Something I noticed is that when you're in a fight, you have gotten in to the habit of attacking after your opponent's first attack in their combo, regardless of whether your block was successful or not. This happens when you are focussed on their swing animation, not listening for the sound of a combo reset. I noticed this happens 3 times in the cleric fight at 10:50 , 11:00 and 11:07. It may be because you are very confident with blocking maces, almost taking it for granted that his attack will be blocked and you will have a window afterwards, but it seemed to be significant in the result of the fight. Thanks for another great video, dying so that we may live. It's always great to see you have uploaded, looking forward to the next one.
you are bang-on! it's a combination of me being too eager and not paying attention to their spacing.. I think I assume they are closer and will hit my shield and don't wait for the actual visual/audio confirmation of the block.. a work in progress, to be sure! great comment & always nice to see you friend!
Imo as a shield fighter as previous druid main I would just say use your block and try to get pretty close to his face because you can just keep blocking all of his attacks against a bear and he will eventually run out of heals which might cause him to play worse if not then change location to somewhere in your favor if possible, such as a large open room with no layers so you have a chance to catch them if they run. If you do hurt them to that point they will often just run and portal if you can't catch them
Man that cleric nuke timing was spot on. I totally agree too, the losses should be shared. TH-camrs love to curate their content because wins generate views, but that doesn't help viewers learn nearly as much as genuinely seeing the ups and downs that the player is going through, and how they overcome those low points *edit* posted the original comment too soon. reviewing footage is much better than what I used to do, which was just try to remember what happened.. haha. also helpful to study the attack animations in slower motion, as I find that has really helped me identify certain actions in the heat of the moment!

"Losing fights and dying is a huge part of Dark and Darker" - As someone who has put many hours into the longsword, I want to say that couldn't be more true. Get your reps in boys and don't worry if you lose a kit, that's what they are there for.
heya Sookie! yeah can't imagine the number of deaths required to even get half-good at longsword! massive respect for your skills brother!! I still remember seeing your parry-off-the-skelly friend videos from back in the Ruins map. some of the most impressive melee stuff I've ever seen in DaD!
Pretty sure the impact damage instant kills too. Has to be the hardest counter in the game lol, but pretty easy to avoid, just don't go rat in front of someone
really love your videos, excited to finally check out the most recent ones. out of curiosity have you experimented with perfect blocking/parrying (not the fighter active skill, but as a mechanic)? not sure if you've mentioned it before - basically, if you release right click and press left click *just a hair before* the enemy hit would make contact with your shield, you can instantly swing while your opponent is staggered, which can be useful against higher dex/fast recovery weapons. i think it gets into broken territory with high impact resistances like the buckler (although obviously super risky to go for with that specific shield) but you can even do it with bardiches and spears also do you ever do viewer games? :)
thanks for the comment! yea I've been lucky to randomly get the shield parry during fights (releasing block just before the attack lands) and other viewers have pointed out in certain videos where I did it without realizing it. so I can see the technique, but tbh have not tried to work it into my regular combat strat because it's way too finnicky and I don't want to gamble on taking more damage than I have to.. IMO it's better to play it safer & slower, and use a combination of spacing/timing and other techniques to score hits, rather than risk a nearly frame-perfect move that doesn't offer something I could get otherwise. hope that makes sense! and yes, I totally play with YT commenters and have had a great time meeting people from this platform -- my account name in DaD is blinn, so shoot me a friend invite. happy to run 2 fighters in duos, or play with any other class you prefer!
Edit: just realized you pointed out the ranged damage a few seconds after lol oops 11:42 I think another great takeaway here is you could have totally gone for some chip damage with the bow considering the amount of space you have. You can start off the fight at an advantage if anything and have them push you or them being a cleric maybe waste more heal casts. Otherwise great commentary and analysis!
Hi I love your vids so far as someone who has been playing since playtest 3 with my main class being sword and shield fighter and I have played through many iterations of fighter and I just wanted to know how many hours you have on dark and darker for and for the druid fight at around 24:10 personally I would say that pulling out your ranged weapon is better than trying to fight a bear form druid because the bear head hitbox is big and with good spacing you can't really get punished
yeah, good call on better spacing vs the bear.. my only concern is if I pull back to pull out my bow, that means I don't have my shield.. afraid the druid would just switch to panther to punish the fact that I'm not on melee.. they just have so much mobility and control that I sometimes feel more comfortable trying to block the bear attacks, rather than die with a recurve in my hands haha as for my hours in the game, let's just say it's over 500 :)
It's great that you're doing this despite the discomfort. However, I don't think you have to be uncomfortable about it. No one expects you to be the best player who never fails - that would be unrealistic. I can see that you appreciate other players' skills by calling good games out, so this shows strength of personality!
in my first two days of playing this game, just two weeks ago, i saw a druid go into rat form from halfway across a room. I took a hail mary shot with my crossbow and nailed him. He was in full purple gear (i was probably like score 60 or so, like a random green weapon or something) made my day honestly lmao
WARLOCKS. hahaha tricky because it depends on the build you are facing. Casters = try to use your shield to block their curses. Demon form = use the shield to play really defensively (since they lose hp per second). Phatomize = carry firepots :) But generally speaking, warlock is one of the toughest classes for fighters to go up against. will hopefully have some vid content on it soon!
I think you are getting a lot of good blocks but the range difference between your mace and for example the clerics morning star or the fighters falchion makes your counter attacks miss some times. I think you talked about some issues about spacing just wanted to say that part of that is learning to block very close to your enemy to enable your counter attack to hit. Blocking in very close range also has the benefit of lowering the impact power of attacks. Very important when fighting barbs with crush. Otherwhise blocking their attacks will not benefit you in terms of counter damage. Great Video anyways :D edit. holy moly the fight agains the dagger plate fighter looked like two hits just went through your shield in melee maybe im wrong on taking it to close range. I think the rondel and the first hit of the rapier have such a fast stab that it sometimes glitches through the shield. Saw that on some reddit video some time ago maybe it already got fixed tho and im just coping haha.
def saw that same video about the rapier/rondel/crystal sword clipping through the shield! sadly just part of the game :( and REALLY GREAT advice about getting closer to get the 'hilt' (handle) blocks, because of the reduced impact power of the handles... I need to follow that advice more!! thanks for your comment :)
what do you think of the fighter class in the current state? i'm playing a lot with the class and it feels like a no spells version of the cleric. a weaker version. am i wrong? what do i miss?
I'm loving fighter in its current state. IMO it has advantages over Cleric because of the armor/weapons/stats available. I can make a build that moves fast, swings fast, and has viable ranged damage (which I'm learning to use to greater affect these days). cleric has spells & buffs, sure, but is starved for ranged damage and movespeed, which is a big issue in solos (where I spend the majority of my time)!
in a straight up fight where a cleric can get all of his buffs off and you can't kite away, he is probably the single strongest class, even better than barb. But the lack of missiles and immobility means an opponent can play around that pretty effectively.
As uncomfortable as it may be, you're doing the right thing. This game is super unforgiving, nobody is holding anyones hand. But this content is exceptionally constructive. Hope to see more confident shield users out there. ✊️
I think it's super powerful against my shield fighter build.. but I don't have any first-hand experience and can't say how well it does vs other classes.. I know that relying on the buckler for blocking can be really dicey, and I prefer to have a bigger shield for pushing into rangers/wizards because its easier for me to block their arrows/spells with a heater. lots of different ways to play the game!
Jus another PSA: Dont forget that the full swing has a hitbox from beginning of swing to end even off screen so players get around the shield by starting their swing or ending their swing in an animation that goes around the shield. Careful with using shield against falchions cuz Getting close with the falchion can start the swing animation behind the shield by also swinging the camera. (in 19:47 there's a Michael Jackson subliminal message 😅)
man the falchion is such a tricky weapon to deal with / block.. can you provide some more explanation about opponents starting the swing behind the shield? just want to make sure I understand what you mean... thanks for any additional info!!
On that first battle, I would also mention that it was a high risk fight to the death because it was next to a healing shrine. Instead of chasing, when he ran through the choke of the door, you had a legitimate opportunity to swap to ranged and take shots from a distance instead of sprinting, because he would have to turn around and run back through the doorway choke through more shots to challenge you. If you got him far enough away, you could use the healing shrine yourself and deny him the ability to use it for a long time - even if you had to chase him again to restart the fight, strategically speaking, it'd be a reset at his disadvantage. At full health you could actually use sprint with your weapons stowed too. When it comes to barbarians, I find that even when it takes chewing them down piece by piece, the most important factor is putting them at as many layers of disadvantage as possible, because their burst potential and windows of advantage their skills provide are huge fight turners.
Hey Blinn, I've been trying an "all the swords" build and I've been having fun, I'd like to see how you'd set it up. The idea is to dual wield short swords and have a longsword equipped in your second slot. What perks would you use?
not sure, because it's not a build that uses a shield. I've only got shallow experience with the longsword and am not in a position to make recos based on its particulars.. sorry!!
in your fight with the druid, your only option was to shut that door and then bonk the druid if he tries to rat jump the door, otherwise, create distance and widdle him down with range. If he goes rat form, that's an opportunity for you to kill him in 1 shot. The biggest weakness to your builds is movement speed. In solo gameplay move speed is king because you can space and punish people easier. You mentioned in a previous video about stacking dex for the action speed, agility also gives action speed so it pays off. If you were to use move speed gear, I bet you would see vast improvements in your ability to express skill and to win fights. Blocking has its place, but it doesn't work as well as being faster. If you're fast enough, the block animation itself is enough time to get out of your opponent's attack range in a lot of cases..
an excellent point.. and good reminder that agility also increase action speed, albeit not as dramatically, thanks!! I'll keep refining the build and see if I can get more balance between my Dex/Agi aka my action speed & my move speed. appreciate you looking out!
Keep ranging druids and use explosives in rat form. Be patient and punish failed attacks. Druids get countered by calm playing and spacing. They are a huge pain and most will get away BUT if your patient and have better spacing you will succeed. After awhile it becomes very obvious what they’re going to do and bringing them to an area where they’re at a disadvantage becomes much easier. They tend to run out of patience much sooner than other classes such as ranger or rogue
he used Judgement, a short-ranged offensive cleric spell that works against players & mobs. you might have it confused with 'holy purification' which does big AOE damage against undead. be careful out there!!
@@YourBoyBlinn same voice line and cast time! that makes a lot of sense. how would you counter that? Seems like the moment their hands are clasped, you better be already back pedaling or at least clearing 5m
@@ReefRenders yeah difficult to counter! you can either dance on their range, or in my case try to mitigate the magic damage with my shield up (the perk barricade gives me extra magic resist)
You spend a loooot of time turning off lights, especially when you’re not full health and could be bandaging. What’s the logic behind this? Is it worth?
my thinking is this: 1) if the darkness prevents my enemy from seeing me clearly, it messes with their spacing and can cause them to whiff. it's better to take no damage than some damage, especially if my health is already low. and 2) I'm personally comforted by the dark environment, it makes me play better and more confidently, which can help me turn the tide in a close fight. I have a mental hurdle when I'm bandaging mid-fight because it feels like my attention is split.. kindof hard to describe, but I'd rather spend those precious seconds prepping my space and mentally staying focused on combat, than try to eek out a few additional hps from a single bandage. hope this helps!
@@YourBoyBlinn that makes total sense. So you consider yourself better at dealing with the darkness than your average opponent. I happen to be the opposite! By the way, I love the sword and board content! Lots of druid and warlock stuff out there lately, so thanks for representing 😁
I think you are very useful for newer players and its cool to see somebody with a analytical approach to this but, i think a lot of your struggles are coming from not using the right build paths and equipment, even as a white geared pdr fighter u can get around 40% pdr (without shield) and effective mdr, there are a few things to note (double movespeed rolls on boots, loose trousers) TLDR: you should use some more meta equipment and perks, the shield fighter has a lot of potential but needs refinement, take notes from other ppl. flanged mace is linear even with a lot of action speed, bad range, limited moveset.
against cleric, particularly smite or divine protection, you can effectively just disengage given you have the space (or use sprint initially to bait his damage cooldowns or get rid of his prot. give it 10 seconds use your survival bow (like u said)
totally hear all your points! extra pdr and mr would be nice from more mainstream armor pieces, but I end up just feeling sluggish in solos (where I spend the majority of my time). also the Grand Brigandine is just an awesome drip :) makes me feel good to wear it because of a boost to charisma haha. the flanged mace has been kind to me recently and I love the 2 fast attacks I can get out of the counter-attack. limited moveset sure, but I'm getting pretty good at dragging the attacks around longsword parry etc. different strokes for different folks!
@@jinxreaper9158Bit of a redundant as a comment in itself. I think most players know that. Im just saying here is aspects he can improve about his own unique style, using the tools he might view as 'meta'
Fight #6: You lost the utilities fight. You have three sets of bandages, a camp fire, and lock picks. The campfire and lock picks are eating up valuable utility space. @23:49 you recognize that he's healing, but you don't match it, because you don't have any pots available. Since you play steathily, you may want to work on developing a system to hot swap potions into your utilities once the fight begins (maybe leave a few utilities empty to quickly right click potions in).
also feel as tho friend should have went on wiz over fighter. play was to shield block the magic missile while blinn was 1v1ing the other fighter (even if he didnt see missile coming, it was the way closer target for him, and clear of friendly fire.) then picking up his own 1v1 on that wiz
@@skylermeade yeah its so hard to be thoughtful and organized in the heat of battle! and looking back at VoDs is always so much clearer than in the moment haha
Druids honestly feel so difficult to play against, I've also had thoughts about throwing a molly at them and seeing if that does them in, but who knows.
I keep running into a problem with the heater shield where it feels like I'm moving thru mud with it. Like I can get a good block in on stuff but then my dude is so staggered I can't get the shield back up in time after retaliating with a swing, especially if I ever try to go for 2 swings between blocks. Is there a stat change that can be made to fix that? Is it just not enough action speed? Also don't feel bad about posting these. The discomfort you feel is shared by all. I think I've closed the game in a rage then sheepishly reopened in minutes later at least 3 times last week. The really punishing thing about this game is it is almost always your fault when you die and it feels so embarrassing lol
what an awesome comment! bahahaha: "closed the game in a rage then sheepishly reopened in minutes later at least 3 times last week"... BEEN THERE! as for the heater, depends what you are blocking. different weapons have different impact power (2-handers have a higher impact power than most 1-handers). so if you're trying to block a bardiche, for example, your heater will be staggered a lot. two recos: are you running Shield Mastery? will help you with a 50% action speed bonus if you attack immediately after a successful block, and 2) yes stack as much Dex as you can (aim for 25+ dexterity) to increase your action speed and therefore increase the speed of your attack swings and blocks. good luck!!
Awesome video, I really can only kill druids by forcing rat from them using some kinda AOE, the larger the better. It's kinda crazy cause you can't keep up with them, you can't run from them, aside from that rat from kill just hope you don't run into them?
Respect for this video. In the words of the great Morshu "The master's failed more times than the student has tried" (1:30 in th-cam.com/video/76o9FQ7ux1s/w-d-xo.html this video) Observation about the dagger-fighter battle: Sprint could be used to space until you can wait out the Adrenalin Rush. It looks like the Adrenalin Rush makes the attacks too quick to block/counter while it is active.
another awesome comment, thanks! and good call on using sprint mid-fight in response to his ability. gotta remember its not just for closing the gap! appreciate you Lichy :)
The truth is that as a viewer you can analize TH-cam videos for countless hours and still feel like you doing something. When it comes down to apllying it in-game, you will choke anyway due to lack of proper reflexes. IMO best way to learn is to record your own records and analize them RIGHT AFTER the game. It should stay in head for longer :)
@@Ravenor99 If you can't get a drop on them to start the fight, it may not be worth taking. If you're set on trying to kill them, it will probably become a battle of attrition, trying to get them to burn through their spell slots in a poke battle. But generally, if you're melee, any caster is just going to kite you.
sounds like caster magic healing phantomize warlocks (rather than demon form, or the og BoC falchion/kriss dudes) -- versus the caster kiting types, I try my best to block their curses with the shield, which is for sure dicey. If I can get close enough for melee, they usually phantomize, so I carry firepots to keep the pressure on. It costs warlocks health to cast, so eventually if I block enough curses, their health does get lower. Try not to let they get far and heal up off of other mobs and their hydras. You have to catch them during the phantomize cooldown if you want to win via melee. Otherwise you could try ranged chip damage, but with your shield away it's likely you're just going to get cursed to death. TL:DR, my strategy typically requires constant pressure and for them to misplay jumping or using the environment to get close. you can also try taking off your chest armor for extra movespeed, since that armor doesn't always help vs their magic damage. it's tough!!
The barb is faking you out with a weapon swap of his own. He swapped to felling axe to do a full send trade with you. He WANTS to dps race you with the felling axe. Zweihander is for spacing, felling axe requires a complete all in strategy where he's as close to you as possible spamming attacks. The felling axe strategy is a failure of a strategy in solo's because most players will space out your attacks. If you had a move speed advantage against him, that would change the entire outcome of the fight. He's playing a mind game to having you chase him and then swap to felling axe so he can body you. With a move speed advantage, Swapping to felling axe would cost him too much b/c you could easily evade his attacks and block the remaining ones. Or if you ran Slayer Fighter, you could just out DPS him in the race.
Im sorry Blinn...ive deleted my fighter in favor of the same playstyle but as cleric instead..i just dont see the point in playing fighter anymore when cleric is us but stronger
@@YourBoyBlinn exactly, I basically run fighter almost like you, shield mastery, barricade, counter and then my flex spot for sword/ weapon mastery or more armor

Wow, a cooldown on transformations seems harsh on the face of it but It makes total sense. as the skill level increases something on that level will be needed, for sure.
It is, only if its not against the broken dogshit that warlock is, zero counterplays, cant chase cause hes faster, cant wait out for him to make a mistake as he can spam autoaim spells and hydra. I died a lot in this game now and all of the deaths felt meaningful and fair, but none against warlocks, and each time i died to a warlock pushed me further from this game more and more to the point im close to done with this garbage game and a dev team who ignores the fact that warlocks have a close to 100% winrate in PVP, good luck with keeping players in the game with this BS balancing with Dungeonborne releasing this month.

Finally someone showing what matters! Good on you man
hey thanks for this, appreciate you :)
If you do hurt them to that point they will often just run and portal if you can't catch them
thanks for the "insider tips" haha :)
No probelm!
Man this video is gold. Genuinely laughing halfway through when you started second guessing making this video 🤣. Feeling your pain man

Ohh now we're VOD reviewing? God this guy is so good. Shows you how better players do their work.
reviewing footage is much better than what I used to do, which was just try to remember what happened.. haha. also helpful to study the attack animations in slower motion, as I find that has really helped me identify certain actions in the heat of the moment!
i appreciate this kinda video because i find the most frustrating thing in this game is dying and not really knowing why/what went wrong. So this helps to learn some things before they have a chance to frustrate me personally :p some of the comments are helpful as well
hey that's great to hear! every good player has died more times than they can count -- just keep trying and you'll get better!! thanks for the comment :)
Thanks for the video man this was good to see, reviewing footage and discussing mistakes teaches so much more than only showing the wins

I don't know if this was mentioned but rat form is countered by a explosive bottle. They die in one tick unless they switch out.
yeah thanks! actually got this to work in a raid last night :) darn rats!!
Pretty sure the impact damage instant kills too. Has to be the hardest counter in the game lol, but pretty easy to avoid, just don't go rat in front of someone
Great vid, you're making me want to post some clips now.
do it up!!
really love your videos, excited to finally check out the most recent ones. out of curiosity have you experimented with perfect blocking/parrying (not the fighter active skill, but as a mechanic)? not sure if you've mentioned it before - basically, if you release right click and press left click *just a hair before* the enemy hit would make contact with your shield, you can instantly swing while your opponent is staggered, which can be useful against higher dex/fast recovery weapons. i think it gets into broken territory with high impact resistances like the buckler (although obviously super risky to go for with that specific shield) but you can even do it with bardiches and spears
also do you ever do viewer games? :)
thanks for the comment! yea I've been lucky to randomly get the shield parry during fights (releasing block just before the attack lands) and other viewers have pointed out in certain videos where I did it without realizing it. so I can see the technique, but tbh have not tried to work it into my regular combat strat because it's way too finnicky and I don't want to gamble on taking more damage than I have to..
Thanks for sharing. It was very insightful.
my pleasure, hope you don't repeat some of these mistakes!! :)
Edit: just realized you pointed out the ranged damage a few seconds after lol oops
11:42 I think another great takeaway here is you could have totally gone for some chip damage with the bow considering the amount of space you have. You can start off the fight at an advantage if anything and have them push you or them being a cleric maybe waste more heal casts. Otherwise great commentary and analysis!

a VERY PAINFUL series haha :) thanks for the comment!
Hi I love your vids so far as someone who has been playing since playtest 3 with my main class being sword and shield fighter and I have played through many iterations of fighter and I just wanted to know how many hours you have on dark and darker for and for the druid fight at around 24:10 personally I would say that pulling out your ranged weapon is better than trying to fight a bear form druid because the bear head hitbox is big and with good spacing you can't really get punished
yeah, good call on better spacing vs the bear.. my only concern is if I pull back to pull out my bow, that means I don't have my shield.. afraid the druid would just switch to panther to punish the fact that I'm not on melee.. they just have so much mobility and control that I sometimes feel more comfortable trying to block the bear attacks, rather than die with a recurve in my hands haha
as for my hours in the game, let's just say it's over 500 :)
We all need more videos like this
yeah would be great to see the best players break down some tough losses, for sure!

It's great that you're doing this despite the discomfort. However, I don't think you have to be uncomfortable about it. I can see that you appreciate other players' skills by calling good games out, so this shows strength of personality!
awh, thanks for this, it's a really encouraging comment :)
in my first two days of playing this game, just two weeks ago, i saw a druid go into rat form from halfway across a room. I took a hail mary shot with my crossbow and nailed him. He was in full purple gear (i was probably like score 60 or so, like a random green weapon or something)
made my day honestly lmao
YES. love to hear it!!
I’d like to see the game state you describe at the end too. Thanks for the video!!
appreciate you!
Love your stuff, let's gooooooo!
thanks very much!
this is the video i needed thank you! could you show how you deal with warlocks
WARLOCKS. hahaha tricky because it depends on the build you are facing.
@@betrayer1350 well said
As uncomfortable as it may be, you're doing the right thing. This game is super unforgiving, nobody is holding anyones hand. But this content is exceptionally constructive. Hope to see more confident shield users out there. ✊️
"exceptionally constructive" is one of the best things I could hope to hear in response to the vid... thanks so much!!
what do u think about the rondell and buckler build going around for fighter?
I think it's super powerful against my shield fighter build.. but I don't have any first-hand experience and can't say how well it does vs other classes.. I know that relying on the buckler for blocking can be really dicey, and I prefer to have a bigger shield for pushing into rangers/wizards because its easier for me to block their arrows/spells with a heater. lots of different ways to play the game!
@YourBoyBlinn something I see fighters do that you could try is using sprint during combat to help you space during the fights
yes, I've seen that too.. using sprint to dance on the edge of melee range. can be effective it seems!
Maan, I love the vibe. Subb
yay vibes!! thanks for stopping by :)
When it comes to barbarians, I find that even when it takes chewing them down piece by piece, the most important factor is putting them at as many layers of disadvantage as possible, because their burst potential and windows of advantage their skills provide are huge fight turners.
all very well said, thanks for the notes!!
Hey Blinn, I've been trying an "all the swords" build and I've been having fun, I'd like to see how you'd set it up. The idea is to dual wield short swords and have a longsword equipped in your second slot. What perks would you use?
not sure, because it's not a build that uses a shield. I've only got shallow experience with the longsword and am not in a position to make recos based on its particulars.. sorry!!
Have you done or are you planning to do any video talking how you choose stats on items with your build etc?
yup, made this one a while back: th-cam.com/video/eGo0yz7EyqQ/w-d-xo.html and got more in the works!
in your fight with the druid, your only option was to shut that door and then bonk the druid if he tries to rat jump the door, otherwise, create distance and widdle him down with range.
They tend to run out of patience much sooner than other classes such as ranger or rogue
just the advice I needed, thanks so much!!
Great video mate
thanks for letting me know, appreciate it!
Im stuck stepdoor. 7:18
yes indeed!
Am i crazy or should your shield have blocked many/ basically all of those dagger stabs and instead basically didnt block a single one?
nah the dagger can hit my flank, or my head, it just LOOKS like the shield gives me more coverage from the first-person camera than it actually does
How did the cleric down you at the start? I thought that spell was only for undead? does it do general magical damage?
he used Judgement, a short-ranged offensive cleric spell that works against players & mobs. you might have it confused with 'holy purification' which does big AOE damage against undead. be careful out there!!
Fight #2 was epic
yeah gg to that fighter, they really kept their cool and came back after I had a strong start! also shows the value of a headshot :O
You spend a loooot of time turning off lights, especially when you’re not full health and could be bandaging. What’s the logic behind this? Is it worth?
Harder to shoot what you can’t see.
@@thordoo3047this is true, but getting back as much hp as possible is , imo a bigger priority in that context.
my thinking is this: 1) if the darkness prevents my enemy from seeing me clearly, it messes with their spacing and can cause them to whiff. it's better to take no damage than some damage, especially if my health is already low. and 2) I'm personally comforted by the dark environment, it makes me play better and more confidently, which can help me turn the tide in a close fight.

I think you are very useful for newer players and its cool to see somebody with a analytical approach to this but, i think a lot of your struggles are coming from not using the right build paths and equipment, even as a white geared pdr fighter u can get around 40% pdr (without shield) and effective mdr, there are a few things to note (double movespeed rolls on boots, loose trousers)
TLDR: you should use some more meta equipment and perks, the shield fighter has a lot of potential but needs refinement, take notes from other ppl.
flanged mace is linear even with a lot of action speed, bad range, limited moveset.
against cleric, particularly smite or divine protection, you can effectively just disengage given you have the space (or use sprint initially to bait his damage cooldowns or get rid of his prot. give it 10 seconds use your survival bow (like u said)
totally hear all your points! extra pdr and mr would be nice from more mainstream armor pieces, but I end up just feeling sluggish in solos (where I spend the majority of my time). also the Grand Brigandine is just an awesome drip :) makes me feel good to wear it because of a boost to charisma haha.
the flanged mace has been kind to me recently and I love the 2 fast attacks I can get out of the counter-attack. limited moveset sure, but I'm getting pretty good at dragging the attacks around longsword parry etc. different strokes for different folks!
You wont feel sluggish if you use the right stuff, stack ag in plate, just advice from a very sweaty player, take it or leave it.
You can achieve the majority of the points needed for the armor breakpoint of 200 from cuirass and with double roll shield (phys reduce and armor)
Since you play steathily, you may want to work on developing a system to hot swap potions into your utilities once the fight begins (maybe leave a few utilities empty to quickly right click potions in).
thanks for all the helpful insights!
also feel as tho friend should have went on wiz over fighter. play was to shield block the magic missile while blinn was 1v1ing the other fighter (even if he didnt see missile coming, it was the way closer target for him, and clear of friendly fire.) then picking up his own 1v1 on that wiz
I always carry an oil lantern for the RATS
BEEN THERE!
as for the heater, depends what you are blocking. different weapons have different impact power (2-handers have a higher impact power than most 1-handers). so if you're trying to block a bardiche, for example, your heater will be staggered a lot. two recos: are you running Shield Mastery? will help you with a 50% action speed bonus if you attack immediately after a successful block, and 2) yes stack as much Dex as you can (aim for 25+ dexterity) to increase your action speed and therefore increase the speed of your attack swings and blocks. good luck!!

Observation about the dagger-fighter battle: Sprint could be used to space until you can wait out the Adrenalin Rush.

I'm having a really bad time against warlocks, anything you got for me blinn?
hmm what kind of warlock? lots of different builds that require different strats to give you a fighting chance!
@@YourBoyBlinn Visually they just throw red magic at me, throw hydras down, phantomize when I get near and I'm usually already dead when I reach them.
@@YourBoyBlinn Damn, I didn't even know you could block the red stuff. I'm gonna try these tipps out, thanks!
DaD is gaming
fer shure bud
Or if you ran Slayer Fighter, you could just out DPS him in the race.
interesting, thanks!!
