Absolutely insane to me that fans of this series, who have had to wait a decade for pikmin 3, followed by a decade for pikmin 4, who KNOW that the series needs more fans to be successful and thrive immediately respond to a new player with rampant misogyny intended to push them away from the series. There are very few games like this one; even somebody who's played games their entire life is going to struggle at first until they get the hang of this.

People forget how hard it is the first time you play one of these games, they are SO unique. In the original Pikmin, it was often likely a new player would be close to a total game over, if they didn't actually get it

The Piklopedia articles over (and general nature of) the Wraiths helps us paint a... dark picture... about their collective past. First let's take into account what the word "Wraith" even means: _"a ghost or ghostlike image of someone, especially one seen shortly before or after their death."_ Already a pretty grim image, right off the bat. Also take into note the fact that the Wraiths seem (so far) to be the *only humanoid creatures in the entirety of the Pikmin series.* This, compounded with the Waterwraith's _scientific name_ (courtesy of Pikmin 2's Piklopedia) being Amphibio _Sapiens_ makes it hard not to see Wraiths for what they once were. *Human.* The Wraiths are humans who had met their makers. Died. Somehow, through observation of the nature of the Wraiths, it gets worse! That would be enough detail if it were just the stone-cold, steamrolling machine fans fear it as. However, things aren't as they initially appear with the Waterwraith. This is because the _second_ you remove its rollers, its mannerism changes *entirely.* It *runs* from you once rendered defenseless, babbling out calls for help from someone that isn't there. The song that plays labels its dying breath a "pitiful escape", and if left alone it will put its hands at its knees and gasp for air... It dies with its arms outstretched for _help._ This is an inexperienced wraith. A cowardly wraith, who drowned in a presumable past life and died begging for help in the next. _The Waterwraith might have been a child._ ...Feeling jovial? I'd bet, after that happy little tale. Now, let's aim our sights at the new one. The one that our dear first-timer here got the joy of experiencing firsthand, completely blind. Let's turn our sights now to the *Plasm Wraith*. First I'll give some lore, just to refresh, and then I'll explain what *I* personally think it means in conjunction with the Waterwraith's lore. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- The Plasm Wraith. Found in Pikmin 3's Formidable Oak. This is the second Wraith, and whilst _potentially_ not sharing that "Sapiens" name with the Waterwraith, the resemblances between the two are uncanny. (Any genus for the Plasm Wraith in Pikmin 3's Piklopedia is simply marked "unknown".) They're both mysterious, humanoid behemoths that seemingly break every rule in the book for your standard Pikmin enemy. This Wraith is... caring? Towards Olimar..? Showing compassion(?) and tending to him as best it can, even going so far as to give the resting Hocotatian a little leaf bed to slumber upon. It's noted as not showcasing any _ill will_ towards the captain; however the second he marks an escape the Wraith is *right* on his tail, ultimately bringing him back to the exact same spot atop the Formidable Oak day.. after day... after day. When Olimar is stolen from it, the Plasm Wraith goes into a capital-F _Frenzy_ trying to find him. Within the Formidable Oak, its high-pitched wails are heard echoing through the catacombs as you dash for your escape. And when you inevitably do get out of the cave, the Plasm Wraith's last stand against you is truly something to behold. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- But why does it do all this? While not ever outright called out in the Piklopedia, there's definitely something to be said about the way the Plasm Wraith acts towards Olimar. If I may go out on a limb, I'd say it's almost... maternal. Think about it. Caressing him when asleep, preparing a leaf bed for him, *going absolutely feral when "its child" is taken away from it*... it adds up. Captain Charlie jests in the Piklopedia about the Wraith's motivations being of a more romantic origin, but... keep the _Waterwraith_ in mind. Potentially a child in its pre-wraith times, cowardly and scared, drowning with no one to help it. If the only other Wraith in the series is the child, then.. that kind of leads to the other Wraith being the mother. ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- ----- So, we've got a drowned child and a dead mother. Lovely. But there's one more way to twist this knife, and it involves the strange hole in the Plasm Wraith's head. We know how the Waterwraith died from context clues alone, but... how did the Plasm Wraith die? Olimar, the guy who got captured by the thing, the guy who spent more time analyzing it than he would have *ever* wanted to, marks in Pikmin 3's Piklopedia that the hole in the PW's face could potentially be a "manifested psychic wound". A drowned child... a distraught mother... A Waterwraith and a Plasm Wraith with a hole, a manifested wound, going clear through her head... It's easy to let your imagination fill in those bloody details. It's easy to see the Wraith Family Theory.
I doubt the Water Wraith was a child... Regardless of whether you're a child or an adult, you would freak out like that too if you were suddenly defenseless against an army of small creatures that can literally beat you into the physical dimension with no way of fighting back. Plus its sound effects sound like a distorted and gurgling adult man.
trauma is the core part of any pikmin fan. seeing these small cute creatures die en masse is the saddest thing ever, sub is definitely there tho, very entertaining video. been playing pikmin since 2009, super enjoyable series and you should totally try out the other 2!

im really glad that people are starting to play pikmin for the first time. Ive been playing this seiries for over half my life and i have never gotten bored of them. I have 200 hours in over all the games each( excluding hey pikmin.) but they are all always a blast to play. ima bit late to this video but i hope you play all of the pikmin games and enjoy them all!
it's always refreshing to see people try pikmin for the first time, it reminds me of playing it for the first time myself when i was younger and puts into perspective how hard the game can be sometimes. when you've been playin the games since you were a kid it can be easy to forget that pikmin's honestly a bit scary! gonna have to check out your pikmin 2 vods to see how well you fared with the cruelest of the games :]

I love Pikmin but unfortunately couldn't see most of it live, glad you cut this recap! It's funny how the sensitivity of a dead Pikmin decreases more and more from beginning to end and also more and more die (the bomb moments were intense), but I think that happens to everyone :D I can definitely recommend the other two Pikmin parts and Pikmin 4 has also been talked about for years and I have a feeling something is coming soon, it's about time LUL
It always felt like the Pikmin community was small and niche when I was growing up, but with Pikmin 4 around the corner and the amount of Pikmin content I’ve been seeing, I couldn’t be more wrong. This was an hour of pure nostalgia you let me relive through you, so from little teenage me, thank you so much. I’ll admit I even got a bit emotional at the end reliving that goodbye with the Pikmin I experienced back in 2013. Glad to see new players discovering and experiencing the game I grew up with and loved. I’m super glad this got recommended to me. I hope to see more when Pikmin 4 comes out next Friday, I’ll definitely be there live! ^^

Seeing you figure things out was so much fun, if people want to see someone play it super well they should watch a speed runner. Blind playthroughs are for seeing people learn.

Honestly, its kinda good Pikmin 3 was the only one on switch for awhile, it is by far the easiest one and it's really great to see newcomers play it, hopefully that means we won't have to wait ten years for a new Pikmin game after 4 😅
I'm a long time Pikmin fan and watching this reminded me of playing Pikmin 3 on Wii U for the first time, in the best way! It's definitely got a learning curve but these are some of my favorite games and I'm glad you had a good time :) hopefully you go back and try Pikmin 1 and 2 after 4! They're rougher around the edges compared to 3 but still really fun experiences and some of my favorite games.

I recently discovered your channel and tbh I binge watched all your pikmin 3 VODs and starting with the pikmin 2 ones. Props to you for making some really interesting gameplay while still managing to not completely annihilate your soldiers. As a tip for Pikmin 2, don't feel ashamed to restart cave levels after a big loss cus it's really unfair at times when going blind, it might help for a less stressful experience!

I just bought Pikmin 4 and I’ve been absolutely loving it so far! I was worried it would be too easy(like they catered the new game to first time kid players) after playing the demo level, but it REALLY picks up in difficulty the very next stage

I first played Pikmin on the Wii (the first one in the series) back in 2009, I was only 11 years old, and I instantly loved the game, even though it kinda was a horror game to me too 😂 I lost so many pikmin, sadly. Seeing you playing it for the first time reminded me of that time. I hope you play the first two games too, and also Pikmin 4! I am very excited for it
Yep, it doesn't matter which game you start with, the 1st experience is always like this "ahhh its such an adorable world, so pretty" followed by "OMG wtf happen to cute & adorable game!" And ending that 1st playthrough with hundreds dead. Good times.

i found this video a while ago, and i must say, this was so painfully fun to watch!!! i have been playing games from this franchise for so long i forget how devastating and horrifying this game can be to beginners, and even to me. it's fine to lose hundreds of pikmin, that's part of the experience, so dont worry, you will get better and better at managing your little army and avoiding many casualties, as well as the multi-tasking itself. i really hope to see you play more pikmin in the future, especially 2 :).

...Feeling jovial? I'd bet, after that happy little tale. Now, let's aim our sights at the new one. The one that our dear first-timer here got the joy of experiencing firsthand, completely blind. Let's turn our sights now to the *Plasm Wraith*. First I'll give some lore, just to refresh, and then I'll explain what *I* personally think it means in conjunction with the Waterwraith's lore.

The Plasm Wraith. Found in Pikmin 3's Formidable Oak. This is the second Wraith, and whilst _potentially_ not sharing that "Sapiens" name with the Waterwraith, the resemblances between the two are uncanny. (Any genus for the Plasm Wraith in Pikmin 3's Piklopedia is simply marked "unknown".) They're both mysterious, humanoid behemoths that seemingly break every rule in the book for your standard Pikmin enemy.
This Wraith is... caring? Towards Olimar..? Showing compassion(?) and tending to him as best it can, even going so far as to give the resting Hocotatian a little leaf bed to slumber upon. It's noted as not showcasing any _ill will_ towards the captain; however the second he marks an escape the Wraith is *right* on his tail, ultimately bringing him back to the exact same spot atop the Formidable Oak day.. after day... after day.
When Olimar is stolen from it, the Plasm Wraith goes into a capital-F _Frenzy_ trying to find him. Within the Formidable Oak, its high-pitched wails are heard echoing through the catacombs as you dash for your escape. And when you inevitably do get out of the cave, the Plasm Wraith's last stand against you is truly something to behold.

But why does it do all this?
While not ever outright called out in the Piklopedia, there's definitely something to be said about the way the Plasm Wraith acts towards Olimar. If I may go out on a limb, I'd say it's almost... maternal. Think about it. Caressing him when asleep, preparing a leaf bed for him, *going absolutely feral when "its child" is taken away from it*... it adds up.
Captain Charlie jests in the Piklopedia about the Wraith's motivations being of a more romantic origin, but... keep the _Waterwraith_ in mind. Potentially a child in its pre-wraith times, cowardly and scared, drowning with no one to help it. If the only other Wraith in the series is the child, then.. that kind of leads to the other Wraith being the mother.

So, we've got a drowned child and a dead mother. Lovely. But there's one more way to twist this knife, and it involves the strange hole in the Plasm Wraith's head. We know how the Waterwraith died from context clues alone, but... how did the Plasm Wraith die?
Olimar, the guy who got captured by the thing, the guy who spent more time analyzing it than he would have *ever* wanted to, marks in Pikmin 3's Piklopedia that the hole in the PW's face could potentially be a "manifested psychic wound".
A drowned child... a distraught mother...
A Waterwraith and a Plasm Wraith with a hole, a manifested wound, going clear through her head...
It's easy to let your imagination fill in those bloody details.
It's easy to see the Wraith Family Theory.

I doubt the Water Wraith was a child... Regardless of whether you're a child or an adult, you would freak out like that too if you were suddenly defenseless against an army of small creatures that can literally beat you into the physical dimension with no way of fighting back.
Plus its sound effects sound like a distorted and gurgling adult man.

im really glad that people are starting to play pikmin for the first time. Ive been playing this seiries for over half my life and i have never gotten bored of them. I have 200 hours in over all the games each( excluding hey pikmin.) but they are all always a blast to play. ima bit late to this video but i hope you play all of the pikmin games and enjoy them all!

it's always refreshing to see people try pikmin for the first time, it reminds me of playing it for the first time myself when i was younger and puts into perspective how hard the game can be sometimes. when you've been playin the games since you were a kid it can be easy to forget that pikmin's honestly a bit scary! gonna have to check out your pikmin 2 vods to see how well you fared with the cruelest of the games :]

I love Pikmin but unfortunately couldn't see most of it live, glad you cut this recap! It's funny how the sensitivity of a dead Pikmin decreases more and more from beginning to end and also more and more die (the bomb moments were intense), but I think that happens to everyone :D
I can definitely recommend the other two Pikmin parts and Pikmin 4 has also been talked about for years and I have a feeling something is coming soon, it's about time LUL
It always felt like the Pikmin community was small and niche when I was growing up, but with Pikmin 4 around the corner and the amount of Pikmin content I’ve been seeing, I couldn’t be more wrong. This was an hour of pure nostalgia you let me relive through you, so from little teenage me, thank you so much. I’ll admit I even got a bit emotional at the end reliving that goodbye with the Pikmin I experienced back in 2013. Glad to see new players discovering and experiencing the game I grew up with and loved. I’m super glad this got recommended to me. I hope to see more when Pikmin 4 comes out next Friday, I’ll definitely be there live! ^^

Honestly, its kinda good Pikmin 3 was the only one on switch for awhile, it is by far the easiest one and it's really great to see newcomers play it, hopefully that means we won't have to wait ten years for a new Pikmin game after 4 😅
I'm a long time Pikmin fan and watching this reminded me of playing Pikmin 3 on Wii U for the first time, in the best way! It's definitely got a learning curve but these are some of my favorite games and I'm glad you had a good time :) hopefully you go back and try Pikmin 1 and 2 after 4! They're rougher around the edges compared to 3 but still really fun experiences and some of my favorite games.

I recently discovered your channel and tbh I binge watched all your pikmin 3 VODs and starting with the pikmin 2 ones. Props to you for making some really interesting gameplay while still managing to not completely annihilate your soldiers.
As a tip for Pikmin 2, don't feel ashamed to restart cave levels after a big loss cus it's really unfair at times when going blind, it might help for a less stressful experience!

I just bought Pikmin 4 and I’ve been absolutely loving it so far! I was worried it would be too easy(like they catered the new game to first time kid players) after playing the demo level, but it REALLY picks up in difficulty the very next stage

I first played Pikmin on the Wii (the first one in the series) back in 2009, I was only 11 years old, and I instantly loved the game, even though it kinda was a horror game to me too 😂 I lost so many pikmin, sadly. Seeing you playing it for the first time reminded me of that time. I hope you play the first two games too, and also Pikmin 4! I am very excited for it

Yep, it doesn't matter which game you start with, the 1st experience is always like this "ahhh its such an adorable world, so pretty" followed by "OMG wtf happen to cute & adorable game!" And ending that 1st playthrough with hundreds dead. Good times.

i found this video a while ago, and i must say, this was so painfully fun to watch!!! i have been playing games from this franchise for so long i forget how devastating and horrifying this game can be to beginners, and even to me.
it's fine to lose hundreds of pikmin, that's part of the experience, so dont worry, you will get better and better at managing your little army and avoiding many casualties, as well as the multi-tasking itself.
