    When I Declutter, I take a picture of the room - that gives me a little bit of distance from the objects - that allows my eye to see things that I have clutter blind to and I “see” it more.

      I do exactly that! Sometimes I surprise myself and think ‘ gosh it looks really good, I’m not changing anything’ but more often than not I can see what needs to go or be moved elsewhere!

      Yes a photo can be eye opening. Sometimes I’ve taken a photo of one of my pets and then notice a cluttered situation in the background. Photos definitely help to see “things” more clearly.

    I recently deep cleaned my house over the last 2 days and one thing I did which helped me was to remove all the knick knacks of the room leaving the base items in the room/space and just start fresh. As you place items you want to keep one by one and you can start to visually see what you care about and what items caused clutter. Additionally you can decide if items needs to go or simply does there need to be a storage solution/ needs to be in a better place that is more efficient. The storage solutions doesn’t necessarily require buying an item but instead repurposing something. But sometimes buying storage solutions can be really helpful and it doesn’t need to cost an arm and a leg. I’ve realized that not only does decluttering matter but keeping everything clean and the functional design of my home is a bigger component than I initially realized. You can’t really have a clean looking home if your storage along with the amount of items that you have aren’t catering to your lifestyle and what you need.

      This is a good idea. I did something similar a few weeks back when deep cleaning. On surfaces or floating shelves that have items (plants, frames, knick knacks) I use the three item design style and vary the levels of the items. This has a more aesthetic appeal to the area and definitely keeps it from looking busy and/or cluttered.

      I like reusing a cardboard box for a while until I decide I really need a plastic storage box. Most of the time, I can repurpose as I declutter.

    I have been to apartments that were very cluttered where you can't really walk a straight line anywhere and I thought how do they not see what an intolerable mess this is? "Clutter blind" is the expression I was looking for.

    I share a house so some of the common areas I can't completely control. My bedroom, home office and bathroom are minimal and serene so those are the spaces I spend the most time in.

    I notice the clutter & sadly try not to on purpose due to living with so many people with almost no control over any space aside from my own bedroom.
    It weighs on my anxiety.

    • @ElinLesser
      @ElinLesser  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That sounds frustrating! It's hard when you share a space and you can't have much control. Feel for you! Maybe focus on the space you do have control over? Just a thought, but that sounds difficult

    So good. My “spring cleaning” is usually more of a “quarterly de-clutter” because I can become clutter blind quickly. But I’m curious how folks with pets declutter and tidy up regularly. Do you have a dedicated spot for your dog toys/beds/chews/etc.? How does your home look so fresh and tidy with a dog? 😅
