  • We have quickly grown tired of dealing with messy eggs, chickens randomly cracking into them, restocking straw, and having to do such heavy washing in order to sale. So we've decided to build our own adjustable rollaway nesting boxes to solve those issues!
    Below is a list of affiliate links of some of the tools used in this build out!

    Nice job. Nice to see you use leftover material. Not everyone can swing all new material, plus it's great to repurpose materials just to save in waste.

      Thanks! Definitely try to use any scrap we have laying around. Starting a farm or homestead from scratch is expensive.😅

    Easy diy, functional and very practical. Thank you for another great video share.
    Im going to use this in the nesting boxes I'll be building tomorrow.
    I just built a 5' Dx10'Wx7'H chicken coop. Im putting the nesting boxes on the outside like your mobile coop.
    I really like how simple you made this ❤
    Keep up the great videos kids❤❤❤

      Yeah I looked into buying something and quickly went the route of building my own. The store bought are nice but way to expensive for us! Thanks for watching Paula!

    Cool video, and I love the rolling egg catchers! That is always how it seems to go because I always start something, and life pulls me in several different ways, LOL. By the way, I have subscribed to your channel, and Lisa and I are looking forward to watching more of your videos! Until next time, may God bless your days the way He always blesses ours! Donald

    Great video. Take some of that vinyl and attach a flap over the hinge side; it probably leaks. I came to your channel because the link didn't work. Enjoy your adventures

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      We haven’t had any issue with leaking because the roof overhangs with a gutter above. But since the I was trying to save on material and put the metal on horizontal, instead of the correct direction for run off, there is an occasional puddling that will pour in when you open the lid. It’s not too much though just a few drips.

      @@easyworkacres it's a nifty little chicken tractor you have. Glad it doesn't leak. Conservation of materials is a beautiful thing. Have a great day and enjoy your adventures

    Do you use hay in the nesting boxes or do your hens lay directly on the hardware cloth ??

    How would this work for the winter? Seems the eggs would freeze?

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      My plan is to put haybales around the base of coop to block wind drafts through the main floor since the coop floor is 1x2 wire mesh. And I will cap the back end mesh on the nesting boxes off with a sheet plywood from the bottom so the eggs are still rolling on the metal but blocked from the cold. But either way it’s mainly just important to stay on top of collecting eggs when it’s really hot in the summer and cold in the winter.

  • @tiptopgirl4124
    @tiptopgirl4124 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Came back and studied this again. Am wondering what state you’re in and since the hardware cloth leaves the hens exposed to the weather, do you use this coop in winter? Hope that made sense.

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We housed them in a greenhouse before during the winter. But this winter we plan to stack hay bales around the base of the tractor to hold in heat and block out wind while still allowing droppings to fall through. We will just plan to move the coop less frequent during the winter months.

      Alrighty. Thank you. Was wondering how much snow/freezing temps you get there. I’m in the final stages of completing my coop, the nesting boxes being last, and I have been sitting in there for hours, staring at that wall lol, trying to figure out just how to build them.
      Appreciate you sharing your knowledge with us.
