    I've been beating the crap out of my exway gear drive. The thing is pretty robust. Noise isn't that bad either...I did a comparison between a belt, direct and gear drive on my channel. It is a beast!

    Pretty stoked you picked one of my questions! Thanks for the info, pretty stoked there's some innovation going on here in the community. Really interested in trying a geared drive board one day.

    Putting cruiser gear drives on my Propel Pivot and Tynee Stinger has given them so much more pop and torque. Love the range boost I got out of my stinger too

    Finally a review on the gear drive system! I definitely need this! I’ve gone through so many belts riding off-road, maybe 6 or so this past season alone. Paired with 4 wheel drive this thing is no doubt going to be a beast to ride on the trails especially with the aux pack. My only complaint is that the exway site only lets you get it in 2 wheel drive For roughly $2,400 which would mean you would have to buy the front wheel drive system separately for another $700 so that means it would be $ 3,100 for your set up and $4,200 with the aux pack….. you could buy 2 or 3 electric boards for that price so it’s kind of ridiculous (unless I’m wrong about the prices) I’ve also done cnc machining and the gear drive gears and housing are not remotely that much to manufacture….. not sure why exway thinks anyone would pay that much for gear drive when the market for it is already so small…..

    I have gear drive on my Tynee mini 3 pro and my Tynee Explorer and I love it. Its stainless steel helical geardrive. Its almost as a regular skateboard to push. Way less resistance then with belts. Maintenance is almost non existing. Just put some moore greas in about 2 times a year or when it starts to sound moore. It takes about 5 min on each gear to grease it. So for me I can never go back to belts again. But if you have to choose then its moore important on the board you ride offroad with like my Explorer. There is some cheaper geardrives with plastic gears avoid those. Thats my input on geardrives. You will not regret to putting on geardrives.

    so TL:DR: it's great if you need a sealed drive train system, but for more casual use, a belt is still preferable.
    I think for mountain boards and heavy duty boards (like the Propel Endeavor series) a gear drive would be great. it's not like people wanna swap gear ratio's to go 70 km/h on those boards anyway. but for street boards like a Hurricane or a Zeus, I'd stick with Belts.
    btw, to answer to your difficulties of cleaning grip tape: I reccomend a cheap dishwashing brush, then putting the board on its side and pouring a bit of water on the grip tape. then scrubbing. then more water. then scrubbing. and rinse and repeat. then pad it with a towel and leave it upside down on said towel to dry. my griptape looks like new on my Eovan thanks to it and I've literally taken it over beaches and through storms. most boards are waterproof enough (from the top) that you can put water on the top of the deck, provided you clean it off immediately and put it on its side.

      Yes with my Endeavor, I have to stop regularly and remove the back wheels in order to get rid of the gravel. A gear drive would be better for sure.

    White Lithium grease is best for Gear drives. But for me you don't need gear drive for all terrain Boards. For hard Offroad is a gear drive the best option. I have no problems with my E-toxx drives since 4 years 🤙

    my belt broke after 1000km, and i drive daily but mostly in the city. Works gear, the wheels however went flat multiple times, i ended up buying the smallest tube i could find locally and folding it inside the wheel to fit, works fine, no way im paying 400$ for some wheels lol.

    Red 'n' Tacky or White Lithium grease is best, unless the drive is perfectly sealed in which case synthetic gear oil is best.

    Why not enclose the belt on a normal belt drivetrain? I am thinking of designing my own and 3d printing it for my board, but I can imagine it breaking easily, so a metal enclosure would be perfect in my opinion. What do you guys think??

  • @daftrider67

    Considering the rapid draining of the battery in 4WD with standard belt drive. With the Gear Drive the range is greatly reduced. Doesn't make sense to have it.

    In France, you not even allowed to river over 25 km/h so...
    Also, is it more waterproof?

    • @MrAndreFerRed
      @MrAndreFerRed ปีที่แล้ว

      Given that the main issue with the waterproofing is the electronics, it probably no/little effect unless it covers so holes/gaps by coincidence. Also skateboard bearings and water don’t tend to mix well anyways. That being said; Guessing the real question should be: does it have drain holes (similarly to bike frames) to allow water to flow out if it gets inside?
      As for france’s laws; you can always ride on private roads/in areas where you wont be stopped (ie; not in the middle of the city). I am mega jealous of the french laws regarding eSk8s; across the boarder here in Italy they have a limit on the motor power (500W) & top speed (also 25kph) so any decent board is illegal. Fortunately noone actually stops you (or at least noone has stopped me so far 😅… knock on wood)

    Having only ever had hub-motor boards. Should my next bboard be hub-motor, belt drive or even gear drive? I'm on the fence about belt drive mainly due to the additional risk of a full-stop malfunction - had quite a few bad ones of those from my first hub motor board (one of the first versions of Koowheel with ESC connection issues).

    • @davidheath2427
      @davidheath2427 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have two belt drives and never had a belt break in three years. You have to buy right is my opinion. Depending on your budget exway tynee wowgo . Don't buy of Amazon ect.

    • @aevumlux3323
      @aevumlux3323 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have driven belt driven boards for 5 years as a daily commuter and have never had a full stop malfunction. I've had several belts break over the years while riding and the biggest risk is lower breaking power. You can definitely tell when it breaks so it's not a surprise when you go to break.

    If there is no difference in ride performance and quality overall, whats the point of paying 659$ for the gear drive? Even if it was coming preinstalled with atlas pro for the same price there would be little to no reason to buy it because the top speed is significantly lower while not giving more torque in exchange.

    • @milikdavis9700
      @milikdavis9700 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely not worth paying over $3,000 for it! I personally would benefit from it because I go through belts often and the gear drive gives you more torque and realizability off-roading and the speed drops down to just over 30mph which is still VERY fast but anyways it definitely has good selling points but WAY overpriced

That being said, I’ve never actually ridden one of their boards…yet. And my only riding experience is with my Boosted Stealth. However if I were to invest in a second board it would be between Hoyt St’s EL2 and Evolve’s Hadean Carbon.
