  • I filmed this yesterday, but since reading your comments, I do feel that I now have greater clarity on this confusing subject. Treating interaction and communication as one makes sense to me, as trying to segregate the issues is very hard work.

I just eat hash browns. I been on the GFCFSF diet lately and I can't stop eating. I don't know either, I didn't know it was a thing, but I could google it.

I think this old distinction between "interaction" and "communication" was more relevant to and a legacy of the focus on "classic autism". Individuals with classic autism often do not speak at all or use a very small range of words and expressions as well as engaging in other unusual communication such as exclamations and echolalia (repeating what others say). For those who are higher-functioning with good verbal skills communication issues are less clear-cut. Their communication is often articulate but may be seen as unusual in other ways. For example they may have problems pitching communication at the same level as their audience and may pitch too high or too low or have difficulties in "relevant" or "appropriate" communication and go "off-topic" or annoy others or lose their interest. Ultimately however all this is wrapped-up more broadly in issues of interaction. While not identical, interaction and communication are too closely-linked (at least among high-functioners) to be usefully separated.

Thank you, what you say makes a lot of sense and has brought greater clarity :)

Disclaimer: I'm not a sociologist, behaviorist, psychologist, etc., or otherwise know what the hell I’m talking about. Okay, here we go.
Social interaction is the way people talk and act with one another, whether it’s 2 people or many.
Social communication is the use of language in social context whether written or spoken. This also includes social interaction.
You seem to be talking about the difference between small talk communication and deeper conversation communication. Then there’s the imparting of information where there is no conversation involved. Maybe?
With small talk, the actual words being said are the smaller part of what’s being communicated. They’re almost irrelevant. The information being conveyed is via body language, facial expression, tone of voice, and the dreaded micro-expressions. So, if we’re not looking at some one all that much, 75% of the information is largely being ignored.
In a deeper conversation, more of the information exchanged is through spoken (or written) language. Body language and facial expression are conveying much less information.
Communication sans conversation is giving a speech, lecture, instruction, etc. The spoken or written language is communicating almost all the information.
All 3 of these can be described as a social interaction.

DKJ Where is Nero typicial psychology study?
All this study on autism behaviour.
But there's no psychology book on NT brain neurology.
Your right you study NT psychology as much as me.
I do talk about non autism psychology to non autism people.
Some do find it fascinating listening to me.
      Some feel overloaded with information.
A non aspergers brain can be less intelligent than a aspergers brain.
Sadly with the lower end the spectrum intelligence is affected.
And we're lucky we are "mild" autism.
Compare to less verbal or non verbal autistic.

That's a very helpful distinction, thank you. As I pay next to zero attention to body language etc, all my communication is deep.
