Toto's distinctive sound would not have been what it was without Jeff Porcaro's unique style of rhythmic drumming. Jeff was a drummer who could play any style of any genre - be it jazz, r & b or rock. Toto just wasn't the same after JP's passing. R.I.P., Jeff Porcaro. You are still loved & missed dearly, even more than 21 years later.
These guys did just what was right and needed at the time. Still just breaks my heart to see the band go through this. Love Steve's intro to Simon, what a great pick. Love David, he reminds me so much of my own brother(kind of eerie) I think they did just what Jeff would have wanted.Could just hear the pain in Steve's voice. Ya'll did right by Jeff and that's what counts!!
wow this is awesome... i can feel the pain though, and it makes me love these guys more... and to see how good mike looked, growing his hair long like jeff and pulling it back like jeff as well! and the saddest thing to me is to know where mike is right now... thats why ya gotta make the best of what ya have at any given time and NEVER take anything for granted and just live life.
I think Lukather was affected the most-I dont know how you guys went on, I dont think I personally could have done it- You guys are so strong and I admire you guys more than you could ever know
V E R Y Hard to digest the Passing Of Jeff . Hearing His Brother Mike speaking about how the Band and family has to move on with Life is heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time , if that makes sense . And Mike left too , too damn early .
thanks for uploading! second, first time seeing this (jeff is my favorite drummer at the moment) and steve is wearing an eraserhead t-shirt!!! the david lynch-toto link has finally shown itself to exist. who would have thought? r.i.p. jeff.
@drewper73 It was almost divine. Simon is a GREAT guy, monster drummer and fit in so well in Toto's style. There couldn't have been a better guy. I used to think that Vinnie Coluaita would have been the guy.
LOVING Steve's "Eraserhead" shirt. Always a beautiful thing when some of your favorite things work themselves into each other without trying to. I'm probably the only hardcore Toto/David Lynch fan out there! Other than Luke. R.I.P. Jeffery.
Accent wise, yes, as they were both born in Connecticut. Voice wise, not at all. Jeff had a deep, slightly baritone voice. Mikey's voice sounds lighter
This looks like every bit of film/takes in this video cuz seriously how many times do they have to say that "they feel real bad BUT we just had to go on" ( too many takes)
Simon was a great choice. I also thought J.R. Robinson would have been great. But J.R. had a similar groove and played the hat somewhat like Jeff. But Jeff was a moment in time which we shall never experience again. RIP JP
Simon Phillips is a good drummer for sure but he does not have the groove that Jeff Porcaro had. Toto is better with Jeff than Simon in my opinion and I don't listen to them with Simon as much as with Jeff.
Right bro, that's exactly what I felt, when I heard Toto without Jeff. But Simon left Toto and they are touring now with Shannon Forrest, who gave me Toto back. Also Lenny Castro is touring with them again and giving an authentic feeling to the gigs. Nobody plays like Jeff, but the actual rhythm-section works out great.

Simon Phillips had the hardest job of any musician ever-replacing the all time God of drums Jeff Porcaro-JP ruled and he always will!!
But he did it remarkably well. I miss Simon in the band.
we all miss you Mike! and of course your brother Jeff..total blow to the music industry...but your music will always live on
Did Mike died too?
2015 from Lou Gerigs disease! :(
Best groove drummer of all time Jeff Porcaro.
Made every beat fit.
We miss You JEFF & MIKE
U didn’t just lose your homeboy, we all lost an iconic drummer who’s irreplaceable
Thumbs up to Simon Phillips for stepping up and helping Toto finish this project.

just like Mike Porcaro said : Playing like jeff is impossible... nuff said...
Love the guys ... cant imagine how hard it must be for them to now watch yet another amazing Porcaro brother suffer :((
I think Lukather was affected the most-I dont know how you guys went on, I dont think I personally could have done it- You guys are so strong and I admire you guys more than you could ever know
Their close friendship made them as good as they where!
I agree. Spiritual connection and fantastic musicians. What a great combo!❤
wow....can't say much more.....how much I love to watch rare videos like this.....
Thanks ,mucho mas❤
You can tell they’re are hurt by Jeff’s death. RIP to Jeff Porcaro.

R.I.P. Jeff Porcaro, hang in there mikey!

R.I.P Jeff Porcaro!
And for all beautiful things in this horrible world, please let Mike get well again!!
Famous last words..
💔 Jeff and Mike :(
His isolated beat from Roseanna is gonna be my soundtrack today🔥
Thanks for doing that for Jeffrey

Mike died 2015
Heaven must be wonderful.
Oh my heart
Difficult situation for the guys.
♥️
Are you talking about Simon Phillips?
Steve Lukather always reminded me somewhat of Bobcat Goldthwait
Couldnt of put it better myself!...Everything just slid into place..
Mike is still alive!
Eh
Steve "The hitman" Lukather
Mikey sounds like Jeffrey!
Accent wise, yes, as they were both born in Connecticut. Voice wise, not at all. Jeff had a deep, slightly baritone voice. Mikey's voice sounds lighter
His tone is similar same goes for other brother Steve!
This looks like every bit of film/takes in this video cuz seriously how many times do they have to say that "they feel real bad BUT we just had to go on" ( too many takes)
God Bless him. And. M
from left to right: John Goodman, Howard Stern, and u name the guy on the right.
fanmaxis3004 LOL 😆... no no now Steve Lukather’s a lot better lookin than Howard Stern, but I get it ... lol 😆
Simon was a great choice. I also thought J.R. Robinson would have been great. But J.R. had a similar groove and played the hat somewhat like Jeff. But Jeff was a moment in time which we shall never experience again. RIP JP
They didn't want anyone who sounded like Jeff
I know Mikey is alive
