In today's video, I explain how our combine harvesters work to separate the grain from the chaff. I finally see hawk feathers in the wheat swath and when I get out of the combine I fall off. Grandpa is 95 years old and is still running the show here. He tells Dad what to do and it makes me laugh! Dad has interesting responses as usual. I'm not the only kid in this operation....I'm just the youngest!!!! Arvid saves the day and finishes my wheat swath so we can rode to our other fields to harvest. Grandpa is going to flag our combine harvester convoy so there are no mistakes! I hope you enjoyed my video! Thank you for watching!

My Story…
Hello. My name is Kate Stephens, and I am an 18-year-old 4th-generation Montana farmer. My family has been farming wheat in north-central Montana since my great-grandfather immigrated from Denmark in 1912 and homesteaded our land. My family has been teaching me about farming since I was two years old. I run one of the combines on the farm at harvest. I believe that it is important for everyone to know where their food comes from and the families who produce it. I love our farm, and I hope that my Farm to Fashion and Farm to Table products can help educate people about where their food comes from in a fun way. That is how Kate's Ag - Farm to Fashion became a reality. I hope you love my products as much as I do because this is an extension of our farm and the grains we have been growing to feed other families for over one hundred years.
I’m in my office doing some paperwork I can hear my youngest watching your show, he comes in the room and says “daddy Kate just went doink”. With a confused look on my face I walked down the hallway in the hallway he’s bouncing up and down yelling “Kate went doink Kate went doink”. I haven’t the foggiest idea what he’s even talking about and then he showed me and I was, oh OK. so I just wanted you to get a good laugh out of that. I didn’t even think of it but I wish I had all cellular phone video camera going.

Great Video and yes, Dad is the King of sarcasm. Nice addition to your feather collection. We really enjoy and learn from these videos and appreciate all the time it takes to edit and reply to the many comments. Other farmers have pointed out that they wear the seatbelt when roading the combine. Something about a person getting thrown through the windshield when their combine crashed and came to a sudden stop. I think it was on a Welkers video this season.

Kate it's federally illegal to possess raptor feathers. I know they are cool, but what I do is take a picture of them, and drop them back on the ground.
Plenty of ppl like yourself collect them, but you are posting online what you are doing.
I would if I were you drop them back onto the ground in a video, and explain that you didnt know (if you want), and leave it at that.
By the way, I enjoy your videos, and I've gotta say that your dad is a really cool guy, and I love the way he trains, and mentors you for farming.

Hello Kate 👋 when I seen the image of you standing on the header and read the title I thought oh No !!! So glad to see your ok. You had me worried. I remember when I was about 12 or 13 it was wet I went to jump off the tractor and the running board had mud on it and my foot slipped under the clutch pedal and I fell flat on the ground. I just got straight up my dad thought i should have broken my ankle but I just bounced off the ground. That was on my Massey Ferguson 135 hasn’t got a cab only roll bar and canopy but I still love it 👩🌾

I got a puppy this year and walk her daily on the property, and soon I was finding a turkey feather every day! I have collected so many now I could make a whole new turkey! Imagine how many I’d have found if I started doing this 25 years ago! God bless you and your family!

It always amazes me at the vastness of the fields in your Montana farm and how isolated the farm life is there especially driving your combine harvester. Thanks for the video Kate. I totally agree, I never listen to the radio when operating machinery. I’ve always felt a person needs all their senses to detect problems. My favorite time to listen to my tractor is when plowing. The engine just sounds so much better under a load. I always joke the tractor enjoys it. Have a great day.

Kate, I have farmed all my life. Other than a 4 year Stent in the army, I farmed. The deference between me and a farmer is the land doesn't own me. BUT Food does. It doesn't matter how much you produce as long as you are producing. You are the future of our country, you, your father, grandfather and I (as a hired help) EXPECT you are to know everything. You are going to make mistakes, just like your father and grandfather. Learn from them. They are preparing for the future. It may not be Bright. They're just trying to teach how to survive without them. Always remember, " YOU ARE ALWAYS A WINNER ."

I find it amazing how a combine can separate the grain from the rest of the plant! I agree w/ u on the earbud issue. I do not wear them in my car or when I'm running any equipment. It's amazing how u can key into a sound and prevent a costly problem just by listening and feeling the car/equipment. Stay safe in the field & in college!
