    Please note one BIG thing. The current version of the Patchulator has TRS connections. Tip-Ring-Sleeve means that you can connect STEREO effects using insert cables (the "Y" cables with one stereo jack at one end and two mono jacks at the other end). I.e. you plug the stereo jack into the Patchulator and connect the two mono jacks to e.g. the 2 separate inputs on your stereo unit, and again from the unit with a similar cable you the return to the patchbay (I was stupidly using one patchbay connection for each channel). ALSO: note that you can "hijack" or "inject" audio using the top jacks, which makes it very useful to experiment on the fly without having to physically move the main cables to and from satellite / impromptu units....!

      I honestly can't imagine NOT having it anymore. It's essential to how I work and I love how simple it makes changing things around. And it just looks so cool, right??

      Pedal Friends yes! I have 3 synths connected to it. Then I have a old axe fx ultra in the loop. The only gripe I have is it needs a flat surface to sit correctly.

    • @PedalFriends
      @PedalFriends  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I've been meaning to bring this up onto my desktop for use with my synths; I hadn't considered how it could be used for more complex patching with synths and FX loops and whatnot but the manual did a really fantastic job explaining those options. Pumped to try this out with encouragement from yr comments

    Thank you! Im shure Il get one in the future, i realy like patching and now im just reorganizing my pedalboard all the time to find new sounds from what goes after what. Also the Canyon looks like an awesome pedal too.

      You're very welcome! It's a really smart and intuitive way to switch up your pedal chain and I think it could find a home in almost any setup. The Canyon is pretty great =D I made a video of some sounds in it a few weeks back if you wanna hear some fun stuff.

      @@PedalFriends Thank you, i got interested for the DMM mode as Behringer Vintage Time Machine is my favorite delay as of now + Canyon has all the other modes. I will get the MS-70 CDR first for the lofi goodness, and the Canyon will be on the radar next. Also have never tried fuzz after delay, ill try that with the Behringer today.

    Loved this! You can really get some amazing sounds of it, impressive
    Just wanted to ask a question about your signal chain - I’m guessing the tuner pedal isn’t connected into the patchulator?
    So is it guitar > tuner > then the next pedal (whatever that is) is connected into the patchulator?

    • @PedalFriends
      @PedalFriends  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello and thanks! It is truly an infinitely useful device and I can't imagine my board without it anymore since it offers such range within your board which is usually such a strictly linear thing.
      The beginning of the chain here is as follows: Guitar > Tuner > Patchulator. One "channel" or single set of in and out needs to be left on Patchulator for a signal to come through so I have the Tuner go into the Patchulator then on the same channel my signal goes out to the CabDryVR. You can see at 5:31 how the patch cable coming FROM my Tuner is going over Canyon and into my "first" channel on Patchulator. At the beginning before I patch anything you can also see that I have a single green patch cable going out and into the same "channel" which means my signal is traveling from Tuner > patch cable > back out to CabDryVR instead of being patched anywhere else.
      I think your confusion stems from the fact that I have Canyon between the Tuner and Patchulator here and it's only like that cuz I was moving a ton of stuff around on this board (I've since upgraded to a PedalTrain and I also only own the Tuner, Blooper, Quantum Vision, and TWENTYSEVENTEEN anymore with only the Tuner and Blooper on my current board) so that was the spot the Canyon fit though it is technically in its own loop/channel/bay on the Patchulator. Does that make sense?
      Also an important note: since the Tuner comes BEFORE Patchulator, it will always be first in the signal chain. This isn't an issue for me because I rarely need my tuner anywhere else in my chain. Sometimes I put my Pitch Fork between my Tuner and the Patchulator because 9/10 times I don't need Pitch Shifting anywhere else but right there (though admittedly, pitch-shifters can be super fun down the line too, even if the tracking is awful).
      Feel free to ask any follow-up questions you may have! It was really fun to rewatch this video, actually.

    So cool! With pedals that have stereo outputs, do you just connect to two of the 8 inputs on Patchulator?

    • @PedalFriends
      @PedalFriends  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what I understand, you CAN do it that way or, I believe, you can use stereo cables to connect into one input. Refer to the pinned comment by Paul Weber at the top here; they go into the stereo aspects of the device and, ultimately, refer to Boredbrain directly and the manual on their site for more info cuz I'm hardly an expert on anything, let alone there stereo function of this device.
      Here's the manual for the v2: boredbrainmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/Patchulator_v2-UserGuide_1.0.pdf

      Can do!
      Top Row:
      Boss TU-2 | EHX Canyon Delay | Boredbrain Patchulator 8000 | Witchfinder Effects Quantum Vision MultiFX (used here as a delay) | Pinebox Customs Ahab Overdrive
      Bottom Row:
      Digitech CabDryVR (always the last thing in the chain) | Zoom MS-70CDR MultiFX (my own Filter Pad preset) | Champion Leccy The Skitter Reverb/Trem | Chase Bliss Audio Blooper | Birmingham Sounds TWENTYSEVENTEEN OD
      Around 2:03 you can hear the Filter Pad from the Zoom which I made and have posted on Reddit (www.reddit.com/r/guitarpedals/comments/7pxym3/zoom_multistomp_settings_and_discussion_thread/) and was featured in my first MultiStomp video (th-cam.com/video/LlVa5V8E7-s/w-d-xo.html). I ultimately add more gain to that with the TWENTYSEVENTEEN and use the Random Tremolo on The Skitter plus its reverb to make a droney sound.
      After that I repatch things and use the Canyon on the DMM mode and then a pitch delay from Quantum Vision. Then I bring in my Down7Smear patch which I talk about in the video itself and have covered in my last MultiStomp video (th-cam.com/video/-h7BuBloMMI/w-d-xo.html) and have shared the settings for over on Reddit (www.reddit.com/r/zoommultistomp/comments/du0q6d/here_are_6_of_my_presets_that_folx_have_been/).
      Remember that most of the sounds end up coming from the repatching and the interactions of different signal chains and different routings. I'm thinking the "drone" yr referring to is actually that Down7Smear patch so get a MultiStomp, program that one in, improve upon it, and BOOM yr good to go.
      Hope this answered yr question.

    So Data on the Boss tuner caught my eye before everything else and it made my day 1000% better. Is that just a vinyl sticker on it? did you have to remove the rubber stomp pad? I need that in my life and the Patchulator 8000 itself already reminds me of the Borg, so its a genius style match haha. Ok my real question is this, I want to incorporate all my pedals collecting dust into a patchbay ready to use and record with for guitar and whatever else I think needs outboard effects. My Interface has DI inputs and re-amping outputs built in (AudioFuse Studio Interface). Im having trouble wrapping my head around using a 48 point bay (Neutrik NYS-SPP-L) which I was given for free. This seems much easier to understand and I like the desktop/pedal-ish form factor. Do I have to worry about the whole Normal, Half-Normal, De-Normal concept with this? I don't have any or use outboard gear other than guitar FX pedals and a TB-3 Analog Bass Synth. I dont feel inspired to use them because they're never connected... Sorry, more of a ramble than a question. Great video and if you do have any tips on my comment that would be appreciated!
    Thanks!

      A ramble will never be a problem to me and I hope I can answer your questions!
      1. Data: Data is actually cut out from an old sci-fi magazine that got donated to the library I work at. I used mod podge to stick him on there and did not take the rubber off. He's actually mod podged onto a separate cut out of some space so he has a bit of a background around him. It was a relatively easy process and he hasn't even really shown any signs of wear up to this point tho I admittedly don't play out anymore so whatever I'm stomping on him with is only as dirty as the floor in my home. Your mileage may vary. I used a paint brush to apply a relatively thin coating of mod podge and I've done a ton of other crafts with mod podge (librarian) so I have a decent general sense of just how much (or how little) to use so it doesn't get gross and goopy.
      2. Patch bay: to be perfectly honest, I know absolutely nothing about the normal/half-normal/de-normal thing and my only advice would be to ask somewhere on reddit (maybe reddit.com/r/synthesizers or reddit.com/r/wearethemusicmakers ?) since there's all sorts of random experts on random topics over there. Based on this article from Sweetwater (www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/what-normalling-what-difference-between-full-normal-half-nornal/) it kinda seems like the normal'ing doesn't mess with the signal itself and is more referring to the connections being made to the patch bay itself? I'm a bit out of my element here so I'd suggest asking elsewhere or, if you are brave, just trying it out with one of the cheaper/more replaceable pedals if you're comfortable with that. Patch bay' seem absolutely amazing and I've had a blast with this one and it will never leave my board more than likely.
      Thanks for the kind response and I hope this helps at all!

    So looking into one of these.. however still a bit confused of routing with it. Right now I have my 5 pedals (outward v2, tensor, count to five, mood and blooper) into a send and return of my line 6 helix... Would I just take the send / return from helix into the bored brain, and then route each 5 pedal into their send / return spots of bored brain and it'll work?

    • @PedalFriends
      @PedalFriends  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simple answer: YES. Exactly what you described would work.
      Long answer: YES- you plug the send into the "in" on one of the Patchulator ports and then send that signal to other pedals then patch back to the "out" and to the return on yr Helix. I did this back when I had my Ibanez DMD-2600 in this post on instagram:
      instagram.com/p/B_vQW3kHEbL/
      When I pan out to show the board you can see the ins and outs at the top of the Patchulator are coming to and from the 2600 and then everything it patched through the board; there's a description in the comments =)
      The Patchulator webpage also describes a few other uses/options for use of the device that really helped me grasp its flexibility :
      boredbrainmusic.com/product/patchulator-v2/
      Lemme know if this helps/if you need more descriptions or examples and I'd be happy to provide them

      @@PedalFriends Thank you very much. I also talked to boredbrain company on instagram last night, and then this morning I decided to give one a try. Got one on the way. I'm still confused a little, but I am sure with time and practice it'll work for me good. I want a boss es-5 really but those pretty expensive and this does the same thing for way less!

      I hope it works for you! I find it immensely useful and infinitely creative and I really can't imagine my board without it anymore. It being passive and unpowered is absolutely the best aspect so even if it is a big space-hog, it's entirely worth it for me for the simplicity and usefulness.
