  • Hi all,
    I picked up a set of terrain towing mirrors for the pajero.
    I figured I'd give you a look at them for the purpose of review and to show you what is required to fit them to the pajero.
    You can find these mirrors here on ebay
    ebay.us/nDMzfN
    or direct from the outback equipment here
    www.outbackequ...
    Prices seem to be the same, so go with whichever gives the cheapest postage.

    After watching your video I finely got off my ass and fitted a set of clear view mirrors (second hand ones) on the old NT Pajero, I used a ring open end combo spanner, took around 40 min. Did you get around to fitting nylock nut or stayed with the ones supplyed?

    Ratchet spanners are a great investment. Used my first one while helping my mechanic and since went and brought myself a cheap set. Planning for a better set soon. I love how Mits make it easy to upgrade. My NM GLX doesnt come with fog lights in the front but when I got the NP bullbar I had them. A fuse and a switch and I was set, all the wires were there ready to plug in.

      I had a cheaper set that I got years ago and they've been so handy. I kept telling myself if get a 'nice' set one day but they just kept working. Then the fan belt job change up and I needed the wobbly head thing, so I thought why not. I'm finally getting to a point where I have most of the tools I need. It's a nice feeling

    • @MicksGarageDarts

      @@DENMONKEY Im with you mate, Its good to have a nice set of tools you can rely on. My plan is to replace the tools I keep in my car so the cheaper/older sets will go in the car and the good stuff will go in the garage. Ive recently just brought a Stanley tool chest with top box from Bunnings (About $360 for the lot) so finally got somewhere to store them all properly. Im pretty sure Ive got every tool I need for the car but better quality gear would be nice. When the timing let go in Lithgow I found I could of repaired it on the track with the tools I had except I didnt have a 1/2inch socket wrench or a 7/8 socket to turn the crank shaft. Everything else I had.

    I use Milenco mirrors and are excellant.
    The thing with Clearview a hell of a lot of R&D goes into those mirrors and are a better quality.

    I've got a set of clearviews on my NM. Black with indicators. Scored them 2nd hand for $400. No wiring for indicators in the NM. So I wired them in..
    My next issue was they hung out far and it looked like Dumbo coming down the road. So I cut mine down. Took 90mm out of them. Doesnt have the huge extend now, but does pull out 35mm rather than the 100mm. Now fits better in carparks.
    Happy to share the how to with anyone interested

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey matt, they sure do stick out like dogs........ I hadn't thought of cutting them down, but might keep that in mind depending on how they go off road.
      I reckon I'm going to collect one for sure. That's where the standard one went. So these are bound to take a hit. If my indicators didn't work, I would have wired them up since they were there. Glad they did. Where did you pick up the wire from to run it up to them ?

    • @EvolveAuto
      @EvolveAuto 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DENMONKEY in both drivers and passengers footwell the looms run. I pulled my side repeater off and then followed the colour. Obviously one is earth.
      I got sick of belting them in on narrow 4wd tracks and having to pull them in just to fit into my carport. So trimmed them up.
      All up. About 30minutes a side to trim them, can be left on the car too. More than happy to talk you through it if you decide to go that way.

      yeah I don't think there is much difference between them all to be honest. Mine have got a little rust on a screw in behind the glass. you can see it in the gap. Let me know if you see the same on yours. its no biggie just odd.

    Ive had these on my pajero for around 8 months, they are great. Just be careful of blindspots when going trough roundabouts or turning, they block some vision in front side that i nearly took out a couple cars when i first put them on. Positives they are huge and work great for towing. Negatives is driving around city they stick out alot but nothing major and then the little bit of blindspot they add that you get used to. I find myself using the bottom mirror more than the big top one , not sure why but i prefer the zoomed out to see more look.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Franciois, I took a run down to the shops this morning and have noticed exactly that when going through a round about. I had to lean to see around them. Something I will have to be very careful of. I definitely felt like I needed to be very careful when pulling into the car park. Like you said, I'll just need to get use to them. Haven't quite got them set up how I like yet , still adjusting them. But you're right, the view from them is bloody brilliant and I also like the lower mirrors, although I've always tilted my normal mirrors down so I can see the road/gutters when parking etc, so these just make sense. Thanks for sharing the experience

      Mate, I had those clip on ones with the rubber straps before and they used to cause the original mirrors to fold it etc and were slowly breaking them. I'm yet to have one of these fold in like that. They take a real good push to get them to fold in even when you want them to. The only thing I would caution after having them for a while is if you do a bit of off road driving, I've nearly taken them off a few times now on trees and the like. It will happen sooner or later. They just stick out a lot😁 but for vanning etc , bloody brilliant

    These ones look pretty good and you make the install look straightforward. I have had Clearviews on my 2013 GLS and can recommend them over any of the detachables I have tried no problems with road trans blowing them back up North and don't just decide to give up the ghost and head roadwardsl when yo least want it. Will definitely look at this alternative brand if I need to replace mine at any time.

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks David, yes the process is really quite easy. Better than expected actually. I like you hate the add on options and also had the issue of them folding over when traveling. I think that had an impact on the mirrors as the drivers side started to fold down in strong wind even without the tow mirrors on. I wasnt impressed. These should be a nice change. not sure whether I got Clearviews or the tough terrain ones, but on corrugated roads when the mirrors are in the default position they'll eventually bump themselves out to the extended position. Also be careful when reversing and knocking the mirrors forward, there's a point of no return if they go further than what they're designed :D

    • @DENMONKEY
      @DENMONKEY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks for the heads up. these will certainly spend a good amount of time off road, so I'll keep an eye on them. Looking at the mechanism, I'm wondering if drilling a small hole that a pin of some sort could be dropped in might stop them doing that. Might compromise the strength though.
