  • In the heat of the summer, bass seem to disappear. Anglers can fish and not get a bite in places they did just a couple months ago. Where do the bass go? What part of the water column are the bass using? Watch what happens and how easy it is to fish in the wrong place for summer bass.

This to me is the ultimate bass learning channel hands down.
Other channels tell you how to work a bait or sell you a bait. Steve teaches you real world experience he encounters, and most often backs it up with underwater footage.

A lot of anglers are locked in on that bottom dragging mentality this time of year and I think you put it perfectly how that can hurt the bites we get. I'm fortunate that the waters I fish have so much vegetation that the oxygen levels stay roughly balanced for the most part. But even I have switched from dragging a jig or a worm to fishing above those fish!

When I measured the length of my van it really hit me how easy it is to fish below them. I know I have done it way too much by accident.

I have learned so much from your channel- it’s mind-boggling to see the progression from this year to last. Just the simple rigging techniques, the lure weight to line weight, and my catch ratio are proving to me that your information is making me a better angler after application. We had over 5” of rain in a huge long storm last week. Water dropped 4 degrees and totally changed the fishing. Bass we’re all over the place from stirring up mud to 14’ deep. I have never been more confused in my life. Only had a couple of hours on the water and never got a bite. That’s rare for my home Lake.

    • @SteveRogersOutdoors

That is a lot of rain in a short time! One of the worst tournaments I ever had in my life was on Beaver Lake in Arkansas where it just poured nonstop and the water levels rose a lot. The angler that won fished a bluff bank where those bass didn't spread out as much. I mentally beat myself before I even launched the boat that day. We are getting some storms right now.

That is a great perspective Steve! Thanks for the underwater footage. I live in East TN and it gets really tough this time of year. I went out today and tried a new approach. I fished laydowns with a jig that were in shallow water. I had a little success, but I think that if I might have presented a different presentation, I might have caught more. Its all a puzzle that's fun to put together.

I finally started figuring out how to catch these big ones in this lake. It took a lot time on water in my kayak to put it all together.I've been writing down all details on all these big bass 4+ lbs. Like the date, times of catch, lures, water depth, temp, structure of any. Other than hot shallow water, & big baits. That's only things very consistent.
