Well done! Counting calories really does make the difference for some. It was an education for me about the impact of what I was eating. For me it wasn’t bad food, it was too much for my system. Now I know and I don’t have to count calories anymore but it’s an excellent tool for a reality check if doing so works for you.
Great informative and helpful video. I'm 46 years old, slim and I've been following many of these tips and they work, maintaining a healthy weight for my height and age. Since I stopped consumming ultra processed, junk foods, sugars and snacks, anxiety and food cravings have decreased while health and skin are improved. Going to fresh markets and cooking whole foods at home, eating healthy without starving myself have made a difference for good. You look amazing, Alice! Merci beaucoup for sharing 💖
I’ve seen many fat French women outside of Paris. So it’s a cliche. Many women in metropolitan cities all over the world look after themselves and maintain healthy diet . If you are overweight, don’t invest in expensive clothes, invest in your health first .
I definitely feel that in the U.S., we tend to focus far too much on looking for a quick fix rather than considering ourselves holistically. My own personal experience, and what I've observed pretty much everywhere I've lived, is that many Americans are living in "survival mode," dissociated from life such that simple things like good food and sleep just don't happen. There are many complex reasons for this that I won't get into. But I have always appreciated the wisdom and example of other cultures like France that seem to have such an easy time with weight management. Clearly you all have something to teach us! Whole foods, smaller portions, good hydration, good sleep, consistent exercise, dietary fiber, probiotics, all of these are the recipe for efficient digestion and a balanced microbiome, and it seems like that is really the whole "secret" in a nutshell. A healthy gut really is an essential foundation for holistic health and that's what makes it "effortlessly" fall into place. :) One little tip I'd love to share as an herbalist is to keep your herbal tea covered while steeping it, to keep even more of the beneficial properties in. This is especially helpful with aromatic herbs like rosemary and meadowsweet, as the compounds that give them their lovely scents can also be very volatile and evaporate quickly when heated. Your blend sounds wonderful, I'm going to give it a try today!
I am from the US, 47 years old and working to lose about 25-30lb. Thanks for your tips. Your salads look amazing and have inspired me to include a lot more healthy, nutrient dense foods in my salads. Another thing that has helped me is intermittent fasting. I fast for a 14-15 hour window and that has helped me stop my late night snacking habits and makes me feel better/lighter and more motivated each morning. I’m going to incorporate more of your tips as well! Merci!
I used to live in Mexico, I walked a lot, and the food was delicious and never gained weight. I moved to the USA, and unfortunately, I gained so much weight, im in my 30s, and it's so hard to lose weight😢 Alice, you gave me motivation to change the way im eating ❤❤❤
Your salads depicted here are a bit different than typical salads I see. I would be interested if you considered showing some of your favorite recipes for them and your vinagrettes. Edit: Perplexed query I missed asking. What are your daily protein goals? From the food you showed I would find it difficult to eat more than 50 grams of protein daily. Perhaps I missed something?
Fresh blueberries fulfill my sugar cravings, I eat at least a pint basket of them every day. They get expensive, but that’s ok. A pint is four servings, but berries are low in sugar, especially compared to other fruits like grapes and bananas, which I hate.
I agree that a huge key is cooking your own meals, from whole ingredients. The fewer simple starches and packaged foods in my diet the better I sleep, the more energy I have and the less likely I am to have unhealthy sugar cravings. I don't claim to be a saint, and I"m often busy and wishing I could just magic my meal onto my plate. Batch cooking, batch washing/prepping veggies, and making good use of my freezer space have all been game changers. No excuse to buy cafeteria food if there's a healthy meal in the freezer to take to work; no excuse to grab takeout when I have every single ingredient for a healthy bowl ready to go in the fridge when I get home.
As a young woman with a full-time job who has been going to the grocery store since 2016, I have noticed how expensive food has gotten. Not only that, but I have been vegan since I was 13 years old. It's been a struggle to find affordable food, drinks, and other meals for myself. I did watch a TH-cam video that teaches how to grow a small kitchen garden, veggie canning, preparing pre-batched vegan yoghurts and such. Now I spend less than US $80 per biweekly. I do understand not many women will have the time or energy to do this every Saturday or Sunday. But it is refreshing and fun to be able to create a fun bi-weekly menu - restaurant style, and the foods have to look pleasing and creative just like 5* restaurants do. It's replicating that feel, flavour and atmosphere but at home. I do buy candles every month and flowers every other week to make it feel like I'm stepping into an actual restaurant. I highly recommend these small tips to friends and TH-camrs. If you find this comment. 😊 🥗🍣

Hi, Alice! New to your channel and very intrigued by your videos. When you say French people do not snack does this mean even no fruit or a small salad in between the meals? I am European and find it hard not to have those on a daily basis 😊
Thank you for this video, can I ask, if you have time if you could make a ~what I eat in a day or week~ or maybe even a meal plan that you do? I know you go daily to the fresh markets so maybe you do not meal plan haha.
Constant snacking, junk food, little exercise, huge portions, little fresh food, animal-laden regimen, the wrong oils, high fructose corn syrup, hardly walking anywhere ... it is no mystery.

I lost 50 lbs. by daily walking, on steep hilly terrain, up to 90minutes per day, and eliminating grains and root vegetables, especially potatoes. I had already given up all forms of sugar, except what occurs naturally in fresh fruit and non-starchy vegetables, and alcohol, except as a party treat a few times per year (one or two glasses of champagne). I had really given up on weight loss after eating only 800 Kcal/day for 22 years just to maintain my weight. I no longer believe in the very crude, unproven model, I eat at least twice as many calories now (I’m also a scientist, and can tell you that applying the calorie model to human metabolism has no basis in science). I never count or measure anything and will occasionally have potatoes or a beer or a dessert, which I love, but it’s the everyday diet and activity that count most. More exercise, fewer carbs did the trick for me. Funnily, I began my walks only to cure lingering chest pain from pneumonia, not only did it work, it showed me the way to a fit, slender body. You can do it!
I was a teen here in America in the 1970's. There were very few overweight people. I was not overweight. I had to ask why. Quick answer... less processed foods and more whole foods. Eating together as a family and not on the phone. Mindful Eating. More exercise. Now one thing that did take place and still takes place in France. Fat shaming. I have seen videos where there is alot of fat shaming especially in France. I don't think that is good either. There is not alot in America. Americans I do feel do not hold themselves accountable for the rampant obesity but, we are at fault. Dieticians now are saying just love and accept yourself. Yes, love and accept yourself but, never accept being obese. No one has to stay in that position. Love yourself enough to seek help in getting your body and mind healthy. Let's be kind always to each other and be willing to share and help anyone who is struggling.
The 1970s was before the same people who used to sell cigarettes in the US realized the market was losing interest, so they switched to deliberately making food in the US addictive. A 2013 study of rats found Oreos more addictive than hard drugs. Sadly, processed foods are cheaper than fresh foods. I've helped out at food pantries where people had no idea what to do with fresh vegetables bc they didn't have access to them anymore. It's incredibly sad. Do people need to try harder? Yes. But fat shaming is counterproductive and says far more about the person doing the shaming.
I was about to comment on something quite similar. My uncle has great stories from his time here in the US in the 60s and 70s when he was young. He tells us all about their eccentric clothes, foods, hair experiments, funny toys, etc. He even told us kids that back in the 70s there were few obese people walking around, and if you were found walking, you could hitchhike a ride with a neighbour, a friend, a colleague or even with a stranger. I've seen pictures of him, he was tall 6' 2", blonde, hazel eyes, slim and always wearing a cap. Ha! Ha! Nowadays, he is a bit shorter and still slim with some pronounced muscles. He even taught his daughters to cook, exercise, clean, repair a car and other repair skills that will help them upkeep a house someday. For the record, my aunt was working full-time, he took care of the little ones. He did have a remote job from home. He even taught me these skills and I will forever be thankful. Not many parents are willing to put away the tablets, iPads, or phones at the table. Enjoy a small meal as a family, chat about your day, laugh, happy cry, eat some more. I sure hope to hear some laughs from the tables of many families soon. ✌☮

@jlm517rocks That's true. I don't subscribe to that oversaturated group of overeating. I tried it in the past and found out I had ARFID. I have a limited selection of meals I eat today. Can't stand the smell of most foods, especially meats, oils, and highly scented perfumes. Even most sounds get me to cringe, and I wanna go home and put on my headphones. I have seen people overplate their plates. And I wonder, how do you digest that much food in one day? That's a lot of high calories and unhealthy fats. How do you get rid of it after a meal? It's insane to me. I'm not judging or anything. But it's insane how nobody seems to love themselves. They love to consume what's shown to them through advertisements. Rather than healthy eating. As they age, they begin complaining that no one taught them anything and their doctor didn't say anything in the past. Well, perhaps because some of us have to self-educate and learn on the go. Alice I love these lifestyle videos. Do you think that bread in France is so different from bakery bread in the US? There seems to be something different. Also, do older French women find it difficult to stay slim? TIA!
For those of us in perimenopause/menopause, there are a lot of chaotic changes in estrogen, progesterone levels. The principles in Alice’s video appear really helpful. However, for some women in perimenopause or menopause, drops in estrogen and progesterone and testosterone also cause some women after a certain age to begin storing fat in middle section and gaining weight in general and increased difficulties in losing weight, even though weight gain was never a problem before perimenopause. If you are in perimenopause or early menopause, you may find HRT, or hormone replacement therapy helpful. It’s not labeled as a “weight loss medication “ but hormonal shifts during perimenopause can absolutely cause weight gain, so HRT, insofar as it can re-modulate estrogen and progesterone levels, can be an important factor to consider. Sex hormones affect the amount of body fat. For instance, estrogen regulates glucose and lipid metabolism. If you have low estrogen, it can lead to weight gain. For more helpful and medically sound info, check out Dr. Mary Clare Haver, OB/GYN and menopausal health specialist. She has a YT channel and has several books published on diet and health in general for women in perimenopause/menopause.
In the US, sugar is added to nearly every bread, often so much that it qualifies as, and tastes like, cake. I never could stand it! There are still a few traditional sourdough bakeries that don’t add sugar, but only West of the Rockies, from what I’ve seen. When I went to grad school in the Midwest, my Dad brought me fresh sourdough from the airport in San Francisco, home, I missed it so much. We have to notify the big food companies that we don’t want added sugar in bread, and boycott the brands that use it. Since the stupid, unscientific, unhealthy “Low-Fat” craze, brands add more and more sugar to all processed foods, because it’s cheaper than dirt. So, I just don’t buy them. There are many other health risks associated with eating processed foods, but this is the biggest🙂
I couldn’t read the labels on the herbal tea. I couldn’t understand what type of tea or the name brand of the pillow. I would be interested in knowing.
I am beginning to feel patronized and overwhelmed by the message that French women don't get fat. Is it not arrogant to post a picture of someone with belly fat and label it "the world" and then the slim person is French? French women don't diet Really ??? I bet you do diet because by being aware of what and when you eat and portion sizes puts French women firmly in the dieting spectrum but in a positive way. A diet is any food/drink one consumes daily whether it be low fat, high fat low sugar etc. French people have a healthy diet but so do lots of other nations. It hardly warrants permission to dictate to others.

Yes. It has been found that drinking red wine every other week or month is good. In moderation same as food. Beers, ales, and vodka is alright to drink but know your limits. I have been mocked in the past for drinking very little when we went out. Now no one cares, we are responsible adults after all. You can always ask the bartender for a smaller cup of beer or such. There are other non-alcoholic drinks that taste similarly to wines minus the alcohol content. But if you enjoy drinking alcohol, know your limits and enjoy!
Just because it’s a “supplement” it doesn’t mean it’s efficacious or even safe. We omnivores get all the nutrients we need from a variety healthy, natural non-processed foods. Vegans probably need vitamin supplements, ask a doctor.
Drinking juice is not the best option, you omit fibre and then add it as supplements. There are some contradictions in your diet. Otherwise, French diet is no different from general guidelines for a healthy lifestyle. No secrets.
There is nothing contradicting about anything she is saying. Additionally she gets plenty of fiber in her daily diet and has good ideas many don’t or haven’t thought of before. She clearly knows what she is doing. Green juices are used medicinally or for concentrated nutrients; she’s not using them in place of whole salads and whole fruit. And the occasional small amount of high quality sweets keeps one on track in a healthy lifestyle most days. ♥️

If you have low estrogen, it can lead to weight gain. french diet over 50 is coming in the next weeks :) best tips from mum and grandma :)
Can you tell me where you get your cute little jackets from please? Many thanks. Just subscribed x
hello which one?
I couldn’t read the labels on the herbal tea. I couldn’t understand what type of tea or the name brand of the pillow. I would be interested in knowing.

Hi alice. Where did you buy the Fancy PJ

6 months ago I moved to the USA and for the first time I gained 4 kilos. Thank you for all the tips and also for the pillow option to improve sleep
🥰
Where is your lovely pyjama from?

Merci Alice! The word weight is pronounced like wait, easy right?
This is true across the board, not only in France...plus Med diet is not from France...look a bit further south lol
You do know that France is also on the Mediterranean Sea, right? You know that France is sandwiched between Spain and Italy, right?
@@rosethorn0232lol look up at French cuisine and it is nothing like the med diet...also if you have a further look at the North Western part of Italy (which once was part of France) the regional cuisine is typically pretty different from down south. Do your due diligence and you will be amazed at the amount of BS those third class wannabe entertainers throw up on the internet. Have a blast while educating yourself through proper knowledge rather than watching those clowns xo
Do you mean Greece? That is what I think of when I think of the Med diet.
@@LizLyonsPhDSouthern Italy mostly, Greece partially as it is heavily based on meat consumption which is not the building block of the med diet...France for sure not. Check typical French cuisine dishes and it is nothing like the med, Piedmont is influenced by the French cuisine and it is not considered med, despite Piedmont being in Italy. Honesty I don't know why this vid popped on my feed...truly misleading... And annoying...
@@fidgetykoala OK, makes sense. Sicily, Calabria, Naples ...
Thank you. It is so culturally beautiful.
What about wine , Alice?
Best way to sleep well is to sleep by yourself…..especially if you have a snoring husband.
😂
Thank you.
❤
Size and their full lips are the only thing that French women have. I prefer French men
👍🙂
Ma cherie, je t'en prie, try to pronounce "DIET" the right way. The way you pronounce it, it sounds like "DIE" 🥹 Other than that, your accent is supercute, the content is great and I love it!
