  • Wheat Harvest started last week. Laura stepped up to the plate to drive a combine full time this year! Check out the amazing scenery a few minutes into the video...Nothing like wheat harvest in Kansas!
Welcome to Peterson Family Farm. On this TH-cam channel, we plan to show viewers what happens on a real life family farm in Kansas. From working with animals, to planting seeds, to harvesting grain, to putting up hay, to fixing equipment, you'll get to see what farming is like! Our farm is a 5th generation farm started in 1882 by our great great grandparents. We grow wheat, corn, soybeans, milo, sunflowers, and forages and we feed about 1,000 head of cattle. To learn more about it, watch our channel intro video here: • Welcome to Our New You...

Thanks for making a fine effort to informing the public as to how things work on the farms. The great hours spent plotting, planting, growing and harvesting (not to mention the stuff in between) has given me a much greater understanding and heartfelt appreciation for the long hrs of work your family puts in. Thank you for so much! Warmest regards to the family.

we here in Australia harvest similar to you with VERY HOT conditions , and inland do get much dew , so we cut generally with moisture lower than 14% and deliver lower than 13.5% moisture :) and seed that we keep generally stored even lower which help keep insect risk lower, although we still treat the seed for pests !!

I love these farming videos because they bring back old memories. It’s been almost 50 years since I’ve been in a combine harvesting wheat in one of my grandfather’s fields. It’s interesting to see how farming has changed over the years, but I miss the days spent walking beans, shelling corn, and even baling hay. The trips to the elevator, riding the horses, milking the cows and driving the pickup years before I was legally able to get a license. Thanks for the videos and trips down memory lane. The boy may be off the farm, but the farm is still in the boy. Now I’m just taking it easy in a rural town in Iowa. Keep enjoying what you do because it’s a life that many do get the chance to experience.

Born just North of Topeka and in 1959 the year I graduated from high school I went on the wheat harvest starting in Texas. We cut wheat in Texas, Ok, Kansas, Col, Neb, South and North Dakota, and finished up in Montana. We then took 5 machines and sold them in Canada. Didn't have things like cabs, just lucky to get the owner to put umbrellas on them. We had 5 16 ft header and 2 14 ft header combines. I am sure the ones you are running are much bigger. Brings back old memories but also some long and hot days. I saw the Kansas State logo and I am also a graduate of KSU. Enjoyed.

I'm 76... and grew up in Southwestern Ohio back in the 40s and 50s... I've loved farming all my life and although my people never owned land... I worked for a lot of different farmers... with different kinds of farms, but I too love wheat harvest time... I can remember, before moisture meters' chewing on some wheat to see if it was dry enough... I can almost taste still today... Nice memories... It's absolutely beautiful where you live... and I envy you, but not in a bad way... "Sister" is a beautiful young lady... You all are blessed to get along so well and have the chance to work together... God bless you all always...

@@petehutzel3778 Well what do ya know! West Chester was my hometown... back in the 40s and 50s... I grew up next to a dairy farm... I was there more than I was home by the time I was 9... They milked Holstein cows and it was the "largest registered herd" in southwestern Ohio... They milked 42 head... I've always loved farm work... Only job I ever had where I could look back at the end of the day... and see what I got done... It's nothin' like that now though😞... Not a small town anymore...

Perks of harvesting when it's 35C and 40 km/h winds is the central plains don't need a dryer. I'm always amazed you can wear jeans every day. I got to tour harvest around Newton and Garden Plain in 2016 and I melted!

    Great stuff! love it...and Laura's cute :-)
...I remember getting to work for my grandfather in the summers (making about $4.50/hr, 12 hrs/day) as a kid in the late 70s & early 80s on his south Texas maize farm (Bishop, TX) when he had a JD 105 combine...I'd ride with him all day some days (no a/c & windows wide open!) & when harvest was done he'd put me on a tractor (no cab or a/c) cutting stalks, discing & plowing the fields...learned to drive just about everything sitting on his lap, and before I could even reach the pedals on his old JD 4020 tractor...some of the best memories of my childhood and my life...my cousins still farm (about 20k acres)..would love to farm myself. Flying drones now & hoping to launch my own youtube channel, one of which will eventually cover south Texas farming & related content.
(..btw, farm on & don't listen to that jack@$$ who tried to diss you in another video about the size of your farm...2000 acres is a heck of lot to farm...my grandfather was truly a small farmer...only about 100 acres of his own and the rest he tenant farmed (probably not even close to 1000 acres in all.)

Hi there from New Zealand. That 7720 looks pretty good for a 40 year old combine! I grew up on a farm here in the 60s and 70s and used to love riding along on the combines when I was a kid. Mostly barley and grass seed, though Dad did try sunflowers for a couple of years. Botritus mould was a big problem though.
