Big Band isnt a fucking grappler. This dude has no idea what he's talking about. Big Band is modeled after Sentinel, who is also not a grappler. Big Band has no grappler moves, has way more mobility than a grappler, and all of his supers are either long range, extremely mobile, or have a ton of hits. Considering Big Bad a grappler is saying that Sentinel is a grappler.
@TerryDax Yes, Bigband isnt a usual type of grappler, with strong neutral game and a hardread for any situation, he has most that grapplers are sterotyped for. Command grabs with hard knockdowns (A-Train), E-Break is hammerfall and his easiest get-in. Oh yeah, all his command grabs put the opponent at a distance still keeping him working for his damage. Band is usually in a high risk high reward situation, as he can get a 2-Touch 1v3. Missing however is very damaging, with him loosing all momentum now blocking true 6f 3-way resets from the whole cast. He also has a fullscreeen unblockable shockwave to help get in. He has a lot of armor and i also just named 4 moves that are used by most Grapplers. His mixes are usually throw mixes and he is the chonkiest, getting IOH'd by every characters j.Lp. He isnt a conventional grappler, yes and he may have rather strong neutral game, which is still all slow startup moves, but he has all he needs to be able to be considered a grappler "style" character.

Without talking about Broly Z Choo Choo Train that even make rushdown character sit in the corner crying. And yes even the move that close the gab have armor for some reason well even the normal attack have armor for Broly Z...
@@theamericanbrotherofmightg3734 Yeah, lots of grapplers have armor on some normals/specials. That thing's not unique to Broly. Hugo's EX lariat has INFINITE armor in usf4, Zangief's Held HP has armor, Tager's 236B and 6P have armor, Potemkin's Hammerfall (and now slidehead) have armor, etc.
A lot of what you're talking about is also true of other archetypes. Almost every character gets similarly strong (and often stronger) Oki and setplay potential as Potemkin does in +R, except they can do so assuming less risk. If Dizzy, Ky, Millia, etc. get a knockdown, they perform similar looping mix, but with the added caveat in that they also can apply more knowledge checks because their mix itself is less apparent due to various setup tools like CSE, Tandem Top, and Fish. As for Tager, magnetism is powerful, but when compared to other Grapplers in similar games, his tradeoff (beyond the double edged sword that magnetism itself can provide) is that he lacks in large buttons. Perception of Grapplers is also shaped by their perceived ease of use as they tend to have lower combo execution than other characters. However, this perception also ignores how much more difficult neutral (and depending on the game, defense) can be for the slow, big body grappler. As powerful as an option like Slide Head, Spark Bolt, or EX Monster Lariat may be, they are ultimately less versatile than any basic mobility tools the character does not have access to.
I get that I may not have acknowledged all the weaknesses that grapplers have to deal with, but this was half-made for entertainment and the other half for opinion. I'll be sure to touch on various other archetypes or even single characters in the future in a similar fashion.
@@MrWiseWalrus I'm surprised you didn't mention AC Pot, the strongest grappler in an airdasher. @@zhaoyun255 i wouldn’t say z broly is that much of a grappler. sure his command grab can do mad damage but he does need to spend meter for it. his gameplan doesn’t really consist of struggling to get in then fishing for the command grab like zangief. i would say he’s just a busted character with a real good command grab
@@sepguy_ Which happened to be the best command grab in the game. Even his M ver. H Vers was like 24F which was like the same for even the L command grab of other character. His Air command grab was if not one of the best AA grab if Tiger Kneed. Once Limit Break involved, all bets are off. Not to mention armor on Frame 4 for his special Move was the cherry on top. He got every traits of a grappler. The problem was that they gave him a GUN. This is like ZZ Gundam in Gundam vs Gundam Next Plus. Shitton of projectiles AND the only character who got command grabs instead of Melee attack. That game happened to be develop by Capcom BTW.
My favorite grappler is one that intimidates my opponent into making errors I can capitalize on. It's a mind game to see who can keep their cool. It really gets fun when you start to see panic moves or movement. That's the gotcha moment.
Big Band isn't a grappler, he actually has movement options (look at brass knuckles, his supers and pretty decent dash) and does not rely on grabs or command grabs nearly as much as your average grappler.
*"I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 **-kicks-** grapples once, but I fear the man who has practiced one **-kick-** grapple 10,000 times."* -Bruce Lee.
I remember the first time I saw someone using Zangief in Street Fighter 2 who actually knew what he was doing. He was destroying everyone. That's when I decided, I'm gonna learn how to do that. And I did. Grabbing people out of their attacks from a full character length away will never not be hilarious.
Its really funny listening to your description of how grapplers function "all these downsides but one mistake and they start winning massively" and realize, wait that's hakumen.
Jokes aside this is a great video. Glad u also think tiger is super duper cool. Too bad character design fucks him over so bad that he has near unwinnable matchups against so many high tier charas.
Its why I like Alex and Abel in SF. They are technically grapplers, but they do some things that help them differentiate against someone like Hugo or Gief, Especially Abel.
Playing Strive Pot is not a privilege when everyone picks Sol(overbuffed), Gio(+two million on all actions), and May (little bit of Sol, Gio and huge frame advantage hit boxes). It sucks, but for every 500000 Tierwhores, there's a Chipp waiting to be grabbed
Grappler players tend to be honers, men who work hard at one simple concept until it's extremely efficient. They can also be very quiet and reserved, fairly patient, and then flip the script entirely the moment they land their SPD and start screaming.
@@MrWiseWalrus Yeah fighterz definitely does mix up the old try and true formula of archertypes with its gameplay, but to out right say you can’t classify character by archer type is kind of ridiculous but I respect your opinion. On that same notion Broly would be a monster in any other fighting game.
I ended up picking up Tager a week ago, was a mediocte Naoto player, and now I'm the resident bully with magnetism It's actually dumb how fun the character is
Its fun when people are so scared of getting grabbed that they would rather eat 40 or 50 percent trying to upback when I haven’t even grabbed the entire match
It's nice to see more people making videos about fighting games. I think grapplers are a neat archetype even if I don't play them much, but I often do play characters with command throws that complement their offence. You should try KoF or other SNK games if you want to taste a new flavour of grappler, since they often have instant or armoured command throws paired with extremely good movement/system mechanics. The only thing that your video really lacks is a strong thesis point: you clearly talk about grapplers and things you think are neat about them, but the script is pretty unfocused. When you say Iron Tager is "the best grappler," do you mean he's the strongest, or the most interesting, or that you feel the most satisfied when you win with him, or what? I'm not sure what I'm supposed to be taking in as the viewer. Hope to see more videos from you. 6:08 It sounded like you were saying the FRC window was 1f, which is a common misconception. I had to listen to your narration a couple times to realize you were saying the throw itself was 1f (although they're more like 0f since they can beat normals that would hit on the same frame).

Grapplers: That's our relationship with most Zoners and a few rushdowns.
This man got conditioned so hard, he made a video. Them grapplers hit diff.
Fighterz Broly would like to have a word with Tager
Indeed he does
He'd still get bodied tbh...
This man straight up sound like a Ken/Chun losing to a Hugo/Zangief, or a Rob/ZSS losing to Ganondorf/Incineroar.
This guy got pot bustered a lot.
Dude has all the same weaknesses but his strengths were tuned up to 11 with stuff like 6K 2H, unblockable loops near the corner, Potemkin Buster FRC, and Heat Knuckle having massive meter gain (meter gain was shifted to Heat Extend in +R)
@@MrWiseWalrus Z Broly though....It's an exception. He got the same basic UNIVERSAL movement AND being the best Zoner in the game.....Weird.
“Iron Tager is the best designed grappler of all time” Damn what a weird way to spell General Raam/Thunder from KI 2013
Tager is a pretty cool guy
Iron Tager and Cerabella made me fall in love with grapplers.
The difference is Hakumen controls the neutral.
Jokes aside this is a great video. Glad u also think tiger is super duper cool. Too bad character design fucks him over so bad that he has near unwinnable matchups against so many high tier charas.
this is actually called "winning"
Its why I like Alex and Abel in SF. They are technically grapplers, but they do some things that help them differentiate against someone like Hugo or Gief, Especially Abel.
diavolo being s tier in asb proves grapplers are superior
Tager gives me the fun duality of toughing out the opponent's pressure with blocking, and that any move I hit them with is sure to hurt.
If big band is a grappler than marvel 2 sentinel is a grappler
Gadget finger resets are some of the spiciest looking frame traps and crossups I've ever seen in a fighting game.
Big Band litterally doesn't have a command grab. By definition he isn't a grappler.
If this video didn't have Hugo on it, the title would be "The Aksys Grappler Privilege"
Landing 3 spds in a row is just crack to my tiny grappler brain. Nothing causes more mental damage in fighting games.
Grapplers dont wanna win the game. They wanna win the hearts of people watching them
As a Naoto main every time I fight a tiger I fear for my life cause if I fuck up EVEN ONCE it's death
I don't really play fighting games, or really follow them.
But sounds you got read like a book, zoner.
Grappler players tend to be honers, men who work hard at one simple concept until it's extremely efficient. They can also be very quiet and reserved, fairly patient, and then flip the script entirely the moment they land their SPD and start screaming.
Can't believe no one talking bout injustice Grundy
'Best designed grappler of all time'
King: And I took it personally
king really isnt a grappler like that, as surprising as it sounds
So we just going to forget the monster grapplers that are both Broly’s from Dragonball Fighterz
Imo dbfz is too combo centric to classify characters by archetype.
I love how most Grappler players live rent free in peoples heads lmao
beowulf player here: im glad to be amongst my filthy brethren 😈🤝🏾
Please make more of these when you have the chance. This was bloody brilliant.
In the process of recording as we speak. Thank you for the encouragement.
@@MrWiseWalrus Ayyy~
I ended up picking up Tager a week ago, was a mediocte Naoto player, and now I'm the resident bully with magnetism
It's actually dumb how fun the character is
As a rushdowner in BlazBlue CF with Makoto..
Tagers scare me. Grapplers terrify me. Keep doing you grapplers.
8:53 oh boi, i burst my drink. nice one
i thought i just accidentally clicked into another random fighting game clip but its a whole ass video, thanks ill eat dinner to it
core-a gaming imitation lmfao
That whole intro gameplay was hilarious! Look at his feet dangling mid suplex 😂
imagine losing to a low tier, then procced to bully the players for playing a "busted character". That's a skill issue as far as anyone knows.
Certain thrill in just seeing the damage add up. It's really funny to see people complain with their top 5 characters
There is nothing more satisfying than watching someone do something stupid and punishing it by picking them up and slamming them down
Such a fantastic Video, keep this kind of content up and you will skyrocket! :)) Love the Video man!
Its fun when people are so scared of getting grabbed that they would rather eat 40 or 50 percent trying to upback when I haven’t even grabbed the entire match
Tager might not be amazing in Central Fiction, but he's crazy in Chrono Phantasma Extended

It sounded like you were saying the FRC window was 1f, which is a common misconception. I had to listen to your narration a couple times to realize you were saying the throw itself was 1f (although they're more like 0f since they can beat normals that would hit on the same frame).
Hey, I appreciate all the feedback. This is the first time I've made a theory/editorial vid related to fighting games, so the constructive criticism really helps. I'll take what you said into consideration when writing my next one, thanks!
Hell yeah love the big body grappler characters especially iron tager and I love when my opponents get pissed off because they go against me & my boy
Marduk in T7, S-Tier grappler who's tall and big but has a high tier sidestep despite being the size of a fridge
@@ehehehehehe9661 lol I do love that small Invincible frame when he back dash sadly I don't utilize it as much as I should it'll probably get me out of a lot of tight jams
Eh, everything is better then zoning.
Do you know about Z broly?
I play Reinhardt in overwatch, Heavy in tf2, Hulk in marvel games, taurens back when I played wow, and I even love the leper in darkest dungeon.
I just like tank characters, and grapplers are fighting game tanks.
Now there needs to be a video with BAD grapplers.
...which sadly also includes Iron Tager
Go look at how fuckin busted Solomon Grundy was on injustice 1, easily one of the strongest grapplers
Virtua fighter has the coolest and most balanced grapplers
this great dude! i love seeing channels get big views! this is quality content
Thank you so much
Dude every time I see Blazblue I just think: "Man I miss playing Tager"
I dunno why but grapplers have always been some of my favorite fighting game characters. There’s just something so satisfying when I watch one of them slam an opponent into the ground.
To answer your question as to why people play grapplers, in my case: I enjoy being large
In almost any game of most any kind I enjoy the slow, heavy, and powerful, it's just a shame that most fighting games do not favor that kind of character and playstyle
