    Dear Katherine, the vet advised me that
    i should castrate my dog because he would
    sometimes get problems with his bowels ,
    he didnt seemed bothered after ,
    and didnt have any other illnesses .

    Vets are the only ones to gain from this. If u want to do this do it to your kids first. If you say no than leave your dogs alone also. If u tell me it’s because of his or her sex drive. Well if u can’t keep that in check maybe u should own a goldfish instead

    Poor dogs in the US. In Norway it`s illegal altering a dog unless they have a medical condition that makes it necessary. And they all play nice in dog parks. I mean, it`s not hard avoiding unwanted litters.

    Castrating dogs is barbaric. My dog has his balls he looks good he’s strong and he loves life. He is well trained and gentle. As a man I could never do that to my dog

    I adopted a beautiful flatcoated retriever. He was castrated because that is what shelters do. He was fun and ran and ran. Now he is fat and sleeps. I reduce his food but he needs nourishment. I feel cheated. I now have a dog whose breed has high cancer that I fell in love with. Now I have a overweight dog or eunuch and it falls on me to somehow keep his weight down. He has had one growth removed already. He has fatty tumors. I have had lot of dogs but never had a problem with any of them being overweight. I pay good money for special food for overweight dogs.

    I chemically castrated my male dog . But he still is stressed out by my female in heat . Is there any chance of her getting pregnant ?

    Many thanks. We are spaying our seven-year-old Border cross Lakeland terrier after her first litter of six in June 2022 and have kept two border cross JRT male puppies who are litter mates. One puppy is more dominant than the other. Is it true that some dogs can get aggressive after castration and would you recommend vasectomy or chemical castration as an alternative to full castration?

    Hi. My boy is 2.5yrs old. Noticed an aggressive side towards other male dogs and a very noticeable and forceful approach to bitches.
    I'm booking him in for castration ASAP.

    I have a small male dog that will be 4 years old in August (2022). The owner gave him to me during the start of the covid-19 epidemic because I was alone and the owner was very ill. He is very aggressive towards other dogs and also cats so I went to the vet and she recommended a chemical castration but that didn’t help. After the chemical castration wore out he started trying to hump me and everyone he took a liking to. Between that and his aggressiveness I was constantly reprimanding him and I felt awful about it because I love him. The funny thing is that if other people walk my dog he is not as aggressive towards other dogs. I think he probably reacts to my anticipation of his aggressiveness. Against the advice of my vet I had him castrated anyway and I am starting to doubt if I did the right thing. I know his testosterone levels will go down anywhere within 6 weeks so I don’t know yet if castrating him will actually help at all (he was castrated on the 7th of June 2022). Did I do the right thing?

    This is actually a very harmful procedure. Our society is in a very sand and horrendous state. People do not have morals. They are too blind to see that animals are living beings with feelings and emotions just like us. They feel pain. Could you imagine if somebody castrated you? Nobody wants to be castrated. You should show animals some respect and not torture them. These surgeries cause animals pain which lasts them their entire lives. IT also causes them many health problems, and it shortens their life spans. I wish people would realize just how much pain they are causing innocent animals.

    so it really depends where are you from... being a place where there is a lot of strays. and my puppy going out actively on his own. he needs his testicular hormones to be active and resilient toward other possible enemies. and its okay for me to wait for him 5 6 seconds to mark his territory as i like him being dominant about his area, and the heat is a bit issue i am dealing with but its for 1 or 2 months after this he is good as anything. remaining intact will be beneficial for him as being castrated cuz i don't leave him mating around with some random bitches down street he once conceived the TVT and it created a lot of issue for him as well so i look for the mates coming around if they are fine for him to play with, and not leading random puppies around the street. I love my dog very much and I think its good for him. As i adopted a Local Indian Pariah breed its not a big deal for them but i would love to train him more, which he never wants to do. everyone take care of your pets and show some love to them

    We have two dogs - Vizslas. Our 4yr old cannot be trusted on walks when we meet other dogs - always wants to dominate and can be aggressive with them too. Our 5yr old is the opposite - more nervous tendencies, but can get over excited and keen to hump other dogs - both male and female! What is your view on castrating dogs of these ages? If we decided to go down this road, would it be best to castrate them at the same time or separately?

    • @KatherineNovaVeterinarian
      @KatherineNovaVeterinarian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dogs can be neutered at any age - 4 and 5 years is fine :) It could be a good idea to do them at the same time, yes, so that there isn't a power imbalance. All the best!

      That is a good guestion. I have read where it did not help. Keep checking this guestion out. Watch more videos on gastration. When humans convicted of rape take drugs to medically gastrate them they will resort to using folic shaped objects to rape victims. Sometimes dogs are vicious and the only answer is to euthanized them.

    If the dog is several years old and has habits established, will it change things? (other than sterility) You can castrate him but you can't exactly take his brain out.

    HI, loved you video very informative and clear. i have a lurcher kind of mixed dog around 40kg he's 2 and a half, very energetic and gets very frustrated being put in our kennel over night and doesn't respond very well to training and has become very territorial too. i am beggining to think he might be sexually frustrated, he's escaped alot recently and has even attacked sheep.... been having a right blast recently haha. think castrating might be my only option now. and advice would be greatly appreciated thank you

    I’m getting a make basenji next month which is 1 me th old now.
    I was thinking weather to neuter him or not.
    The question is will he not gain muscles like make dogs?
    Some people say after neutering a dog it become very very shy.What do you think about this.
    Thanks.

    • @KatherineNovaVeterinarian

      Hi Irfan, typically neutered males don't develop as much muscle bulk because they have less testosterone in their system. But with exercise he will certainly develop some!

  • @Pipe-organ-recordings

    You don’t talk about risks of increased fear issue when neutering a dog.
    Additionally you dont tell people about the major increased risks of osteoporosis (what makes bones hard estrogen which is made from testosterone), or hemangiosarcoma and increased risks of diabetes. There are studies out that actually show that castrating dog increases the risk of prostate cancer, but yes other prostate problems are reduced. All and all I find your video incomplete. Shame on you.

    Will it (castration) lead to any kind of behavioural change for guarding dog? (specially Rottweiler and German Shepherd). Like reduching guarding behaviour, agility. Specially for male dogs.

    • @KatherineNovaVeterinarian
      @KatherineNovaVeterinarian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It absolutely can because of the reduced testosterone, although training my be required as well - I recommend training that does not involve any punishment as this can make behaviours worse.
