I can do both and sometimes, I can even keep a straight face while the funniest thing imaginable is happening in the fanfic, but only sometimes because it's really easy to make me laugh, I can laugh at practically anything

I kinda like the fics where it's like "I don't know if I like you, but I kind of respect you, but that respect is FRAGILE ASF and if you do anything to fck. It. Up. We're done."
@@mistywindow16 it definitely isn't everyone's lol. I should be clear, this isn't the same as Snarry, which is the SHIP SHIP name. Severitus is the familyship name for Harry and Snape. A lot of the good ones I've read revolve around Snape being the one to find Harry at the Mirror of Erisid instead of Dumbledore, or when Harry is in Slytherin instead so it forces Snape to really LOOK at Harry vs just seeing him as James I've YET to see a fic that tackles THAT NIGHT where Snape kills Dumbledore AFTER the two have gotten close which is a SURPRISE because the ANGST would be incredible.

I took the quiz and was surprised at how most of the options were either tragic or smutty. I feel like they could have added a lot more violence. I got 119 "I feel like you're more into fluff and coffee shop AUs". They're kinda right. I don't care for coffee shop AUs but I do prefer Fluff and Humor. I can only take tragic fics in small doses like in a quick character study or as part of a larger adventure/action-y fic. I don't read smut a lot because when I'm too attached to the characters, I tend to not want to see them in sexual scenarios.
Yeah same, I also got 119. I don’t really read ship stuff that much. I love having ships in the fic but with a story that’s not centered solely on the ship. I also read fluff and humor stuff mostly and I’m sucker for time travel, fix its, crossovers, and reaction fics lol
My fan fiction, involving a fire breaking out on a troop carrier and people get burnt alive or jump overboard, get lost at sea, and eventually die alone. Or they get "lucky" and are sucked into the propellers and turned into ground meat. Fun times for all!

Rice purity score was 97, fanfic score for stuff I like reading was 93, score for stuff I *have* read was... 50, but honestly I feel like "God gave you midnight to explore the deep blue sea of ao3" fits best. It's mostly that my things weren't on the list, but there's only so many times you can see certain tags in something you follow before you click on them. I could tell this focused on a particular side of fandom, but trust me, there's so much out there. Rarepairs, cursed ships, so many more kinks than you could imagine, so much gore... so many kinds of gore... Yeah, I've dove pretty deep just for gore. And monsterf*ing. I think people are sleeping on that. The test was very fun though. I liked it.

LOL. But that's why tags are SO important. I once read a mutilation fic which didn't have an appropriate warning tag on it and I was furious. Recommendations/reviews also really helpful to avoid spending too much time reading rubbish (unfortunately, that also means you can end up skipping really good ones too, which is a shame, but we only have so much time). TBH what tends to annoy me a bit is depictions of sex where people have not bothered to look up the mechanics (especially true for m/m) so what is depicted is completely physically unrealistic and therefore not hot.
Yeah, the especially violent and otherwise sus fics need to warn potential viewers... Especially if non-con or worse comes up. While I can handle non-con, sometimes, if someone puts up a fic with an underage character that goes through inappropriate scenarios, I need a warning so that I can skip that fic. I'm a grown adult that isn't interested in underagers in any regard, let alone mature rics. 😬

@@deselbypt1 You can see how some people have just copied each other because the same mistakes crop up over and over. I mean, can’t they even look up the basic plumbing? You cannot reach place X when you enter from Y. And certain equipment does not work the way described. Makes a lot of scenes funny rather than hot. It also reveals instantly that the author was a woman (although it tends to be pretty obvious anyway as they tend to write the relationship in the same way as m/f)

@@dajtoad1 also, hard agree on the last part. i've seen (straight) female writers who've written gay relationships beautifully, but a lot of the time it's painfully stereotypical, even if you ignore the physical impossibilities. most of the time they end up with the 'strong, tall, dominant, masculine, "alpha male" top' and 'small, fragile, submissive, feminine bottom' and it gets so repetitive. i mean, sure, there are definitely queer men out there who fall into one of those categories, but what about literally anyone else? sometimes i genuinely get the feeling that their heads would explode if you explained the concept of a power bottom or a switch to them.
Absolutely! In RL, big, big turn off. But in fanfic, great. And that's one of the reasons we read it - a published book would get criticised off the shelves for depicting something like that, but fanfic enjoyment can be different. It's not necessarily supposed to depict anything realistic.
I kinda like the "Character A gets married but not to character B" trope when Character A isn't really inlove with anyone at the start of the fic despite feeling like they should be inlove with the one they're engaged to, then they run away not long before the wedding and run into/meet Character B and then after a day or two they're like, 'Oh. So this is what love feels like.'
In normal daily life I'm such a non-romantic person that people would probably be confused to see how much cheesy romance stuff my Ao3 bookmarks contain.

I got a 6, but I've also been in fandom for almost 25 years, have very few triggers, and am willing to test the strength of my squicks. I have seen a lot of things, and a lot of it was before ratings and warnings were anywhere close to as standardized as they are now.
I just took the test and scored a 105. It literally told me “You do not read fanfiction”. I’m don’t know whether to be offended or not lol. Even though I have accounts and post stories on FFN, Wattpad, and AO3. And also DeviantArt. To be fair, and as an asexual person who is somewhat sex repulsed, I don’t read a lot of smut. When I do, I prefer smut that doesn’t go into a lot of detail or has a lot of the stuff the list mentioned cause a lot of stuff, like kinks, use of objects, etc, grosses me out. Nor do I read Omegaverse fanfiction cause 1.) my main fandom doesn’t have any and 2.) it’s just not my thing.
That is exactly how I am. I much more prefer if it focuses on their emotions and how much they care for each other than what they are doing. There are stories that I have intentionally forgotten because the smut was too explicit for me.

@@noonespecial-wq5bk I’m afraid there’s not really a reliable way to get them, I usually find them by accident. Your best bet is to find a fic including the relationship, without any mentioned other characters, and with a major character death or implied/referenced character death tag

I'm in the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom and am one of many Soukoku enthusiasts. most of this test encapsulates things that occur there - enemies but not, suicide, pushing the other away because of fear of losing them, being left behind, one recovers and the other doesnt, miscommunication should be their ship name, etc. I got a score of 23.

Self Inserts tend to be hits or misses. I think it really depends on the author. For example, Tsume_Yuki produces exceptional work and I am legitimately in mourning for days after she grows uninspired and slows down her updates for her fics.

Okay, so I got 80 when I checked what I actually love in a fic. I got 57 when I checked what I might find interesting depending on how it was used in the fic. Lastly, I got 22 when I checked the boxes because I've read a fic with that tag/trope involved at least once due to my morbid curiosity 🤣. Also, when I checked the "can read smut everywhere", I meant it. I read it while on public transport, on a celebration (new year, christmas, or funeral, you name it, I probably read a fic with smut while that's happening). As well as even when I'm seating/standing close to a stranger, friend, or family (where they can technically get a glimpse of what I'm reading). The only place I wasn't able to read was on church, not because of some religious guilt, but because the priest is actually good and entertaining. Like our priest has a pretty realistic view about things, where he never goes overboard about stuff (like "if you do this, you're going to hell" kind of stuff) and he even does some jokes that are actually funny. Though, I admit my thoughts can go wild.😅

I took the quiz as a general statement of what I read in general, not just fanfiction (since I only read like three of them and they’re all wholesome/fluff stuff or about camaraderie, friendship and found families) and the score was pretty accurate I have to say (I’ll actively seek out a good coffee shop AU). I am interested in sending this to my friends or my sister though, who reads far more fanfiction than I do. Hoping the creators will do one more towards less romance-aspect stories/fics because I’m sure I’ve seen (and sometimes, rather guiltily, actively seek out) angsty stuff from time to time.

These strongly remind me of the one fandom I'm in where these tropes (SOMETIMES COMBINED) are somewhat for fanfics with this one character but I haven't read them yet because I haven't gotten to that point in the series and I don't want to spoil it any further for myself... That being said, I am very excited to get to that point so I maybe just maybe checked them both off.
i find the 'they don't get to confess before they die' question hilarious as an RtC fan. i read a decent ammount of Nischa fics and unless it's an AU (specifically, one where they didn't die on the Cyclone), there's no possible way for the characters to _ever_ confess before dying. That doesn't at all stop the characters from confessing AFTER death, though. in fact, it's like one of the two most common circumstances of confessions for these characters Also, there's a similar kind of 'seems like a sad ending fic but it's actually not' in the circumstance of the '[character] sits by their grave' one in the case of fics about pieces of media where a character canonically fakes their own death i tend to read a lot of these fics because i like bittersweetness but mostly i just wanna see characters in love
My fanfic tastes are usually pretty wholesome, but there are exceptions. Take last summer when I had Covid. I binged so many Genshin x reader hanahaki fics because I had the worst cough and wanted to make it beautiful.
I feel like for me, the 'whump' one should've been double the points or more lol. I've looooved whump since I was a kid without knowing it was whump, I love it more than angst. I know angst is an umbrella that whump does fall under, but I prefer the physical pain to emotional pain. Make the character get beat up or hurt to the point of delirium or near-death, and then slowly get taken care of. It's also why i like hurt/comfort

This can be from many things such as illness, physical harm, psychological harm etc. Whump can also just be the character being hurt with nothing else, which usually gets tagged as ‘hurt no comfort’, and it’s a genre used to experience catharsis
I actually ended up agreeing with like..all of your choices. Except the a/b/o and related questions. Also, ive only read one really damn good mpreg story (not specifically fanfic) and my god as much as i dont like mpreg that was one of the best things ive read. It was so well done for a wattpad book. Still love little Treasure. Adorable.

There are some where he kinda does a total 180 on Harry which I just don't buy. Granted it's over the course of the fic, but still. I kinda like the fics where it's like "I don't know if I like you, but I kind of respect you, but that respect is FRAGILE ASF and if you do anything to fck. It. Up. We're done."

@@mistywindow16 it definitely isn't everyone's lol. I should be clear, this isn't the same as Snarry, which is the SHIP SHIP name. Severitus is the familyship name for Harry and Snape. A lot of the good ones I've read revolve around Snape being the one to find Harry at the Mirror of Erisid instead of Dumbledore, or when Harry is in Slytherin instead so it forces Snape to really LOOK at Harry vs just seeing him as James I've YET to see a fic that tackles THAT NIGHT where Snape kills Dumbledore AFTER the two have gotten close which is a SURPRISE because the ANGST would be incredible.

I took the quiz and was surprised at how most of the options were either tragic or smutty. I feel like they could have added a lot more violence. I got 119 "I feel like you're more into fluff and coffee shop AUs". They're kinda right. I don't care for coffee shop AUs but I do prefer Fluff and Humor. I can only take tragic fics in small doses like in a quick character study or as part of a larger adventure/action-y fic.

Rice purity score was 97, fanfic score for stuff I like reading was 93, score for stuff I *have* read was... 50, but honestly I feel like "God gave you midnight to explore the deep blue sea of ao3" fits best. It's mostly that my things weren't on the list, but there's only so many times you can see certain tags in something you follow before you click on them.
I could tell this focused on a particular side of fandom, but trust me, there's so much out there. Rarepairs, cursed ships, so many more kinks than you could imagine, so much gore... so many kinds of gore... Yeah, I've dove pretty deep just for gore. And monsterf*ing. I think people are sleeping on that.

LOL. But that's why tags are SO important. I once read a mutilation fic which didn't have an appropriate warning tag on it and I was furious. Recommendations/reviews also really helpful to avoid spending too much time reading rubbish (unfortunately, that also means you can end up skipping really good ones too, which is a shame, but we only have so much time). TBH what tends to annoy me a bit is depictions of sex where people have not bothered to look up the mechanics (especially true for m/m) so what is depicted is completely physically unrealistic and therefore not hot.
Yeah, the especially violent and otherwise sus fics need to warn potential viewers... Especially if non-con or worse comes up.
While I can handle non-con, sometimes, if someone puts up a fic with an underage character that goes through inappropriate scenarios, I need a warning so that I can skip that fic. I'm a grown adult that isn't interested in underagers in any regard, let alone mature rics. 😬

You cannot reach place X when you enter from Y. And certain equipment does not work the way described. Makes a lot of scenes funny rather than hot. It also reveals instantly that the author was a woman (although it tends to be pretty obvious anyway as they tend to write the relationship in the same way as m/f)

@@dajtoad1 also, hard agree on the last part. i've seen (straight) female writers who've written gay relationships beautifully, but a lot of the time it's painfully stereotypical, even if you ignore the physical impossibilities. most of the time they end up with the 'strong, tall, dominant, masculine, "alpha male" top' and 'small, fragile, submissive, feminine bottom' and it gets so repetitive. i mean, sure, there are definitely queer men out there who fall into one of those categories, but what about literally anyone else? sometimes i genuinely get the feeling that their heads would explode if you explained the concept of a power bottom or a switch to them.

Absolutely! In RL, big, big turn off. But in fanfic, great. And that's one of the reasons we read it - a published book would get criticised off the shelves for depicting something like that, but fanfic enjoyment can be different. It's not necessarily supposed to depict anything realistic.
I kinda like the "Character A gets married but not to character B" trope when Character A isn't really inlove with anyone at the start of the fic despite feeling like they should be inlove with the one they're engaged to, then they run away not long before the wedding and run into/meet Character B and then after a day or two they're like, 'Oh. So this is what love feels like.'

"Becoming a fanfic author because no one wrote what you wanted to read" I do, in fact, have the honor of writing several fics for my pairing on Ao3 before anyone else joined me.
Can’t take the quiz rn but interested to see my score because my taste tends to run towards either “the relationship is the least of why I’m reading this” or “the filthiest smut available” with little in between.

I got a 6, but I've also been in fandom for almost 25 years, have very few triggers, and am willing to test the strength of my squicks. I have seen a lot of things, and a lot of it was before ratings and warnings were anywhere close to as standardized as they are now.

I just took the test and scored a 105. It literally told me “You do not read fanfiction”. I’m don’t know whether to be offended or not lol. Even though I have accounts and post stories on FFN, Wattpad, and AO3. And also DeviantArt.
To be fair, and as an asexual person who is somewhat sex repulsed, I don’t read a lot of smut. When I do, I prefer smut that doesn’t go into a lot of detail or has a lot of the stuff the list mentioned cause a lot of stuff, like kinks, use of objects, etc, grosses me out. Nor do I read Omegaverse fanfiction cause 1.) my main fandom doesn’t have any and 2.) it’s just not my thing.

That is exactly how I am. I much more prefer if it focuses on their emotions and how much they care for each other than what they are doing. There are stories that I have intentionally forgotten because the smut was too explicit for me.

My score is '5: God is watching you'. I am not proud, but not surprised, I have scoured the bottom of the barrel of 3 not so popular/active fandom and I have shoved them all straight down my throat because of how little fanfics there are left. I have also scoured an extremely popular and active fandom and have drowned in the fics, because some of them were just that good.
I love how they put Slow Burn at the end, it took forever to get to it. 🤣

I got 103, 'you're probably more into fluff and coffee shop aus' I mean, I gravitate toward hurt/comfort, so a lot of really long angst fics, but I avoid smut like the plague. As for fluff, it depends on my mood. Escapism can be as miserable or wholesome as my mental state dictates. :)

i don't read super hardcore stuff but i can totally read spicy stuff or painful angst and be just fine but the hopeless romantic in my will not be able to restrain myself if characters are being to cute and sweet with each other

@@noonespecial-wq5bk I’m afraid there’s not really a reliable way to get them, I usually find them by accident. Your best bet is to find a fic including the relationship, without any mentioned other characters, and with a major character death or implied/referenced character death tag

I'm in the Bungou Stray Dogs fandom and am one of many Soukoku enthusiasts. most of this test encapsulates things that occur there - enemies but not, suicide, pushing the other away because of fear of losing them, being left behind, one recovers and the other doesnt, miscommunication should be their ship name, etc. I got a score of 23.

Self Inserts tend to be hits or misses. I think it really depends on the author. For example, Tsume_Yuki produces exceptional work and I am legitimately in mourning for days after she grows uninspired and slows down her updates for her fics.

Okay, so I got 80 when I checked what I actually love in a fic. I got 57 when I checked what I might find interesting depending on how it was used in the fic. Lastly, I got 22 when I checked the boxes because I've read a fic with that tag/trope involved at least once due to my morbid curiosity 🤣. Also, when I checked the "can read smut everywhere", I meant it. I read it while on public transport, on a celebration (new year, christmas, or funeral, you name it, I probably read a fic with smut while that's happening). As well as even when I'm seating/standing close to a stranger, friend, or family (where they can technically get a glimpse of what I'm reading). The only place I wasn't able to read was on church, not because of some religious guilt, but because the priest is actually good and entertaining. Like our priest has a pretty realistic view about things, where he never goes overboard about stuff (like "if you do this, you're going to hell" kind of stuff) and he even does some jokes that are actually funny. Though, I admit my thoughts can go wild.😅
I got a 90, "you probably only read one fic and probably against your will", I actually read a good amount but it is possible that my tastes are so out of pocket that the test thought that I couldn't be reading that stuff of my own volition lol 😅
Edit: it appears that most of the people who got similar scores as me only got them because they don't do smut. I find this funny because I avoided a lot of angst related stuff and selected most the smut options lol.

I took the quiz as a general statement of what I read in general, not just fanfiction (since I only read like three of them and they’re all wholesome/fluff stuff or about camaraderie, friendship and found families) and the score was pretty accurate I have to say (I’ll actively seek out a good coffee shop AU). I am interested in sending this to my friends or my sister though, who reads far more fanfiction than I do. Hoping the creators will do one more towards less romance-aspect stories/fics because I’m sure I’ve seen (and sometimes, rather guiltily, actively seek out) angsty stuff from time to time.
OMG i just remembered the trenches i was in as a tween, I didn't know what fanfiction was but I was obsessed with those bkdk texting stories on youtube. like I was full on reading bkdk smut at the age of 12 on youtube somehow, I remember one were todoroki was the fowl to the ship and he got thrown into a garbage truck omg. 😭

These strongly remind me of the one fandom I'm in where these tropes (SOMETIMES COMBINED) are somewhat for fanfics with this one character but I haven't read them yet because I haven't gotten to that point in the series and I don't want to spoil it any further for myself... That being said, I am very excited to get to that point so I maybe just maybe checked them both off.

i find the 'they don't get to confess before they die' question hilarious as an RtC fan. i read a decent ammount of Nischa fics and unless it's an AU (specifically, one where they didn't die on the Cyclone), there's no possible way for the characters to _ever_ confess before dying. That doesn't at all stop the characters from confessing AFTER death, though. in fact, it's like one of the two most common circumstances of confessions for these characters
Also, there's a similar kind of 'seems like a sad ending fic but it's actually not' in the circumstance of the '[character] sits by their grave' one in the case of fics about pieces of media where a character canonically fakes their own death
i tend to read a lot of these fics because i like bittersweetness but mostly i just wanna see characters in love
My fanfic tastes are usually pretty wholesome, but there are exceptions. Take last summer when I had Covid. I binged so many Genshin x reader hanahaki fics because I had the worst cough and wanted to make it beautiful.

I feel like for me, the 'whump' one should've been double the points or more lol. I've looooved whump since I was a kid without knowing it was whump, I love it more than angst. I know angst is an umbrella that whump does fall under, but I prefer the physical pain to emotional pain. Make the character get beat up or hurt to the point of delirium or near-death, and then slowly get taken care of.
It's also why i like hurt/comfort

@@c0zmozys Whump is basically just content of a character being harmed, and subsequently recovering. This can be from many things such as illness, physical harm, psychological harm etc.
Whump can also just be the character being hurt with nothing else, which usually gets tagged as ‘hurt no comfort’, and it’s a genre used to experience catharsis
