When I was asking those questions, I hadn’t fully understood the dream character. Consciousness experiences the world through the dream character, not directly. The only experience I have directly is knowingly being aware. This is the only real experience we have ever had. The rest are conditioned stories of the mind and perception. In fact, there is no mind, and consciousness is simply aware of itself! This is the end of ignorance and the illusion of a separate self ❤
An outstanding explanation by Rupert. There is no such thing as a decision. Stuff happens and the mind claims credit for it a split second after it happens by superimposing the concepts of I and choice. The itch gets scratched and very quickly the mind claims 'I chose to scratch that itch'. The illusion of choice is not so very hard to create. Consider a video game, it appears the characters in it are making choices. They aren't. Electricity does not choose the path of least resistance. No electron has ever chosen to jump to a different shell. "Decision" is only a superimposition of the mind; in truth, all change is just a happening, no decider can be found because no decider exists.
I've tripped out on this for so long. Cause like even just the idea of choosing to turn your attention away from the content of experience implies a separate self choosing to turn away, yet in the act of turning away we realized there is no separate self in the first place. It's a paradox and I appreciate him saying it's unanswerable
On listening is like ...searching for the thing called mind...and it is not... Got shocked... Ruperts explanation are always so Direct and like a spark... Thankyou for the question also...it helped a lot ...
I get it. The question is a statement in the form of a question. It states, there is a separate decision maker... Answering it only makes that SEEM true.
I once saw through my eyes but it was not me, it was awareness aware of itself. Then I saw a thought appearing from nothing just like when we look at the sky and see a shooting star crossing the sky. As soon as I made the thought mine awareness vanished and I was back in shock of what I had just experienced. I felt as if for the first time I had open the curtains and saw the world how it really is. There is not separation just only one awareness experiencing different perspectives in a dream.
If you look the finite mind as a function of conciousness, then you can see that the mind is not working at the present moment, but instead, it's recognizing what is already past by definition. In that sense you could say that what is apparently your decision, is just a function of the mind that fullfills the present with the "i" sense. Infinite present is created out from nothing, and the mind is recognizing unconsciously what already is. A few miliseconds later, that function tells you that you where chosing what indeed already exists. There are no wrong desitions.
I wonder if what we perceive as ‘choice’, then, is a consequence of how and to what focus is attuned, or what our awareness is aligned to? Reminds me of Jung’s quote, ‘you don’t have ideas, ideas have you…’
the modulation of the awareness looked through a small window by itself, where it is both the camera and the display is a thought of an individual. a combined thought would be a single thought where it's a joint of eating icecream + drinking coffee filtered by 2 mobile screen, 1 person is eating icecream thought, other person is drinking coffee thought. Extrapolate that.... all possible thoughts happening at once, only split by the screen into multiple sane thought to an individual.
Thank you! If the brain needs to additional oxygen it induces me to decide go out from the room. The same refer to human's every activity. Our freedom and decisions is the result of necessity.
To quote Sri Ramana Maharishi, ' A Parameswara Sakthi ' sets the events rolling on. He meant, I believe, a software kind of net allows events to happen where all constituents participate the coming into fruition of the next event goaded by the focusing light of Consciousness which is by itself non-participatory! He never mentioned a deciding God in person!
Who are we? How can we define what we call the self, that which truly exists beneath the false social construct. To me, there are three main aspects to our existence: 1. Existence itself 2. Consciousness 3. Heart (Soul) the guiding force of the divine within. The heart represents the centre or the core of our being, which connects us to our origin ( the divine mother ). The heart is the source where divine love eminates, and it is where the breath of life resides within our being, it is also where the self resides. It is also where the presence of the divine resides and its presence is simply divine bliss.
I would say....live as if one has freewill and respond as if one doesn't. Thus action is based on what's best in the moment and response is based on whatever the outcome has brought forth.
Decisions 🤔… Egotistically, the root impetus underlying all ‘choices’ is mostly a reflexive response to either desire or fear 👀! Which ever ‘choice’ is made leads to dramatically different ‘life’ experiences 😮 When I ask ‘source’, “What would love do NOW?” THIS choice moves life in yet another different direction 🤔 Lucid mindfulness as opposed to a reflexive reaction ‘appears’ as free will…. Finite or Infinite consciousness? 👀?
Consciousness never forgets Itself, EVER! No one makes decisions, because there is no separate self there. There are no finite objects. There is only Pure Consciousness, (not the words) the alive “stuff,” that is present fact. There is only this one Now, and It has no history, no even of being Now before. What-Is, or Now, is ever present, ever new, but has nothing to do with time or timelessness. One cannot start with what appears as the human picture with the aim of arriving at the Infinite Itself. Rupert, there are no separate minds at all. To the Infinite, there is only Itself, the Infinite.
Only God exists, there is no personal self to make choices, but we believe there is..Ego, and for good or bad it makes choices, God who is pure Love wouldn't cause suffering but has made the laws of the Universe that may cause it if used wrongly, like a knife made from metal ore that formed in the ground, use it to cut a slice of bread or use it to kill. P.S.God love tea, PG tips that is, in UK .but let the bag stew for a bit..not too much milk.. and A FLAT half a teaspoon of demerara sugar, the perfect choice....thanks....
The entire consciousness paradigm of infinite/finite is a concept that is not provable. That's why there is no answer. So my question is: what does one expect to gain from knowing which or who makes decisions?
It's hilarious how these intellectuals describe the mechanics of this so called awakening, when even a halfwit knows the description is and can never be the described, probably people listening get a lift out of it, think they are getting deep into the awakening journey only to find out the lift or this hit quickly fades and the old self reasserts itself. This podcast as many others are just intellectual gymnastics. Talking "never does it" silence is who we are, and the gateway...so to speak...yes more words...silence..silence..
These two jokers are talking as if consciousness is an object and its own entity. And they saying without explaining how the object of consciousness derived, except for saying it's infinite and even not explaining how consciousness is an infinite of it's own Being. Thats like saying consciousness was Born first before the intelligent specie physical body and brain was Born. They dont even realise that the whole Universe Formed at random, and random means " DONE WITHOUT CONSCIOUS DECISION". Hello! What these jokers are saying is Consciousness Being appeared before the whole the Universe. Now we all know that consciousness requires a Form faculty to be a part of and the Universe does not require consciousness because the universe is random which means the Universe does not require to be aware nor survive nor evolve therefore the Universe does not require to even implement consciousness as a recall tool for a previous experience thats been stored to be recalled so as to give it some thought at a later date for a resolution. The Universe does not need to do all that. Going by all that, what these jokers are really saying is that consciousness Being was there before the Big Bang. What they think is that when the Big Bang sparked and a big, let's say explosion happened, they think that the elements that fused which caused the spark was the work of consciousness. That is basically what they are saying and that is because they dont have a clue how the formulae of elements react and create a random reaction. And therefore they just offer more confusion and more questions with no end result, hence the heading " Does Consciousness Make Decisions?" which is just a made up heading for content an resolves nothing. It shouldn't even be a question. But I have answered the question.
Ruperts explanation has been demonstrated scientifically. Decades ago experiments showed that, when a testperson is asked to press a button to turn a lamp on and off, when deciding themselves to do so, surprisingly, the nerve/muscle activity started milliseconds before the brain activity in the decission center of the brain, every time. The decision comes from the finite mind being free as consciousness, the one, has given It to all of us, so She can have a reflection of herself.

This is interesting. I've had lots of OBE'S, and saw everything from outside my body, but I never really looked at my body from outside. Hmmmm.
I think it's consciousness who decides through our body mind organism
Our mind takes decision about our past experiences and information which we collect from the society and knowledge which he gathered...

If you are an illusion, then how can you know realilty? Tell me, how can an illusion distinguish what is real from what is unreal?
Does the mind knows the difference between what is real and what is unreal? Nope, there your answer.
@catalinul1461 It's not an answer to whether or not you are an illusion or not. Know yourself, and you'll know the answer.
Consciousness is the one thing that cannot be an illusion. “The self” is another matter.
