got partial movement up but the rest of it to get to eye level is still a goal I need to get to. My name is Anthony and just a thousand thank yous for staying the course and helping all of us out here that are trying to help ourselves and your advice is totally invaluable thank you thank you

Thank you Dr. Tobias, for your continued time and support. Again this video is great at explaining the over all big picture of things, I so appreciate your help. Sometimes when we say things we really don't appreciate or comprehend the magnitude of our words, case in point. Last week you responded to my comment, and in that response you made a very simple but to me a very profound statement, the jest of which is " I'm sure that you are not where you first started ", you have no idea how many times I've had to lean on that this week, realizing that I have indeed come a long ways, still a long way to go but I'm better today than I was yesterday. May the Lord bless you and keep you safe.

As always, many thanks for the great content. I suffered a SCI(c4-c5) 7yrs ago. Though I'm functionally independent to some extent, for most of my movements I used the compensating muscles..which made them stronger and stronger.. and the actual muscles weaker. Your videos are really helping me a lot to correct those fundamentals. Special thanks for your kind words of motivation.. I'm a big fan of the way you use pauses to emphasize on a word while explaining a topic 🙂

Hi Dr Tobias, need advice on where to start in recovering my walking/balance diffeculity due to MS. I've got an involved right foot and leg and can not lift the leg/foot. Very weak in that leg and when I walk the right hip will not stay strong and my whole side sways down, if I walk down the hall way and hold both ides of the walls I can walk normal. It's gotten harder lifting my right leg to get into the car and have to have someone lift and place the right foot into the car then from the other side pull my pant leg to pull leg over. I drive using hand controls because of the weakness and fatigue in the right foot.
When I sleep my right foot points down about 10 years now.
The last year and a half my ability to walk has gotten much worse, now I lean and reach for things to hold or touch when I walk and use a cane inside about 2 years now. I use a walker some for support and balance mostly to walk out of doors.
My right foot has foot drag and has became a real problem and causes me to walk very slowly and can not lift that right leg...both legs hard to lift but the right is MUCH worse.
My right arm has become very eaily to fatigue, writing is hard / hand work of any kind tires my hand and my arm feels weak like it needs to be stretched a lot.
My right ankle has become thick and deformed looking but is not painful, I do not think it would ever return to normal either. I've asked several doctors what was wrong with the ankle but no one says a thing. I would like to know if this is MS or something else.
I was declaired secondary progressive mutiple sclerosis five years ago by mayo clinic.
I can not stand with my shoulders back they tend to roll frontwards and now a small hunp is there, not sure if this is from MS or a van roll over wreck at 16.
I've been treated for long term lyme dieae around 2010 as well, that Dr. said that Lyme can caue all kinds of problems very simular to MS.
I watch your videos, they are very informative and hope to get help learning to walk somewhat normal again following your instructions on the exercises to do to help. Going to be a lot of work and with your videos hope to turn things around. Thank you again, Janet

I' ve been ale to walk without using a cane for about two years and have figured out what has been giving me pain in my upper glute; the problem is actually related to my foot orientation foot:forward limited pain, which is what i'm focused on when I'm trying to walk pointing my foot forward my AFO allows for limited movement, i have not had my AFO adjusted for over two years,I'm wondering, ifi t's time, I have good control of my leg movement when I'mlying down, i'm in a pretty good place mentally, yesterday morningmy wife came down the stairs around the corner my face automatically smiled, though I couldn't see her, it's great to love some one for over forty years,I wish most people were as fortunate as I have beeni've found the positive in my stroke, I worked on the road most of my life, this stroke forced me to stay home, i've gotten to know my grand daughter, who is a hoot, my mom and I hadn't been speaking muchI used this stroke to open communication with her it gave us some thingi n common, she died in 2021during a time period when I would have been most likely working in louisiana, she had another strokeand her heart couldn't take therapy, too many years of smoking, the last words she heard me say were, I love you, at least they were not angry, as endings go ours could have been worse, she died the evening of my visit.

Hi Tara. I gave MS. What is your opinion about the HFAD(hip flexor assistive device by Becker) for learning to walk better without circunduction and vaulting? When I walk with it on my walking is more smooth but I don’t want to weaken my hip flexor by depending on the device. Thank you.

I go to a big hospital rehabilitation in Atlanta. The thing I like about your videos is you combined walking with upper body. I get frustrated at Emory because they want to spend an hour working on your walking then an hour with your arm. When in the back of my mind I can tell that my walk patterned would better if my arm being addressed at the same time. I love my time in hospital and the people. But it can be frustrating. They get tired of me bring you up! I finally convinced my pt to air splint my arm while I walk. Lastly, do you have any options on cryotherapy?

Hi Brenda! That is an excellent question! Generally speaking there are probably a variety of factors that go into how anyone regains movement. Probably a combination of spasticity, what type of splinting they wear, how the arm is positioned throughout the day, what part of the brain is damaged and how severe the brain damage. Long story short, I don't have a good "one size fits all answer" 😊

@@rehabhqofficial, i was doing a woodworking project in my garage and fell over some things on the floor. I don't want the tone and stiffness to come back but I do want to strengthen my left, involved side. I have quite a bit of muscle atrophy from my glutes to my ankle. My calf muscles are finally beginning to soften after years of every day intensive stretching them and wearing AFO. I can walk unassisted and completely normal now. I can't jog or run yet. I'm so ready to run. At first I had my house made fully wheelchair accessible. Now I am having everything put back as it was.

What are some exercises to build up the quad in addition to squats? It's been 5 years, affected on the left side and received a quarterly botox injection 3 weeks ago.
Earlier in the week after using the bathroom (#1), my quad started burning, felt like it snapped, and I fell. Used my cane for 2 days to get around and things feel somewhat normal, but that fear is in the back of my mind again. Wondering if it was the shot or general fatigue. In any case, I would like to strengthen both my quad and ham with chair assistance.

Thank you so much for watching and for sharing your story! I am so sorry to hear about your fall. I do not recommend anyone do exercises unsupervised if you have fallen. Also, it is strongly recommended that you seek medical attention.

Sorry, but what to do with Gravity Elimination, if we don’t have access to Suspension Bands and those sophisticated devices?

Thanks for watching! Most of the "equipment" I use is extremely "low sophistication". But the bigger picture in this video is meant to just give you ideas on how you need to position your body to perform gravity eliminated exercise. I have had patients come up with a variety of things to recreate this basic idea.

My neurologist told me my arm is going to be the last thing to recover because of where it is in the brain. Because of this I kind of put my arm on the back burner . Why should I work on my arm if it’s not going to recover, is this true

I would also work on flexing wrist IF I want to flex ankle.....connect "flexing" of different joints in brain. Renate #feldenkrais
